Seider's hits should be studied in hockey coaching. They are absolutely textbook, clean hits that are precise, not overtly hard to cause yourself injury, & contribute to the play in a meaningful way.
I agree completely and well said. Notice how quickly Seider pounces when the opponent puts his head down. It's like a shark with blood in the water. He knows that hit will be effective the second the guard is down. He doesn't go for the big hit in a compromising way. "Intelligently physical" is maybe the best way to put it. I'm happy he's on my side, I know that!
Well, guess who had been practicing these hits with him? Yep - Kronwall. And the league knows what "kronwalled" means pretty well so no, nothing to study here :D Just learn from the best.
Having this guy is the best thing about being a Detroit fan right now. Really hope they get make some good runs at the Stanley cup in the next few years while he enters his prime
Wings look 100x better than last season. I think this team can be a top 2 team in the Atlantic at least. Raymond and Seider are improving everyday, DeBrincat is looking like the best guy in the league and the goaltending problem is basically gone from looking at the first 4 games.
Watching him so far this pre season has been really exciting so far. Clearly an excellent player, super excited how he and Walman play in the regular season.
The big problem with Seider is his value - his next contract will need to be very large to keep him in Detroit, and he becomes a RFA at the end of this season. I'm assuming Mr. Y has a plan to keep him where he is without breaking the bank.
It`s very seldom that a big guy like Seider has this skating ability and that hands, that mobility, that physicality and that hockey IQ. Usually players lack at one or two fields and are not as complete as Seider is already. Though he`s still a young D, he plays the game like a veteran, reads plays well and is seldom out of position or gets caught. He`s a bit underated due to the NHL having tons of quality young Ds at the moment. Makar, Dan Fox, Heiskanen, Wrenski, McAvoy, etc. So many good young Ds in the league.
Comparing him to the all-time greats? Largely due to the pandemic, Seider played in Sweden in the 2020-21 season, where Nick Lidstrom could see plenty of his games. Lidstrom's observation: "He's better than I was at that age".
It will be very interesting to seeif Det goes to the next level this season. They feel like they could but they feel like a weird version of the Seattle Kraken. Deep in depth but not in that player to take them over the top. Also they are in a very tough division. Stev always I felt received undo credit with Tampa and so far with Det seems to be collecting depth but very similar players. Anybodies thought on this is apprecited as I could be off.
He's knocking down grown men. LOL He's perfecting the Datsyuk "check" on the boards too. Hedman was a crucial piece of the Lightning's Cups. Yzerman is smarter than everyone else. I'm glad that both of them are on my team. GO WINGS!!n
As a Rögle BK fan I got to say I am very proud to see his progress over there. You’re looking at a guy with the potential/ combination of Niklas Lidström, Kenny Jönsson, Niklas Kronwall etc. And he is only 22 years of age. In a year or two he might as well be the best defenseman in history👏
Kronwall's hits were more like assault where Seiders are often self defense, AKA reverse hits. Kronwall would look for players that were moving the puck and he'd hit them in their blind spot. He probably caused some permanent brain damage in a few players. Who was quietly a reverse hit specialist, Pavel Datsyuk. So I'd like to think of Mo as being the best of Lidstrom and Datsyuk.
Kronwall’s hits were clean. Because players were often hurt is on them, not Kronwall. He’d line them up down the wing, where they were skating with their head down. The first rule you are taught as a kid, in hockey, is to keep your head up. If you’re playing with your head down and get lit up, it’s on you.
@@ValhallaRaven That's the narrative: His hits were clean and they only occurred when players were excessively skating with their heads down. If you watched Kronwall he frequently left his feet and he nailed players who were collecting a bouncing puck and/or turning to move up ice. Football is well ahead of hockey on protecting players in vulnerable situations which isn't surprising as NFL got helmets figured out about 40 years before the NHL.
@@gabrielidusogie9189just to chime in here. It largely boils down to just watching the game of hockey for a long time. You'll start to identify attributes of players that are highly coveted and just plain special. I’d say both Seider and Byram are well above average with the potential to be great. Byram’s only issue has been his health but when he’s been on the ice, he’s phenomenal and was a bigger part of the Avs winning the cup than most think.
@@MaiettaSportsMedia I think we have different definitions of what being in his prime means. For me it's a player that is playing better each season and taking a bigger role on the team. They are moving up. Those are the "prime" years of a player. They plateau when they've hit the consistency of a day to day NHL player. That's when coaches and the league know what the player is and what to expect out of them. After that it's about trying to be consistent for the back end of their career until their body or skills degrade.

Last season, he was a defensive liability. He would get out of position and leave Chiarot out to dry. He needs to mature a little more, but I hope he steps forward this season.
@@MrGroyper No... If you watch their play, Chiarot was playing his zone and Seider would vacate his to chase the play leaving his side open. Chiarot would them have to retreat back to cover, but it would be too late. You would see him go over to Seider and tell him he needed to protect his zone first or make sure it was covered. A lot of times he's reverse uno carding incoming hits😂

Seider is taking over the throne from Hedman. Tall, hard-hitting defenseman that is also an offensive power.
