Heres a few tips from someone who did this today. you will need a swivel head to get to the tension bolt head. and also, make sure you spray some penetrating oil on that tensioner thfread underneath, because odds are its rusted up, and you will snap it like i did. the replacement bolt is 32.99 at autozone. Also, when reinstalling the idler pulley, dont tighten it so it cant move. if you do, when you start the car..the belt will snap because that pulley is locked tight. the belt is 15.99 at autozone fyi

and, if you have big hands, you will never get that back alternator bolt in. i procured the help of my wife who put it right in. id say the part of this job that i thought sucked, is the stupid clamps on the hoses. those kind stink

Alternator go bad all the time, how ever one thing to take away from this video aside instructions on changing alternator is make sure you have you water guard so the tire dont splash water on your alternator everytime its wet on the road and dude that belt needed to go. I mean you where there seeing all that cracked edges and all. Only 17 and some change at O'Reilly. Aside from that you did a good job.

Did mine yesterday in a parking lot while it was raining on and off. Took me from 8am till 4pm. Taking the radiator out was easy but the lower alternator bolt was stripped so bad that I ended up having to buy a set of extractor bits from harbor freight. Getting the pulley back on properly was a pain in the ass figured out you have to pull it towards you as you tighten it or it will just spin and you have to unbolt it some in order to adjust the height with the adjustment screw. Finally got it all done though and this video helped out a ton I bought one with a lifetime warranty and went ahead and bought a new belt and battery so hopefully it will be the last time I have to mess with it. Love my van.

Use long needle nose pliers to extract the last bolt while holding up the alternator to get it out. You can slide the bolt back in with your fingers and put the 14mm nut to hold in place while putting the 12mm bolt afterward.

@@FixitFelix529 well my scenario was a bit different. First, I have a 2013 which is different. There is a cooler for the AC in front of the radiator. I didn't want to remove AC lines so I decided to leave the radiator in place. Instead, I took out the alternator from behind the passenger tire. After disconnecting the AC compressor, and moving it out of the way, I had just enough room to pull out the alternator. Your video was still helpful by giving me the idea to get if from behind the tire. Thanks!

A good test for an alternator: With the engine running, disconnect the battery ground (negative side). If that kills the engine, the alternator is bad and needs to be replaced. Simple test.

BTW, Never reinstall a old cracked fan belt like the one in this video. Buy a new one so you don't have to go back and replace it next month (on the side of the road when you're away from home).
