Thanks for watching! Are you ready to start shutting down forwards all over the ice? How are you going to use these elite defense mechanics to level up your game? Let us know in the comments below!
Ive been playing club hockey for 4 years now and not once have any of my coaches mentioned anything similar to what you have taught me thank you and keep up the amazing work
This channel is fantastic. The subscription is worth it. I periodically work on hockey and have been playing for 17 years, starting in my mid 20s. Never stop learnin!
Jason, you have some of the most _unique_ and _amazing_ ice hockey training content on UA-cam! I’ve been involved with the sport for over five decades, and the minutia you point out is simply mind-blowing (and, of course, extremely helpful and effective)! It’s almost like a surgeon dissecting and explaining every little step of a procedure. You deserve so many more subs! Please keep up the good work, and Happy Holidays!! 🎄
All that is really good but when you play with better and very fast forwards you are going to want to do backwards skating much more consistenly in order for you to keep up much more and so that they dont accelerate and start skating much faster catching you of guard. So doing backwards crossovers more consistenly is gonna give the forward a much harder time getting past you and all that, but just my expirience and opinion and i think what you show is especially great for the youth/young defencemen who needs to learn the basics
My ten year old just switched from center to left d. He has never played D before. I'm gonna show him these two vids. I think that he would understand most of this stuff. Great job!
cant find the "how to play defense pattern" video. I know i've seen it before. starts out with facing the boards crossover at the offensive blueline. love your work!
@@Train2point0 I did! The last move, "the lunge" has been around for a while. We call it the "90 degree stepout". I think you're just emphasizing the outside edge more?
God, thats so subtle. I need to get more speed on the crossover, I started as a goalie, so what you're saying totally makes sense, but it's like a race to the dot to see if they can get around me.
Great video, but I would like to ask if there could be video about shuflle technique, because I was struggling with it. Thanks anyway, excellent content.
Great video. How about doing something on the shove? I get away with shoving players with my hands, especially if I'm about to get beat at the last second. It's very effective knocking guys just off balance.
The question i have for non contact leagues is when the forward takes the 90 degree from the dot and is going hard to net? In my younger days it would have been bury them in the near post. But non contact requires restraint. How can we defend this scenario? Been a discussion in our league for a while. Any suggestions?
Right off the bat, you show 2 of the least defensive minded defencemen in the NHL, kinda funny! Also, check out Paul BOUTILIER - "Slower Coaching for Faster Results" video; especially in regards to posture. Makar has bad posture in the first clip, and was mostly luck that he actually poke-checked the puck away... Just my humble opinion, you have no reason to read what I'm putting down as legit or not... Good stuff though!

When you are corkscrewing backwards you aren't having your weight on your heels or you would fall over backwards?

I appreciate that! Thanks for the kind words.
well summarized what I want to say.

Truly the best hockey skating instruction. Join the the program.
Appreciate that, keep up the great work as well.
Excellent. A figure skating coach taught me the "waltz-step" for backwards speed and agility, which is a version of the backwards corkscrew
Awesome, great mechanic to have in your tool bag!

Exactly.
I’d never heard of that poke check hand switch. About to play in a game wish me luck!
Haha kill it!
Pretty cool! You have any defencemen stick mechanics to add in or « approche au porteur » tricks?
Potentially coming in a later video for UA-cam down the line.
Great video, but I would like to ask if there could be video about shuflle technique, because I was struggling with it. Thanks anyway, excellent content.
Glad you liked it! Lots of in-depth content, drills and video coaching on our website www.train2point0.com
This is gold.
Thanks alexy 👍
Love these. Defensemen approved!
Glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.
Would I need to be matching there speed going backwards so they can’t take off once they get around me?
Very nice video, good concise training here SUBSCRIBED
Thanks and you are very welcome.
Great video

Bro could you do the backward soft drag when you were playing in Powell River ?
The good old days!

Stick on puck.

My other job is to tease the offenders stick....all the time and make it really annoying for them to shoot.
Love that.
