Never seen such an excellent step by step video. Can't thank you enough for putting this video for many of us to learn from it!!!! I have learned a lot.👍👍👍
@@LawnRight Florida is nice, but not in the Summer, it's like swimming in a bowl of hot soup. Yes our grass usually spreads if you do plugs, but it can take a season or two to fill in unless you do sod.
You are right , best feeling after many steps prepping for seed , reaching the levelled soil done all on your own , laying down the seed and compost , rolling in , just wonderful , and at this time of year fast germination!!!
Great that you've mentioned about stones left on the surface.... I was wondering about how many to remove and to what size... have acquired some topsoil to level mine off and there were far too many stones.. have cleared many.. now, I have a better idea how far to go with de-stoning.. brilliant, thank you.
Thanks.. just do your best.. remember each stone could get in the way of a root growing.. but dont sweat it.. I'd say anything under half cm ton1cm you should be ok.. that's what I've gone on.. but you could go on forever.....
Very interested to see the Bannerman top dresser in action. For such an expensive machine a Landzie rotating drum top dresser appears to be a smarter, cheaper way to go (and agitates the lumps AND sieves out some larger material). A Landzie looks to be lighter to handle to boot. I don't own either - just an observation. I am a fan of rye too (which stripes nicely and works well in a UK climate). I have used Johnson's Premier Pitch Pro Nitro and whist expensive, it really establishes quickly and grows vigourously. I am trying to drum up the nerve to renovate my lawn and your series is very helpful and inspiring. Many thanks and keep making the vlogs.
Thanks Graeme.. yes ive seen the landzie and will probably get one soon. I got my dresser a few yeara ago now. The landzie is smaller and lighter and tahts taken my interest
Just done this with 50 x 60 Litre bags of compost (by hand) after scarification. Can’t say it was easy but it’s done now and I hope the results will be worth it. Still raining here and only 10-13C. Very cool for May.
Sounds good.. as long as the seeds are touching soil you should he fine.. water lightly and often.. use roller fiet to roll it all in after the dressing.. good luck
It would be easy to make up a 10mm chicken wire strainer to fit the Topdresser opening, then rub the compost through, just an idea to break up the larger pieces. I'll have to watch the series again, our Spring is still 4 months away, I'm redoing the back yard and I'll need a professional to move all the clay out of the front yard and Sandy Loam soil put in to replace it, so some serious yard work ahead. I like the idea of compost to cover the seed. Great video series, thanks.
Do you ever check temperature of soil for overseeding in early spring for optimum germination? Seems even warm air isn't enough if ground is under 60degF.
Well done A lot of perseverance in the face of some adversity with the slightly stoney soil and the Bannerman getting blocked. Well done on reaching the end and now you can see the rewards as the lawn comes through. Will be interested to see what you think of the racecourse mix once it’s been established. Keep up the videos
Amazing how far a bag goes with that drop spreader. I think you would have issues with the lanzie too if the compost is damp. The 70/30 top dressing i used in the fertiliser spreader works great but wouldn't work with compost. Great series mate 👏
Hi, you could try stringing a line over it with some shiny tinfoil dangling down over it or a flag nearby. I didnt bother as most seeds was well covered with the topdressing
We are lucky we have a long garden, so if she does it's not always very noticeable. Over the years I've recommended ketchup in with their dinner, dog rocks and the results are mixed. I've recently heard good things mostly, about green peez amzn.to/3uzaKIQ

No probs. Just an unbranded commercial one. I need to find and start using products readily available on my own lawn. Sorry theres plenty available such as this one on amazon amzn.to/3ewpdQd
Hi Karl, it all came through lovely thick and Green in the end. My latest video (lawn care shopping list) shows the lawn in the background. The renovation was carried out in April 2021 and put online in May 2021 and by this point we had good coverage
Another great video. Really helpful. Thanks. What roller do you use? So many I’ve looked at have lots of bad reviews. Would love to know what yours is. Keep up the great work!
you just need a little warmth to kickstart the germination mate. that top dresser is great pity about the compost being damp. no doubt your going to use a cylinder mower on it ? top job mate 👍👍👌
I might have to invest in a trailer to buy some myself. Apparently you can buy it for around £7 a tonne. I've just used the aggregate suppliers to save me the hassle really

That's a lot of hard work, makes me appreciate my sandy Florida soil that we don't usually seed.
That's a wonderful place to be.. hope its nice and Sunny. Regarding seeding is that because your grass usually spreads across the surface?

Another great video. Hard work and attention to detail will pay off no doubt.
Thanks Nigel!
I’ve enjoyed seeing the whole process. Looking forward to seeing the end results 👍🏼
Thanks
Great series to have done. We’ll summer. Be great to see results
Thanks.. as i type, I'm already seeing some lovely green shoots appearing.. it's only been 2 weeks.. cant wait!

Great video but Peatmoss in my lanzie imitation spreader does a great job. Only problem is constant dumping of the sphagnum. That part is a pain.
Yeah I know that feeling.. if you're in the uk you could try fieldcompost.co.uk field number 4..amazing stuff
Looking forward to see how it got on
Well done Shaun. You deserve a another bottle of lager or glass of wine.
Ha ha yes I've got some chilling now in the fridge.. ironically both of those 😁

A part 6 would of been nice. Once you have a full green lawn.

Not often to be honest but probably should

Landzie does great with wet compost. Breaks down with the rolling motion
@@Nikonp-hg6yl I would like to get one next year 👍

Great video as always, does Betsy leave pee stains, if so how do you treat them to stop the grass being killed off ?

Just very simple to understand step by step. Quick question ... where do you buy the mesh from you put around the lawn at the end?
Thanks Dan they can be found on Amazon or eBay probably other places too. This is the one I bought amzn.to/2SDaVVr
Thank you for sharing all your knowledge, quick daft question when would be best to do this autumn or spring?
Hi.. any are fine.. however if you have shade just aerate and scarify in autumn if you want to then look to seed in spring as some seeds can die over winteŕ

Hi spring or autumn have the best success rates for most people
@@LawnRight Ah ok. Great. Will do it this autumn for sure then. Thanks for getting back to me👍🏼

Hi anything thats fairly balanced. If yur lawn goes brown often then avoid any high Nitrogen feeds as this will likely lead to burn

Topsoil is the biggest scam going it’s crap where ever you buy it from.
