Is Iga going to be number 1 automatically now?
@@d.t.5390 she needs only one win in Miami to be n.1
@@mariaherman4228 thanks, that's great. she deserves it
@@d.t.5390 Yes. She would never be #1 if Barty hadn't retired.

What a great rivalry these two could have had if Barty kept playing
Never realized how good Barty was. Her weapons were so varied and methodical, especially as noted in this match. That slicing backhand was a thing of beauty.
@@Golf05 That slice prevented anyone from playing their game. So low, so unpredictable. Not even Swiatek could figure it out
Barty was incredibly talented. Here, she was very dominant, despite Swiatek playing an excellent match. What a loss for tennis Barty's leaving was.
@@jansnauwaert1785 et maintenant swiatek joue mieux qu’elle
@@obaatch3282 In French? Interesting. But no, on the contrary, Barty is still a far better No. 1 than Iga Swiatek, especially after Iga's poor display in Indian Well's semi-finals.
Barty is such an inspiration. When she first broke the top 20, her backhand slice was loose and error-prone, her forehand was unreliable, her serve was good nothing special. Since becoming #1, she's consistently near the top for ace leaderboard with an incredible serve for her height, her forehand is explosive but accurate, and her backhand slice applies such persistent pressure. Just an amazing athlete whose improvement has been so fun to watch.
@Oats & Goats: That is the mark of a champion or an elite player that is dedicated. Always trying to improve things.
She’s so versatile too.
Her precision and power is outstanding
Agreed. Great to watch with her versatile and varied game 👍
right
Personally the biggest improvement I’ve seen from last year already is the depth of her forehand and slice great player really hope she can shut the haters up and win a slam on hardcourt
I can never get enough of Barry’s sliced backhand. So beautiful to watch.
Exactly
Iga might be calm and no regret for her performance…..
Ash’s tennis is currently outstanding. Unbeatable and exceptional technique 👏
Ash did not play anybody. We will see how exceptional she is when the Grand Slams start.

Well, Iga had no regrets because she outshined Barty's achievements in just 1.5 year
@@SmithyPL - yes, now we know more. But my comment is over 2 years old nowadays 😂
Barty beat Gauff, Kenin, Swiatek and Rybakina in just this tournament, what a player. Hope she comes back one day, still so young.
Sad we won’t see this rivalry over the years now.
Instead, we will perhaps see a rivalry between Sabalenka and Swiatek (another possible contender could be Rybakina).

I miss Ash. No one hits the ball and her game like she does in the tour anymore. Amazing backhand slice and forehand that only she has.

It's okay iga, semi-finals are not a bad thing, you always give your best and I always like the way you play.

Agree with you 100%
Barty is phenomenal. She is in a class of her own. Class off and on the court.
Ash is more than ready for the AO2022! Great serving game, powerful strokes, including an improved backhand slice!
Barty = Grand Master Yoda / Iga = powerful kickass junior Jedi.... May the force be with you both!
@Randy Hernandez She's the world number 1 playing fewer tournaments.... that's not something you can achieve thanks to "form". It's a fact, not an opinion.
I just LOVE Ashleigh's backhand slice return on Iga's serve. Such touch and power under duress for the great Aussie.
My 2 favorite tennis players on the WTA.
I love to watch Barty playing, she makes hard things look easy, like Roger does
That is what I was thinking.
Boy how good is Barty right now. That nasty slice backhand even helps her set up her fantastic forehand against the most solid baseliners. Hugely Impressive as well on the manner she conducts herself.
Swiatek is a brilliant player, barty is just number 1 , congrats to both players for this outstanding performance
Came back to enjoy Barty. She’s like butter. Effortless tennis.
The grace and the smoothness with which Barty moves around is exceptional. Hardly any squeaky sound is heard while she adjusts to play her shots. The only other player to match her grace is federer. While Iga’s style of play is athletic and technical Barry’s style has both plus the ballet-like feel…
Barty is deceptive, a true professional. Iga will improve with new coach. I like both players, a joy to watch
I'd already forget what a great player Barty was(is). The 2 best players in the last 5 yrs put on a really good show.
I miss Ash so much. Iga has a brilliant career ahead of her.
Ash just looks more determined and focused too. Love both of them this should hopefully be a good year for women's tennis
Fantastyczny mecz dla obydwu. Godny finału. Brawo Iga! Dzięki za emocje podczas całego turnieju. Oby tak dalej! Trzymam kciuki za kolejne spotkania.
No regrets for my lovely and brilliant Iga: Barty right now is exceptional, so congrats to her, she's the true n° 1 and deservedly so.
This match emphasizes the crucial importance of the serve at the highest level: usually, Iga takes 1 break in every set, but makes 2 and that's enough to win most matches. But at this level even 1 break is so hard to score, let alone 2... simply unsustainable. This is enough to tilt the match from the very beginning, not only technically but also mentally: there's overwhelming pressure on Iga backhand and forehand, which are literally pushed to their limit, and also the inescapable unforced errors. Serve is the priority, but there's more; Barty's superior technique and wonderful variety have to be of inspiration for Iga, especially more online backhands, more clever/tactical back shots, and last but not the least netplay. Barty is definitely the "Maestra" to follow, jazdaaa!
Lovely post.
This match did not emphasize anything, but how the WTA is still cheating on draws. Barty did not have but two people and they are the ones she usually beats. I notice that she did not get Azarenka or Shelby Rogers in her draw. They gave her opponents where she did not do anything but stand her a$$ up the whole tournament and no she does not deserve to be in the number one spot, because she does not currently have the most slams.
@@cola7up43 I don’t think you watched this match very closely.

