    About Anjelah:
Anjelah Johnson-Reyes was born and raised in San Jose, California where she grew up with four siblings in a large extended family to which she remains close. Anjelah found herself an internet sensation and pioneer in viral UA-cam videos when her notorious “Nail Salon” bit from a local comedy show was posted and received over 100 million views! Shortly thereafter she was added to the cast on the original MADtv where she trademarked her legendary character, Bon Qui Qui. Similar to the nail salon video, the Bon Qui Qui sketch caught on and have been viewed by over 75 million people. The multi-hyphenate’s popularity has translated into four successful comedy specials: That’s How We Do It” (Comedy Central), The Homecoming Show (NUVO TV), Not Fancy (Netflix) and Mahalo & Good Night (Epix). She has displayed her acting prowess both on TV and film. Some of her credits include “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “Superstore,” “Moms’ Night Out,” and “Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.” Her first book was published in 2022, Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams, a hilarious and touching memoir full of memorable anecdotes on how a Latina dynamo was able to forge ahead and become successful.

As a La Leche League leader, I always told new mommas to remember that breastfeeding is natural like walking is natural, not like breathing is natural. Everybody walks, it is natural, but it’s a process that takes time and support, you’ll fall down and you’ll get back up and that’s ok.

      Hang in there
      You will increase your supply!
I had to pump every 2 hrs til my preemie got out of nicu & it does take time to build up milk supply but it will happen.
Stay hydrated and dont stress ,she will supplement with formula and be fine until your supply increases- its normal process for some

At age 70, this brought back so many memories! I used the book called The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding back when I was going thru this journey! The best advice I got from that was the more they nurse the more the milk will come in. For me, not supplementing but just nursing on demand, whether it was every 30 minutes or every 2 hours, is what brought my milk in good and rich! It's very tiring at first but once that supply is established, it's such a breeze! Not having to worry about packing enough bottles was so nice. As they grew so dd the demand for milk changes and your realize they're going through a grow spurt and you quickly get into a routine once again, Praying for you and your sweet little one. The most important things is LOVE. I was able to nurse my youngest for 18 months and loved every second of it after the first few weeks! Love to all

I am currently nursing my fifth little baby, and I thought I was a PRO but this last little girl has humbled me. She too had a significant tongue tie that not only tore my nipples to shreds in the first month but she also couldn’t transfer enough. Keep up with it, friend. The revision plus her getting bigger/stronger will make it so she will be able to transfer more milk. I finally stopped pumping around 6 months and it’s only booby now 👏 ps. One of my favorite things I do with this babe that I wish I had done with my first four were booby baths. We bathe together and nurse in there. So relaxing and might help with the bonding aspect.

After giving birth, life can be fraught with challenges. Breast feeding, for some, just seems to be easy. Of course, I felt I was gifted with difficult babys. Don't beat yourself up for eventually giving up on breast feeding. This time will pass quickly. You can bond and have a sweet momma/baby experience without breast feeding super success. Stop stressing yourself out and enjoy this time with Rosie. She won't remember breast feeding or not. She just wants you close.

Pain for me was gone immediately after lip tie surgery and my boy nursed like a dream after that. It was heartbreaking for a few weeks with him recovering from the surgery but it allowed us to nirse for 2 years when I initially had a goal of 6 months. I am a SAHM so i know that was a huge help. Thank you for this raw video of motherhood. My baby is 7 months now and we are on the breastfeeding journey. Also the only one on both sides of the family who has been successful with breastfeeding. When baby girl was a newbie I wouldn’t come out of the bedroom until noon or so. We spent time just resting and laying together and breastfeeding her on demand as well as a lot of skin to skin. This wasn’t something that was suggested but a choice as a mother that I made and was supported by my husband. I was able to recover much quicker as well. Blessings to you and your beautiful family. ❤❤❤

I love your message! I lasted 2 months with each child. I wish that I'd have called in a specialist. I felt like a failure because all of my friends nursed their children until they were one year old. Looking back, I did the the best that I could with the energy that I had. I had 2 children who were 14 months apart, both c-sections.

