Tennis TV said that Iga made only 1 unforced error in the first set. I have never heard of such a performance before. Also, Pliskova hit 1 winner for the whole match. Iga was fantastic but had some help from Pliskova who was completely off her game. Even her service game, which is usually very good with multiple aces, was very poor today.
Have to give props to Pliskova for not faking a medical injury to avoid the embarrassment. Heard she was already sick. We can poke fun but it takes great character to give the opponent a proper victory match.

I wrote yesterday that if Iga wants to win she has to force Pliskova to run. That turned out to be unnecessary. For me this result is a surprise. I had a feeling that the Pole would win this match, but not in such a style. After the first set, I was sure that the Czech would not win even one game. There was no chance for that. It was a terrible match, one-sided. Unfortunately, it is not a good showcase of women's tennis, but what to do? I am very happy that the Pole won this match and the whole tournament. She showed that her victory in RG a year ago was no fluke. This is her 3rd tournament win and I hope it will not be the last. I am glad that finally I have an opportunity to watch my compatriot who plays aggressive tennis with brain.

I wrote yesterday that if Iga wants to win she has to force Pliskova to run. That turned out to be unnecessary.
For me this result is a surprise. I had a feeling that the Pole would win this match, but not in such a style. After the first set, I was sure that the Czech would not win even one game. There was no chance for that. It was a terrible match, one-sided. Unfortunately, it is not a good showcase of women's tennis, but what to do?
I am very happy that the Pole won this match and the whole tournament. She showed that her victory in RG a year ago was no fluke. This is her 3rd tournament win and I hope it will not be the last. I am glad that finally I have an opportunity to watch my compatriot who plays aggressive tennis with brain.

Trudno to opisać słowami. Iga nie zostawiła suchej nitki na bardzo dobrej Pliskovej. Gra kapitalnie!!!! Kiedy trzeba to subtelnie i delikatnie , ale jak trzeba przejąć inicjatywe to wtedy jest huraganem nie do zatrzymania. Tylko że na trawie (najszybszej nawierzchni) musi być tip top ale naprawdę top praca nóg i dobre ustawianie się do każdego pojedynczego uderzenia. Właśnie taka Ashley Barty wykorzysta na trawie potencjalnie przeciwko Idze te atuty i Iga będzie musiała wtedy jakoś na to odpowiadać. No ale to wszystko teoria i hipotetyczne rozważania.

@@forget3817 She has missed some recent tournaments because of injury. I am a Swiatek and Sabalenka fan, but I know how dangerous Muguruza is when she is in top form. She beat both of my gals this year on the hard courts.

I am not sure “What happened?” was the kindest opening question to Pliskova post-match! However she maintained her dignity and recognised the work of her opponent and team. What can you say? I wasn’t injured, I wasn’t sick, my family was not kidnapped by a betting syndicate.