Barty and Swiatek rivarly could've been legendary
Still can't believe you have retired Ash Barty. I always loved watching you play. Came here to reminisce 🥰
Swaitak next world number one amazing player
Barty's on fire her game is so clean and effective. Serious candidate por AO 2022.
I'm an aussie, so I am a bit biased. It's been so good to watch Ash over the last three years. When I first saw her, I thought, top twenty for sure, maybe top ten, outside chance of winning the aussie open. I always thought her lack of height would make it tough for her. However, she has just done so well. She has such a brilliant serve and amazing slice. A number of writers have said she is a modern day Hingis, small with great skills. She's got a better serve than Martina. Maybe not quite as good as Martina at net and Martina had a better topspin backhand but its an interesting comparison. It's a little like seeing a man of five nine or five ten, dominating the men's game. Hewitt did that for a while but he didn't have Ash's skills. Well done, Ash. We are all so proud of you. An even better person, too. A national treasure. xx
Barty is on a league of her own.
Iga Swiatek looks unbeatable at the Indian Wells championship, having destroyed Naomi Osaka 6-4, 6-0. So either Swiatek improves dramatically in the last 3 months or Barty is just that good.
The WTA has found their new cute White woman to give confidence and momentum to, Iga, giving her such easy draws after her Doha win. There are certain low seeds who would give Iga trouble in early rounds and the WTA know this so they put those other players in the other draws. I will never condone Iga as a legit champion until the WTA plays fair with EVERYONE instead of favoring Iga. Barty was the True #1.
This is for the halfwitted fans: of course she would have to face tougher players in the semis but surely the finals, but seeing how she's been handed the momentum and confidence by WTA, the other top players are played with their minds. WTA know this. Cheats, bias and prejudice is what they are.

man you really don't see swiatek get beat like this anymore
Barty was pure class. Even now, being undisputed nr 1, Swiatek could learn a lot from this match: 1. improve the slice!!! 2. Precise serve (not the power) does the job!!!
iga swiatek so beautiful man😍
Love Ash’s game! Just love it!!!
Barty once again showcasing a very well rounded game and using all of the tools in her toolbox. Everything is clicking from the serve to the backhand and especially the movement and footwork. You put them all together and viola, a nice straight sets win over a very dangerous opponent in Swiatek. Barty is such a throwback because you can tell she works on all aspects of her game and it's such a joy to watch. She plays like she's from a different era and acts that way too.
All in all, a great start to the season for Iga. She's a wonderful ball striker, great athlete, and it seems like she's getting her timing on hard courts, which could be trouble for her competition. She struggled with her confidence at the end of last season, and hope those troubles are behind her; and, they are judging by how competitive she was in this match. Looking for big things from Iga this year.
Now that Barty has left, this is Iga's chance to shine (with a super talent like Barty: she would probably be eclipsed).
You were so right! 👏🏼

Osaka will retire… she will suffer after the loss for 2 years…
It may be expecting to much from Osaka to take on Barty .
She needs to get tough match fitness back try mid season 6 months from now...
Dzięki Iga za piękne emocje, jeszcze dopadniesz tą Ash spokojnie.
Barty, proving once again, that she deserves the world number one ranking. Her slice and serve is lethal, it sets her up so well for her forehand winners
Swiatek, still young, but of so much potential and talent, still needs to work on her mental game as well as her tactics on court. She needs to have a plan B and C when things are not going her way. However, she’s definitely on the path to be a future world number 1 player + multiple grand slam winner
Barty encantou a todos com seu alto nível...no tênis e nas relações humanas. Mulher que mostrou que não precisa abrir mão da doçura e sensibilidade para ser forte! Admirável! 💖👏😉💫🌻
Barty is enjoying the process of improving her game...trying to have fun playing tennis..an approach which shows in her results
I can't remember the last time a slice backhand, or the way it was deployed, made me gasp. Amazing Ash Barty! And a great run for Iga, who will surely grow into her game and dominate if she stays healthy!