You won’t regret sticking with it! Praying your supply picks up and you can keep at it as long as you want! I nursed my first for 21 months until I got pregnant again and my supply ran out and two years with my second. Such special memories and times shared with both of them! People talk about how hard labor is but leave out how nursing, in my opinion, is way harder. It’s worth every minute of pain and agony when it all works out! ❤️

My little man is 2.5 months old and doing fantastic on his formula, granted it took us 4 formulas to figure out what worked for him, but he's FED and HAPPY! :) The hardest part for me was the guilt and shame I felt from the nurses around me at the hospital. I was never able to be the sole provider of nutrition for my babies. I was too stressed, too tired, too under nourished, and my milk was no fat compared to my friends whose looked like 50% cream. I cherish my successes and experiences and can now let go of the tearful memories of self blaming and disappointments. May God bless you on your journey together.❤

My girl, just can't help but look at you now and remembering your craziness on stage before motherhood. I can just tell you are going to be a great mom! Just the fact that you did a video talking about breastfeeding with the baby on your chest is amazing. My journey with breastfeeding was the total opposite. I had soooo much milk that I donated milk to mom's like you who couldn't use formula. It was also a struggle in a very different way. My sister was my hero as she had breastfed all three of her children. She taught me how to get the baby to latch on and how to sit and hold the baby while feeding. They did nothing to help me in the hospital. But we are here for you girlfriend. Ask us anything, we know it all. Thinking of you and send thoughts and prayers for success in whatever way it comes. And Rosie will thank you later for that thick hair! That is some hair. This is coming from a 71 year old woman who had thick hair and still does. Love you girl!

My experience was also very challenging the first 2 months but then somewhere during month three we turned a corner. It was no longer a stressful, anxious feeding time. My son and I got in sync. I was learning more about him and his latching “style” and his little internal clock. I literally could see how we were more in rhythm with each other with each feeding. So after month 3, it was awesome. It turned into the bonding time we both needed. I’m glad I persevered because I did get so frustrated and felt like I was failing. I just gave myself and my baby time to figure it out together. I thought about all the other moms in different parts of the world. They have obstacles, they may not have the abundance that we have, they may have to do physical work with their baby on their backs, but they figure it out and they feed their little nugget. ❤. Doctors may tell you your baby is underweight and make you feel like this is devastating news etc etc. What they don’t tell you is that the chart they use to tell you what weight your baby should be from 0-3 weeks, 3 weeks-6 weeks…is based on formula fed babies. Those stats are NOT based on breastfed babies. So your breastfed baby is not necessarily underweight at all. The baby maybe in the 90 percentile with other breastfed babies. So what I learned is the doctors don’t know everything and you and the baby are a team! You’ve worked together in sync for 9 months already and you’ll figure out how to reconnect now that the venue has changed from inside the womb to the great outdoors 😊! Anjelah you and your sweet babes got this ok!! Best wishes! Z-

You are doing amazing! My sisters who are twins were both born with tongue ties and still do at 30 years old. It was not easy for me when I had my baby. I tried and it just wasn’t for us. I have some great memories from when I was producing enough and then the days when I was extremely frustrated. At the end of the day you do what’s best for you and your baby.

Wow. I just now learned you had your baby. What a beautiful head full of black hair she has! I am sure daddy is very happy and proud of both his girls. I have confidence that you and Rosie will be a great team. I remember those exhausting days of keeping up with my son and his breastfeeding. I had to stop early because he had to be hospitalized and I just could not get back into it. But children thrive with love, and he got plenty, as little Rosie is getting. May God bless you both.

