    Hi Katy,
I appreciate this video and can imagine your community is proud of you for being in a position where you are able to quit your day job to pursue your passion project. As a millennial (4 years into my own career) I do have to say the discussion around influencers quitting day jobs because they dont bring them joy is slightly offputting to new grads. The majority of recent graduates who continue into entry level positions do not enjoy the work that they do, find themselves overworked, undervalued and not fully stimulated. The fact of the matter is there is a reason that you are paid to work a job; and you pay to experience hobbies.
There is nothing wrong with your video. But i do feel the need to pass along that the majority of new grads are experiencing all the issues you were without the ability to up and quit. I am excited for you in this new chapter. But as a role model for many young women, It should be important to communicate to your audience the demands of the corporate environment so as to make sure that they do not naively enter into the world expecting to fully be content in their jobs - or quit.
    Cheers!

Bronwyn Valentine completely agree! I love katy so much but I’m graduating college next year and looked up to how she was working a 9-5 while still having passion projects on the side. Idk I its just disheartening to know that this will never be a choice I have but I’m glad katy has the opportunities she does

Bronwyn Valentine thank you for sharing this. I love Katy & support her 10000%, but I agree lot of people feel stressed, anxious, upset and irritable after being at a demanding, adult job for awhile. It doesn’t mean we can quit. We must do hard things in life! I’m glad you shared this!

Also we have to realize that our bosses and idols also started off doing things they hated before growing into the roles they have now. Some executives have been with their same company for years and love it. Some entrepreneurs don't get their big break til their older and end up using connections they made while at work. Lawyers leave their firms with the clients they've amassed and end up working for themselves. You push paper for a boss you hate but one of your companies clients loves you and you end up landing your dream job via that connection. Life happens in different ways.

DID NOT SEE THIS COMING. i have enjoyed ur l’oréal videos but i’m so happy for what’s next for you. you were the first youtuber I ACTUALLY ever subscribed to like 5 years ago. 🖤
edit: after watching the whole video. I hate how difficult this is for youtubers when it shouldn’t be. the reality is no one wants to be in a job that they are miserable in. if you have the opportunity to follow ur dreams you should!!! not only that employers move on in the snap of a finger, her position will be replaced (let’s all remember she works for a million dollar company) she will get to pursuer her dreams, and her past job at l’oréal is going to open a door for someone else to pursue their dream job (her position) 🌿 so proud of you!!!!!
also i have a small vlog channel if you wanna be friends :)

M financial stability doesn’t matter if you spend your entire life bored and feeling like you’re in a constant loop everyday. some people want stability and are happy with a 9-5 but i think it’s incredible if more young people desire more from life than that, even if it means they don’t have as much money as someone working a traditional job.

@M well, I work a 40-hour week but it's not truly only 40 hours. Taking in consideration the time to get ready for work, then commuting to work, and the reality of sometimes staying over time or having to take work home is more than 40 hours. I think it's great when people try to achieve their dreams and take risks versus just being safe and taking the usual route that everyone expects them too.

However, I recently graduated uni and I’ve been trying to get a good job to further my career and not a filler job and it’s been difficult. So when I saw you at your job I always had this “why couldn’t my life be like that? thank you for opening up! it's interesting to see so many youtubers growing up and doing different things this year. i just graduated and i'm spending 24/7 trying to figure my future out and its HARD. there's so many options and it's easy to feel pressured into feeling like you have to have the "perfect" life and career. but anyone not on youtube can probably relate MORE to the fact that life is strange and scary when you're young. i think your choice was empowering and intuitive - something i'd rather look up to than someone who is afraid of being themselves and accepting that they deserve a happy life measured by their OWN standards. ok thats all for my rant good luck love xoxo

Yes, we understand that UA-camrs and Instagram Influencers don't like to have a "traditional" job so to speak but in reality that is not feasible for 99% of the population. The rest of us have student loans and bills to pay where we don't make $500 for posting a sponsored instagram photo.