Would've been a great rivalry
@@bibek6713 to bad Ash Barty retired so early.
Barty had the ability to hit the hard sliced backhand with only a slight amount of backspin. Such a shot does not lamely float back over the net. Ken Rosewall was an expert at it, used it as an effective passing shot.
Slice and serve - that was a difference. Iga played a great tennis today…
Barty’s slice is phenomenal, seen in Steffi Graf since I remember…
Not casual to take advantage of slice nowadays.
Beautiful, technical, sophisticated tennis vs Sabalenka’s bum, out, bum, out❌
Iga👍Ash💪
Despite Ash doubling down on her permanent retirement. It definitely makes you wonder how many more Slams she'd racked up? It was great to see Wozniacki return. She actually played well in the U.S. Open despite finally being beat. A lot of great talent in women's tennis at the moment.
She could’ve had a calender slam in 2022 actually. Iga would have been the only challenge at Roland Garros and nobody could have contested her at Wimbledon. US Open would be a struggle but she could take it
Well done iga i think you were brilliant . Two things which i have noticed today in this match is iga can also do slice backhand if she practicsed more and work on it moreover if she can improve her serve i am sure it will be a deadly combination . Good luck for your next match . Jazda
Excellent match!! Congrats Barty!! Stunning tennis. 👌👌👍🏻
She plays like the big 3. Very impressive. Now, I can see IGA as number 1.
this could have been an amazing rivalry
Barty game is wonderful to watch. She used her intelligence to outsmart Swiatek in this match. Beautiful backhand slice she used to great effect.
Barty is a superior athlete with a superior brain to go along with it. Such a smart player.
So, ordinary guys can measure that? I quess you got "superior" nose...
Is it just me or Ash is more agressive and with an improve first serve? Wow... I wish she gets this year AO🤞🏻
The tour misses you Ashley
this is why barty is no 1 but also iga looks a lot better then from wta finals and played well despite losing

Very true. One can tell that swiatek's been putting in the work and honing her craft.
I always would like to watch Ash Barty's amazing tennis matchs . So proud of you Ash Barty , you are a very well manered and fantastic human being and one of the best professional tennis players in the history. Lots of love from me and my family♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️🌹♥️
It's so great knowing 1GA able to response so intelligently....her knowledge of past legends like Steffi Graf...women's tennis is certainly in good hands.
3:15 Iga Swiatek's stomping around is hilarious. I just wonder what would happened if Barty intentionally hit the ball at her body
Iga would deserve it. No hate .. just facts.
Barty wouldn't do that anyway.. she has control ad is quite classy .
Looked like a great match
That was funny, but Barty would never hit someone deliberately, least of all her friend.
Clearly a hindrance as well.
Se IgA avesse la stessa determinazione di Barry, potrebbe vincere tutto
Haha! Contrast it with Ash just walking to get the towel as Iga struck a similar overhead in the second set.
Barty has a really good serve too considering she's only 5ft 5.
an exceptional one! Give Iga the same serve, and their match would really be competitive.
@@lucasalvarani317 Finally, someone who knows tennis. I watched all of Iga's matches last year. (online) I have been saying this for some time. Her first serve percentage (for the year) was the lowest of the 8 players who played in the finals in Guadalajara last year. It is often in the 50s or lower. Not only that, but it is not much of a weapon when she is getting her first serve in (she had 7 aces against Barty which is unusually high for Iga). Until Iga can transform her serve into a real weapon, she will have trouble against the top players. All of the top players have very good serves (Barty, Osaka, Sabalenka, Pliskova, Sakkari, etc.....). Barty is very small, yet she has one of the best serves in the game. She had 17 aces against Kenin and hit many more serves that were not aces but were unreturnable. Kenin had no chance. Barty did not serve as well against Iga, but she is still able to put players on the defense, even when she isn't hitting aces. Iga always has a few weak service games. She can get by with it against lesser opponents but against the top players, it will not work. I hope her new coach will concentrate on strengthening her serve. If not, she will continue to have trouble against some of the top players.
@@888drpepper I agree. She lacks the power serve, but can probably develop a precision serve like Barty. Even the variety of the second serve is crucial: she has a good kick but the opponent is expecting it.. she needs at least another reliable option. Let's hope in the work with the new coach, and grazie for the kind words!
I agree it really is amazing Ash is short yet she can serve over 110 miles per hour. Her serve is superb.

