I hope you don't delete this. Anyways the study is talking about low carbohydrate diets with HIGH protein intake, right? Ketogenic diets are supposed to be moderate intake of protein. Not supposed to be taking in a lot of protein and many people do a more Atkins kind of diet thinking it's ketogenic but yeah...

    • @MikeEnRegalia
      @MikeEnRegalia 6 років тому +47

A relative risk increase of 30% is meaningless in that type of study. Mortality was 5.9%, that means that meat eaters had only 2% increased absolute risk. That's nothing, considering that since it is an observational study, there are bound to be counfounding factors which weren't accounted for.

Reversed mother’s Stage 4 colon cancer in raw vegan protocol within 2 months. However, was able to take father off of five medications including reversing his gout, no more statins, reduced cholesterol, blood pressure, frequent nightly urinations and got his short term memory back. All this within five weeks. Dad is almost eighty. Had put him on a balanced ketogenic eating plan: organ meats, fermented veggies, leafy greens, sardines, grassfed red meat, pasture-raised eggs, raw dairy, coconut oil and vegetables. What I think you fail to realize is that when it comes to eating healthy, the burden of proof is not as high as it is with introducing a new drug (with all of its risks and side effects) into the marketplace. Thousands of people have turned their health around by eating a whole food, plant-based diet. The side effects include (at the very least) better glucose control, excess weight loss, improved serum cholesterol, and dramatically reduced chronic disease rates (diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular). It is a diet with only upsides for people, and for the planet. We don't need to wait for the definitive study to act on climate change, or on diabetes, or on cardiovascular illness. We can act today on all of these fronts by choosing to eat healthier with a diet rich in whole plant foods. This isn't rocket science. You will be dead before the study you are waiting for to come out, and whose loss will this be?

And coffee. No one will EVER be able to convince me that this "food" is healthy. What I have found taking care of people, mainly the elderly for like 40 plus years. They eat lots of carbs like desserts, tons of meat and more meat than anything else. Meat of some sort is normally the first thing they think of when they think of food. It is the FIRST thing they put on their plate. They then go for the carbs....rice, pasta.. with tons of sauce. And then I cannot help but notice, very little or NO veges. Many of the elderly eat NO salad of any kind due to chewing and/or swallowing problems. Many have no teeth or very little teeth. And then... they all love their desserts and it is NOT fruit. Lots of processed desserts with tons of sugar.

Physicians need to turn into coaches first and drug peddlers second.

20:58 Impossible Burger does have heme iron in it (part of leghemoglobin), that's why "it looks like a bloody chunk of hamburger" [20:00] and tastes similar to meat:
_"Full Ingredient List: Water, Textured Wheat Protein, Coconut Oil, Potato Protein, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Leghemoglobin (Soy), Yeast Extract, Salt, Konjac Gum, Xanthan Gum, Soy Protein Isolate, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Thiamin (Vitamin B1), Zinc, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12_
_WHAT IS THE "LEGHEMOGLOBIN (SOY)" INGREDIENT?_
_Heme is an iron-containing molecule that occurs naturally in every single plant and animal. It’s an essential molecular building block of life. Heme gives your blood its ability to carry oxygen. It’s found in all living organisms, and it's been consumed every day-heck, every second-for hundreds of thousands of years._
_Heme is super abundant in animal muscle, and that's what makes a burger so flavorful. It's also why meat is a particularly good source of iron. The heme found in animal muscle is carried by a protein called myoglobin._
_Plants, particularly nitrogen-fixing plants and legumes, also have heme. The heme found in these plants is carried by leghemoglobin, which is closely related to myoglobin. Leghemoglobin in the soy plant is called soy leghemoglobin. The heme molecule in plant-based heme is atom-for-atom identical to the heme molecule found in meat. It’s what makes the Impossible Burger so rich and decadent._
_DO YOU PRODUCE HEME BY GENETIC MODIFICATION?_
_Yes. We genetically engineer yeast to make a key ingredient: heme. The process allows us to produce the Impossible Burger at scale with the lowest achievable environmental impact._
_We start with the gene for a protein called leghemoglobin, a heme protein that is naturally found in the root nodules of soy plants. Leghemoglobin is similar to myoglobin, the heme protein that is exceptionally abundant in animal muscles, binds oxygen and gives meat its unique flavor and aroma._
_We add the soy leghemoglobin gene to a yeast strain, and grow the yeast via fermentation. Then we isolate the leghemoglobin, or heme, from the yeast. We add heme to the Impossible Burger to give it the intense, meaty flavor, aroma and cooking properties of animal meat._
_By producing our heme in yeast, we avoid digging up soy plants to harvest the root nodules, which would promote erosion and release carbon stored in the soil. This enables us to produce heme sustainably at high volume and make plant-based meat for millions of people, offsetting the environmental impact of animal agriculture."_

