Thank you so much. Had not heard this one in years. Used to shine shoes as a 7 year old in the many taverns in Chicago's Uptown community back when it was Hillbilly Heaven and Redskin Row. These great country songs would be playing on the jukebox. My mom would listen to WJJD in the kitchen. In those days, you had WLS top 40, WGRT Soul, Super CFL top 40, and WJJD country one after the other on the AM dial. Great music gone but not forgotten.

Cindy Walker 1918-2006, Country & Texas Hall of Fame, wrote this song. First success was Bing Crosby 1940 at only 22 when she walked into his studio. Her mother came with her, played the piano to do the demo. Mom remained her partner in writing poetry & music. They spent summer in Nashville promoting her songs to various artists. Jim Reeves also sang "In the Misty Moonlight". She never married but lived with Mom most of her life who was born before 1900 lived into her nineties dieing in 1991.

On this day in 1964 {September 5th} Jerry Wallace performed "In The Misty Moonlight" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand...
At the time the song was at #22 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, the following week it would peak at #19 {for 2 weeks} and it spent 11 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #35 on the Canadian RPM Singles chart...
Four years later in 1968 Dean Martin covered it; his version peaked #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart
Between 1958 and 1972 Jerry Wallace had thirteen records on the Top 100 chart, one made the Top 10, "Primrose Lane", it peaked at #8 {for 3 weeks} on October 26th, 1959...
Starting in 1965 he had thirty-four records on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, four made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "If You Leave Me Tonight I'll Cry", for 1 week on August 20th, 1972...
Jerry Wallace passed away at the age of 79 on May 5th, 2008...
    May he R.I.P.

If I were to list my ten favourite songs from 1964, this song would be included - and that's saying something, considering all the great songs that came out that year. Off the top of my head, I'd have to add Elvis' "It Hurts Me," Roy Orbison's "It's Over," Gene Pitney's "I'm Gonna Be Strong," the DC5's "Because," Jerry Butler & Betty Everett's "Let It Be Me," the Beatles' "Slow Down," the Everly Brothers' "Gone, Gone, Gone," the Rivieras' "California Sun," and the Kink's "You Really Got Me."

Probably said this before, but Jerry and Dean Martin versions are my favourite.

This was a surprise hit in September ,1964 at the apex of the British Invasion, where many American artists were off the air.

British Invasion (music) was one of the worst things ever. The one in 1812 we won.