Long way to go for Iga yet, but I believe she'll reach there eventually. Well Barty nothing I can say, she's a monster, number 1 for a reason
@Randy Hernandez Yes doctor, this is the guy
"Long way for Iga" - not necessarily. Iga already WON a grand slam championship (the 2020 French Open) so don't forget that. Of course, Iga is only 20 years old and she has time to work on her game :)
@@ohaggie Yeah I know that I watched it live. Still a very very long way, consistency is key for a true champion, which as much as I love her she lacks (and Iga fans are totally unable to acknowledge that). She's not there yet, saying that she's is being totally delusional. But I believe she'll be number 1 eventually.
@@avallach2061 - I never said Iga was 'there yet' - I said that she is young and has time to improve on her game...LOL. My favourite player is actually Ash Barty and not Iga but I do like watching Iga play. She has drive and determination as most players do. Yes, of course, consistency is key.
@@ohaggie yeah I didn't mean to be an ass it's just that Iga is my favorite player but the fans treat her like the best player in the universe whenever she wins and never acknowledge she has a lot to improve yet, it's just annoying. But I'm with you, love seeing Barty play too, peace!
The whole women's tour is happy from a competetive standpoint that Ash Barty retired. Who has benefited the most from this, lga Swiatek.
That’s not true Swiatek is a tennis prodigy. Win her first grand slam at 19 and we knew she would dominate the game later or sooner. She is a completely different player since her defeat to Ostapenko. Did Barty had a streak or won consecutive titles? I don’t think so
@@stef2330 Barty was beating her straight up head to head. lt's on video. Now it would be wrong to say that Iga wasn't going to catch up and make it a rivalry if Barty hasn't retired. No one was going to stop Iga from winning majors. Based on their past to ignore what's already on tape is kind of strange.
Iga will dominate for quite some time. lf Barty was still playing Iga would eventually start beating her and then the 2 would go back and forth. That's the way sports works. Look at the big 3 in men's tennis. Too bad we won't get to see Barty vs Swiatek for the next 5 years.
@@gregoryphillips3969 yeah, ostapenko (3-0) and sakkari (3 times in a row last year) were beating her straight up head to head. this new iga beat sakkari 2 times in a row and still waiting for a penko rematch 😂. It’s sad Ash retired but it’s not the first time a top player o world number one retires and iga will be probably done with the sport if she wins an Olympic medal at Paris 2024 and go to college (age 23). This dominance from Iga will rise the level of the field so the rivalries are coming especially on grass right now since iga is still learning how to play on it.
@@stef2330 Yes but l guess Barty and her inner circle were the only ones who knew she was retiring. One has to wonder how this desire of hers impacted her efforts in the last part of her career. She did retire as the world number 1. A fully motivated Barty with here tremendous variety would have been tough for anyone to play going forward.

Best match of 2022 so far!
Iga's serve is her downfall in matches like these. When her opponents can neutralize her groundies, she can't rely on her serve for free points. It needs some fixing. Barty, on the other hand, has an efficient serve that can bail her out of tough situations & give her free points.
Iga you need a stronger service game ...... you already there . 🔥💜
online backhand too! Her cross-court backhand is great but she doesn't mix it enough, so the other player can anticipate where she'll play and forcing Iga to search increasingly acute angles... which is not sustainable at this level.
@@lucasalvarani317, I think she has a good one, she just didn't use it during this match, at least I didn't see it in the highlights.

This is an interesting glimpse into what might have been a great rivalry.
How smooth Barty games was
I really love Swiatek. She's my favourite female player. But I think the issue with many female players is that they are ok with losing, they don't hate losing. The thing with the big 3 in mens tennis is that they hate losing so much that it makes them push to win. The girls could push a bit more. But I hope Swiatek will become stronger.
We miss you ash.. please come back...
Two great players I like them both. Congrats of course to Barty.
To make Swiatek look that much less good than Barty shows just how spectacular Barty plays here because Swiatek plays amazingly.
Really miss watching Barty play 😔
Que saudades de ver um tênis bem jogado igual a Barth jogava.
Barty will always be the true No. 1.
This is only my opinion, but Ash just seems to move in such a smooth way. She gets to balls with speed, but it looks effortless.
Basically what people said about Federer
Barty the goat
Don't know who she is???
Iga and Ash would make an awesome doubles pairing.
I hope they upload every Barty match in full length as a compensation for her early retirement... such a great player, especially the monster serve from a 5'6 player incredible
I am in awe of how Ash was able to flip a switch late in the second set with Coco after playing incredibly rusty to that point. She's just continued to build her momentum❤