Cannot stand some of these comments, it is unbelievable. I totally understand some of you, being in the same boat, but why put someone down for being able to quit their job? I absolutely hate my job and would love to quit right now, but when I watched this video, I was so happy that Katy is able to do this for herself. Every time someone does something to make themselves happy, there is always other people who hate it. If you haven't noticed, she is incredibly smart and knows there are people out there who cannot do what she does. But all of these comments of "oh well you are actually able to quit your job" or "you're lucky you can do this, I'm suffering at my job and can't do what you're doing" or "you're so privileged to do this" are full of jealousy and anger. A majority of people will not get their dream job right out of school, and a lot will not in their life, but you can work towards it. My mom just got her dream job at 57 years old. Life is not easy and definitely not fair. But stop trying to bring someone else down because you aren't happy. Be happy for her and work towards whatever you want to in your life. Congrats Katy!!

I am still trying to figure out what I'd like to do, as I do not find my 9-5 fulfilling at all times. I'm not disappointed in you in the slightest. You are able to do this. I'm not right now. And that's okay. I hope to find my passion one day and be able to make a career out of that. I hope this next chapter is a great one for you! I look forward to following along.

Thank you for this. I just had my second baby and I’m stuck between a limbo of going back to work or starting my own business and staying home with my two babies. I’m taking things one day at a time, doing research and watching different UA-cam content and this was a very good, inspiring, honest video that is helping me put things into perspective. I hope you and your business are doing well and prospering.

I really needed to see this video. I am currently a new grad (graduated 1.5 years ago) and I feel like the job I took after graduation wasn't my passion, but I accepted it out of fear for being unemployed. When you say "i feel like im destined for so much more" could not summarize my feelings any better. Thank you for being so candid and sharing your experience. This has helped to give me the courage to start applying to new jobs and not make the same mistake i made when i graduated.

As someone who quit their full-time job with Facebook a few days ago, THANK YOU for sharing this!! Because I discovered this video of yours, I was led to other videos of yours and I couldn't find a channel on here that I related more to than yours. I felt like I was working so many other things that I liked, including my outdoor travel blog and freelancing, but I decided I wanted to be my own boss and take on freelancing full-time as a marketer instead and while I do not have a full plan of what I'm doing and I'm learning from this, I've never been more determined to try this freelancing thing more full-time aside from pursuing it once in a while. I was tired of corporate life and while I'm not sure if I would return to corporate yet, I knew in my guts I was destined for so much more.
I'm aware not everyone has the privilege to just quit their full-time/9-5 job but I worked hard to make sure I saved and I decided to use what I know to turn it into something I can try to do more full-time like it's my own business. If this freelancing thing doesn't turn up as good as I'd hope, then, of course, I'll go back to looking for a 9-5 job just to keep me afloat and surviving, but when you dedicate your time to a company, you also dedicate your full-on energy and I used a lot of my energy to almost get me uninterested in working on my own passions like my blog and helping clients on my own and that certainly isn't good... My blog site is what kept me happy and looking forward to life when there was so much that went wrong.
So for anyone who is reading this and feels stuck in their 9-5, there is always hope to give it a shot to pursue doing something outside the traditional job route and to see what can come out of it, especially if you know you have the work ethic and networking skills to help you.
I saw Katy's video on her freelancing biz that came after this video and how she made $70k per year and that is SO amazing how it worked out for her.

