Great info regarding that fuse. I just bought one for my 2020 Lariat and it comes with the 30 amps fuse and after watching your video, I check the fuse box and its has the 30 amps already so I have spare.
Great video for my 2020 XLT, thank you! I actually found on my truck in the IPC configuration that trailer brake control module has trailer brake gain under it where yours does not. If i just enabled both of those It actually changes your next step of E401 to E441 automatically. My trailer brake controller was also powered unlike yours so perhaps could explain the difference. Either way your the man, thanks again.
This is awesome, I am about to swap in the full center console and have to take this apart anyways... whats another mod? What is the software you are using? I want to swap some electric seats in too.. do think I would have to change setting like that too? Very cool.
I have a weird issue. I bought an "OEM" controller off Ebay. Everything works now EXCEPT when I plug a trailer in, the trailer brakes are full "ON". to the point where the trailer axle is locked even without pressing the truck brakes. I have used two different trailers with the same result. And this is with the truck set to zero, and the gain set to zero. So, I'm down to replacing the controller, OR making some Forscan setting adjustment. Your info about changing the 0 to a 4 is pretty obscure information. Could you link me to where you discovered this odd bit of information? I would appreciate it very much. TIA
The forscan code change can be found on forscan spreadsheets. Just google them and you'll easily find the info out there. Do you have a 7 pin connection on your truck? I'd get a multimeter and measure the brake signal coming from the truck, seems like your getting voltage output when you shouldn't.
Hello, I have a question and I hope you can help me, I have the F-150 XL 2020 with the most basic display, I have completed all the steps, the IPC module appears exactly the same, (only one option to enable), also verify that you have the fuse and everything is in order, even the intensity controller works, but it does not appear on the screen when I increase or decrease the braking intensity, nothing appears but it does work, any suggestions? Do I have to activate something else to get the information on the screen?
Hey great info. I am now looking at a new 2020 F-150 XLT that is missing the brake controller. I would really like it to tow a trailer and be safe. So this install is no really big deal and can be accomplished at a reasonable price afterwards ? If so I'll get back with the dealer and talk, there are very few 2020's on the lots with the options. I could do the switch install but would need someone with a scan/programmer tool to talk to the truck computer.
When you programed the TBC, did it activate the 12 volt aux in the connector. For some reason we still have no voltage at the pin and need it to charge the trailer batteries
I can answer this as I just bought a 2020 Lariat and my enclosed trailer wasn't getting lights. For the 2020, the process is convoluted due to the "Smart Trailer Connector." Back up to your trailer, shut the truck off. Hook up your 7way plug, then turn on whatever 12v accessory you need- in my case I had to turn the switch for my lights on- the truck needs to detect a draw to activate the trailer charge circuit. Go back to truck and get in and shut the door (important). Then turn on ignition (do NOT start truck) and hold brake down for 3 seconds. Then turn ignition on and again hold down the brake for 3 seconds. Your trailer charge circuit (12v power out) will now be activated. If you happen to leave the truck with the fob in your pocket and get the 2 beeps? Start at step one again. Yes, I know it's crazy. It appears many people rewire this specific circuit due to this absolutely stupid system.
I just had the dealership install a break controller. When I squeeze the controller the breaks work and the screen lights up. When I use the foot break the the screen does not light up. The dealership said it won't? Did yours light up with the foot break? Thanks in advance.
Great video, I got everything done, truck picks up the brake controller, but the truck doesn't recognize the trailer. Any suggestions? I had a older F150 with the OEM controller and it worked, so I know its not the trailer. All fuses are in place
If I install an after market 3rd party controller, using the original plug, would I still have to program the truck and would the controller still show up on my truck display?
What version of Forscan are you using? I have v2.3.43 with extended license but only getting a very small amount of options of modules to configure. Doesn't even have the IPC listed. Anybody struck this before? 2020 model.
Some trucks are just missing the fuse. If you don't have a fuse in that spot, you need to check the sockets and make sure the metal receivers for the fuse are there. If so, just put the proper 30amp fuse in place. If not, it may be possible but will be much harder.
Did you have a trailer plugged in while filming? I'm asking because I don't and my display said "Trailer Disconnected" Great video, I'm guessing that everything was done right or i wouldn't get the "Trailer Disconnected" banner on my display.

Thanks. I just bought a 2020 F-150 XLT and ordered the trailer brake controller. Was wondering what I had to do to actually install it. Thanks!

Hell ya man!
Thanks for the video - made the install a breeze when i went to get it programmed - he said the other years were done differently!
Thanks for the video. Worked for my 2020 XL.
Thanks for the tip! It worked on my 2020 F150 XLT.
Yes sir! Glad to help!
Well I got mine to work properly on my 2020 thanks
Hell ya man!
Thank you worked great for me very helpful
Sweet!

If it was the cheap $50 OEM fakes people have been running into troubles with them not working properly. Get one from a reputable source.
Thank you!
Absolutely

@pliniohidalgo448 tbh, I'm not sure on that situation. I've never done an install on a truck that was Optioned like yours

Ya, it's an easy process
When you programed the TBC, did it activate the 12 volt aux in the connector. For some reason we still have no voltage at the pin and need it to charge the trailer batteries
My truck already had the fuse in the fuse box on that circuit

It will while looking at trailer info in cluster
Did you already have the 7 way plug on your truck? My XLT only has the 4 plug.
Yes

Not sure
Hi, we are having the same problem. Did you determine what was wrong or what had to be done for the truck to recognize the trailer?
@@nikkiforzetting9698 Did you ever figure out this problem
Same problem, anybody solve this yet?
Great video! Where did you get the black trim pieces to replace the grey ones? They look great!
Oem pieces I had professionally painted black
@@calawaydp I was wondering this too. They look great

Not sure bud. I would think so
Did you install a 300$ factory controller, or 70$ one from Amazon? Do you have an option either way?
Bought a used oem one off ebay
Fairway Ford on Ebay has it for $145
how did you learn to change the o to a 4 ?
Research

Same problem I'm having disappointed might have to have dealer do it after I bought thr elm scan tool too. 15 bucks but still!
Does the truck have to come with a stock 7 pin plug?
Yes
So if there is nothing there to except the fuse then the truck is not capable of excepting the factory brake switch?
you'll have to add some extra components yes

Did you have to pop the center console up? Thanks.
No sir
@@calawaydp Thanks I was curious watching some of the other install videos. Seemed like they were going way overboard with panel removal.

Yes, you have to have something plugged in to double check it works
@@calawaydp Got it, thanks for the quick response!
What ELM327 USB to OBD adapter did you use?
Some cheap Amazon 1
Way too complicated !!!
Not really
Thank you!!!