@@lisatollison7346 lol same here, when the milk finally kicked in it was unbelievable.. I went from few drops 💦 and having to add formula for my son.. to unbelievable amounts of milk and pumping the rest.. I hope Anjelah sees this and gives fenugreek at least a try even if she tried everything else, because for me too nothing else worked .. and maybe this combination may end up not working for her, but that’s the most powerful we know of

All new moms seem to be overwhelmed, especially with a first or only child, but noone seems to talk about how difficult it is, how much they feel like a failure... I really think that more women need to speak up and be honest and open about it. As women we should be supporting one another, not competing. Your vulnerability talking about this will likely help hundreds if not thousands of women in their journeys. You are such a blessing, as an entertainer, as a woman, and as a mom. ❤

I could not produce enough for my son, he was a big baby and for whatever reason I just could not keep up. I alternated breast with formula feeding and had a lactation specialist who was also an RN. She helped keep me from feeling guilty and was so reassuring. You are a good mother. It's not a failure on your part, it is just another parenting challenge. It also gave daddy the ability to enjoy the feeding bond, and that is a really good. thing. God bless!!!

So happy to see one of my favorite comedians getting real with real life stuff like this!!! Tongue tie and lip tie is so common and is NOT DISCUSSED enough. My first had it and we struggled until her revision. So many hours of pumping. But it was all worth it. I nursed her for almost 2 years and now my second baby is 9 months going strong nursing! It is possible with better education to help moms produce milk and help newborns nurse better. 🎉❤ kudos to you and may the milk fairies bless us so long as we desire to nurse our babes!

Nothing is as humbling and beautiful as the vulnerability of caring for a child. Babies don't naturally stick their tongues out. You're doing very well. There's so much to learn. Babies love to be with their mamas at first and they love love love their daddies all the time.

Breastfeeding can be stressful, my 1st child went on like a vacuum lol, my second didn’t want to latch on at all and I was crying like a baby and my third one was hopeful. I just couldn’t produce a lot either I wish I would’ve got a lactation specialist like you did. I pray that your breast feeding journey will go a lot smoother now for you and Rosie. Prayers for healing. She’s got a head full of black hair, so adorable 🥰

I'm so sorry this was so hard!!! With my first I was a wreck, he was tongue tied and had the procedure, but we still struggled. Same thing, I tried the lactation specialists, etc, but we still struggled. At his one month appointment, I was so stressed and the pediatrician walked in and said, "Mom, he's beautiful, you're doing such a great job." I burst into tears, because it was the sweetest and most relieving thing anyone had ever said. Five kids later, some could nurse, others I just pumped and bottle fed, others I pumped and then switched to formula because I was beyond exhausted. All that to say, you are doing awesome Mama! She is so gorgeous and you are doing so great!!! Give yourself lots of grace. So happy that you have such a good perspective on this because I think so much of my struggle was not having that. Congratulations to you and your husband, she is so precious and I love that she's already voicing her opinion on your plans 😂❤

A good IBCLC is worth their weight in gold! Mine identified a lip tie in my daughter and muscle tightness on the right side of her face which were keeping her from breastfeeding. She helped me get everything resolved. My milk supply was low too because she couldn’t breastfeed very well. She had me rent a commercial grade pump for about a month (which was not expensive) and my supply bumped up within a week! Amazing! I breastfed her for over 2 1/2 years and she was a champion breastfeeder but for the first two months it was a total struggle. I didn’t think it would ever get better but we kept going and it became such a joy! So if any moms are struggling. Keep going and ask for help! Keep going Anjelah. Your experience is more common than you think. We’re not alone! Much love to everyone.

Dont give up, breastfeeding is an beautiful sacrifice. Definely worth it, hydrate yourself alot and always have snacks around you. When i did it i had alot of negative comments in the beginning from people without knowledge or experiences. Just keep going ❤ . The milk production changes , and if you baby get sick the color will change, it is an amazing learning process and journey. My 2 boys are healthy, the hard part was stop nursing them after 2 years old. Now they are bigger.