Katy - Wow.. I can relate so much. When I got the notification for this video I felt so happy for you. I am in a similar position with my job and decided to leave because it has become detrimental to my well-being sitting in a desk and looking at a computer screen. However I am not privileged monetarily I am currently a full-time student and had been working at this job as well and I physically can't do it anymore, I was having mental breakdowns at work and I remember telling my boss was so gut-wrenching and terrifying even though he is the best boss ever.... I totally felt exactly what you said, a weight lifted off my body and I no longer felt like I was suffocating.
Been reading the comments and I am seeing lots of people complaining but I am an example of someone who can do it and is not extremely privileged in a monetary sense.. I have to move back with my parents once I officially quit & I am privileged to be able to do that, however if you hate your 9-5 job you CAN still quit and get a different job you like. What is stopping you? The fear of not using your degree? The fear of not having a real "Career"? What your family will think and say? Are you going to let fear rule your life?? Essentially, this is what Katy did... Found a different job, she just so happens to already have an "in" or head start in her new job. You might not make as much at whatever job you decide to switch to whether it be a serving job, or working at a day care but the hours are more flexible...
So to all of you miserable office workers I have a question: What do you value more, making good money/having "nice things" OR being happy with what your doing? If your answer is money, that is absolutely understandable and I have been there and I placed more value in that for the past 2 years but I eventually got so worn out that it wasn't worth it - why am I wasting time doing something that makes me feel miserable? I feel too young to do that!! So if you said money, sorry but you just have to deal with hating your job since you place more value to monetary value/materialistic things.
You can sustain a happy life on a very small amount of money if you budget right..
If you are in a similar place and you actually care about your happiness, you will quit your job like Katy did! So proud of you girl.

I have to say when I first saw he title I was kind of disappointed. As someone who is 1 year postgrad working full time, I loved following you because you were so relatable. It felt good to see someone else going through the same struggles and learning curve as me, living away from home in a city and trying to figure things out. I’ll be sad to see that go from your content. But in saying that I also COMPLETELY relate to what you’re saying about your job and about your work going through 10 other people and not really being your work anymore. I’m going through the exact same thing. And in that way, this video has really made me think, and I realise that my disappointment only comes from a place of selfishness and jealousy. If I was in your position, I would be doing exactly what you are. Sadly I can’t leave my job, but you’ve inspired me to have a really long hard think about what I want and about maybe pushing myself harder to pursue some small side projects I have going on, and to potentially try and get into a position where I can change jobs, or pursue something of my own in future. It makes me realise you and your journey is relatable not because we’re in the same position, but because you have the same emotions and feelings that all of us can relate to, and because you’re so open with expressing them and sharing your journey with us. Really excited to see what this new chapter brings you and wishing you the best of luck Katy!

I graduated early from college for financial reasons, I then applied for some teaching jobs back in my home town. I got “lucky” and got a job teaching high school art. I became very unhappy and knew I needed a change and so I applied to go back to college for graphic design. I quit my job last week and am going to start back school in January! I have seen the foreshadowing of this moment. I always felt you wanted something else and that you would be happy with following your own ambitions instead of working for a corporate company. This is so amazing Katy, you are not letting anyone down I feel so sad that you even have to embrace that feeling. (I have been following you for so long, since sine you/we were both in high school - we are the same age) Im so proud of you, and I have so much confidence in you and what you are on the verge of accomplishing/getting closer to accomplishing. You are not going to fail, you have so much determination and persistence you should not even worry about failing. I think you are most scared of the pathway leading to what you are envisioning, I am the same way. Just remember it takes some time and PATIENCE, be self-aware of patience. You are in the mist of building your idealistic career and is so hard - take applause for the little moments. I was working and decided I wanted to go to law school and finally I will be done with taking the LSAT next Monday, and all of my law school applications will be done - I just understand you some of your feelings because it is has been so hard chasing my dreams. It was taken me 8 months to be where I am - countless break downs, so much self encouragement, + drafting the steps necessary to continue your way to your greatest achievements - this is what I find to be the remedy for success. You've got this. xoxo, @sarahubing

It's soooo scary and it's terrifying to leave family and do something totally out of my comfort zone, but I also think it's so important to take risks in life and make choices that aren't just pre-planned notions of what life is "supposed to be." Your snippet about fear and doing something scary despite being afraid of failure so so needed right now, and I'm so thankful you were so honest. Congrats!