Correct me if I'm wrong but vegans don't consume coconut oil which has been shown to reduce the effects or even reverse dementia, Parkinson's disease, MS etc. etc. Dr. Terry Wahls is is a good example of someone who cured her MS using a Paleo high fat diet. She has now developed a Wahls Paleo plus diet to help other people with MS. Also Montel Williams who was co-host of the docu-series "The Real Skinny on Fat" cured himself of MS using the Ketogenic Diet. I have not heard of any anecdotal evidence that a vegan diet cures brain disease like the above mentioned. I am sure that if it existed Vegans would be shouting that from the rooftops.

My A1C has remained normal and my hypertension is in normal range.
I'm an omnivore, just like my ancestors back to pre-history. I feel moderation and eating natural unprocessed foods as much as possible are the key to health. Exercise is equally helpful. We do not have any studies to say conclusively that vegan diets are better than any other. We live in such a polluted and stressful civilization, I can't even imagine the logistics of a statistically valid mortality study for diet. Dr. Williams kind of alludes to that fact.

Do you use oxidative polyunsaturated fats for cooking?”And countless other unhealthy habits. Without all of those variables you can’t tell people that eating a vegan diet would be healthy. what he says is very interesting and is said in a very intelligent way. What scared me about long term vegans is their common skin issue ( lack of elasticity, emaciated look, strong skin folds even in very young people). I think animal products are essential, but in a very small amount. A bit like Okinawans do.. It's the uncontrollable ridiculous excess that is a problem, especially in an industrialized and unethical way. And all the animal food that gets thrown away because there is not enough people to consume it...its a scandal. But we can't go to the other extreme and completely eliminate foods that are actually essential to us in small amounts...no human populations in the whole planet have ever been fully vegan for a reason. And every food - plant or animal- has pros and cons. Plants also carry a lot of toxic compounds. Nothing is so black and white. Moderation and balance is key ( and I am in no way talking about the standard American diet...)

If Keto caused 20-50% increase in death since the 1980s Atkins we would have obviously seen that and people wouldn't be doing.
Keto is NOT the opposite of a vegetarian/vegan diet. The cornerstone of the Keto diet is low to medium glycemic vegetables like Kale, Spinach, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, nuts, etc. Seriously, you try to characterize the diet as the Carnivore Diet just to make it so much easier to attack. it's disingenious.
Why has my blood pressure gone down on keto? Why have my Triglycerides gone down? Why do I have so much energy and mental clarity on the Keto+IF diet?
There have been increased attacks on Keto with no evidence to prove their extreme claims in recent months. Why are you so scared of other diets that you have to spend your time attacking it? Do you have to beat on a diet that is getting more attention just to get more attention?

As studied as this man sounds, he’s biased. Moreover, many of the results he cites are biased. There is nothing wrong with a ketogenic diet, provided the foundation of the diet consists of greens and cruciferous vegetables. The key to a healthy and successful result is the healthy fats and moderate protein intake. Further, cutting the sugar in the diet - ENTIRELY - is the MOST critical factor in eliminating heart disease. It’s not cholesterol. When the triglyceride level is compared to the HDL level, the ratio must be lower than 2.0 to ensure one can mitigate metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, show me a vegan who doesn’t supplement, and I’ll show you a person on the path to malnourishment and death on the installment plan.
Final point: Men like Dr. Williams, and others, do not look healthy and vibrant. Rather, they appear frail, gaunt, and lacking in vitality.

