Well, if you follow the Thai law and drive according to the rules including wearing a helmet and international license, then there are not any problems. Then never mind that you see 5 kids in 4 to 7 years on a motorbike without a helmet, it's not your problem and you can't argue that "if they don't need a helmet, I don't also".... the police have their own opinion.

Exactly...not whining about at all...I was trying to lighten up the situation but the Captn' wasn't having any of. He really didn't like my joke at all. Yeah...I paid him 5,000 bht, the fine for what I did, I was told, was only about 500 bht. So yeah...I got raped by the police. Did I bitch n whine about it ? No...I went on my day and just figured, " well...there goes today's budget" I really didn't care. I was solo traveling for my birthday and living it up. So you were fined 5000 baht for riding the wrong way? Did you give the cops in the little booth the 5000 baht or did you have to pay at the police station? Was there any paperwork with the fine? Because I was fined 500 baht up in Chiang Mai for going through a no entry barrier taking a short cut. I joked with the cop and we had a laugh then I said how about I give you 250 baht cash, he replied 300 baht and I discreetly passed 300 baht over to him. I'm thinking your 5000 baht went in their back pockets. In all my time in Thailand I've never heard such a high fine for such a minor offence. A Thai I know from down at the markets here was fined a couple of weeks ago 10,000 baht for driving drunk and you were fined half that amount for almost doing nothing!
Have you ever been to Tijuana ...Or Mexico ? That's what they did to me. No paper work. Just 5,000 bht. I tell my friends that i got "Tijuana'd" there.
Yes @brentonlett3417 yes they did. And THAT was the ONLY time I got took...by the police. But other than that...I had a f$#king awesome time my entire month. This added to all my "once in a lifetime experiences" I had that month. All in all...I really didn't mind.
$150?? That’s the price of a speeding ticket here in Floriduh! Just imagine what it’d cost going the wrong way here though - it’s way more than $150! 😂 Plus, maybe get your license revoked and insurance premiums through the roof. Count yer blessings!

@theanimaster oh yeah...for sure. But the fine in court is only 500 baht. 15 bucks. So...they got me. Lunch on me for the rest of the month. 🙄