@@hadavisjr You are right about having healthy vegetables as your base, and avoiding sugar completely. Veggies and legumes provide abundant protein. Soy milk is fortified with B12. Avoid almost all medications, multi-vitamins and supplements, and limit alcohol as much as possible. I consume no animal products whatsoever. I get more than enough essential oils and fat from healthy nuts, legumes, and veggies. My health is great and my blood tests have never been better. As long as the Keto diet promotes the consumption of any kind of animal products it will always fall short of its promises in the long term. Animal products come with a cost, and that cost is in the form of a deadly disease such as; heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, Alzheimer’s and more.

@Dickgirl Nationalist Cutting carbs is helpful in those with type 2 diabetes as it is carbs that trigger insulin resistance. And it has been shown to be superior to a high carb diet in weight loss. When a Type 2 diabetic reduces carbs to 30-50 grams per day they start the ketosis part and start burning fat for fuel instead of carbs. This helps to burn off belly fat and control blood sugar. For the diabetic at least. That is the main benefit of the keto diet. But it seems it is very hard to do it and also do Vegan and still get the needed nutrients.

First off, so no one misunderstands, I'm vegan....Sorry, but one study will not change my mind about dairy, when he says that dairy does not cause cancer deaths at 8:58 - The same reasoning he gave for the eggs not affecting heart attacks at 9:20 because 'dead people don't have heart attacks', could be applied to dairy, only reversed, because when a person is consuming dairy they are no doubt consuming other animal products, even if it's just eggs such as with vegetarians (and he did say eggs were worse then processed meat at 9:04), which not only cause cancer deaths as he pointed out, but also the mortality rate for meat eaters after a significant heart attack is high, so it could be that the cancer from the other animal meat consumption or their heart gives out before anything else (dairy) can kill them, but that doesn't mean that the dairy wouldn't eventually. I have a hard time listening to any doctor that advocates statins and 'poly drugs', and has been filmed saying that statins and poly drugs are not just okay, but are good, and has been in a 'friendly' debate with other plantbased doctors over statins as seen in another video

Ketogenic diet ≠ paleo/carnivore/Atkins diet only. Leave carbs (sugar is vegan, btw) and CAD is resolved - not only with vegan diet. I would do vegan diet instead of SAD or paleo/carnivore/Atkins. But ketogenic diet is way to go (my form of keto is near pesco-vegetarian, anyways).
Egg is not increasing diabetes, if you are restricting carbs (LCHF/keto) and if you do not eat excessive amount of protein. Four eggs can be too much esp. in SAD.
After a month of keto my blood values were great and blood pressure excellent. Both in keto and vegan you have to take care of potassium/sodium balance.
Agreed: added sugars should be heavily taxed, if not banned.

i'll say it for the 1000th time: you don't need to eat animal products on keto. ketosis is a state of the body, it isn't a food or a group of foods. in order to say ketosis is bad, you must prove that ketones themselves increase mortality, not that chicken, eggs, or beef is bad. that is totally irrelevant to the subject matter.

I think what you're asking for here is that 'peoples' P.S.O.E is higher in general. I'm asking for that, too, but in a much wider scope.
In other words, it's not that 'people have a monopoly on it' -- the crux of this situation, and many others, is that so many people have similar associations surrounding certain words. This is largely by design, and that design is only effective when large numbers of people have a very low P.S.O.E.

Anybody ever wonder what the gall bladder is for? It's for storing and concentrating bile for the purposes of digesting fat. Why would we have an organ for storing and concentrating bile if we weren't meant to eat fat heavy meals? The liver can only produce a small amount, so there's the gallbladder doing the work to allow us to eat that huge fat meal. Herbivores have no gallbladder, so they weren't supposed to eat much fat... we were. Just like other species of omnivores and carnivores. Plants are great, I love them. But to assume this dogma of a veggie-only diet is denying our own species adaptation for survival. Eat your greens people, and follow it up with a grass-fed steak and a few macadamias.

Hmmm I have never felt so good on Keto. Now I was on a plant based diet. Ate extremely well. I grew my own food no sugar drank juices of wheat grass and kale. Now I did this for 25 years. But I felt week. However I was in the area of little or no fat. I was tired most of the time. Now I’m on Keto. However. I have very good fats. Very little grass fed meat and organic veggies lots of. I think if people are eating bacon eggs and nothing but meat it’s not a proper Keto Plus I’m 120 pounds 5 foot 3. I’m not fat. Did not do this for weight loss
