  • Metal Detectorists have to make a lot of quick choices. Tides move quickly and the time that is optimal to swing is when the swim area is uncovered. Where do you go? With a limited time (knowing that the tides move everything) what do you decide?
Hello, my name is Merrill Kazanjian and I am a metal detectorist. This is a teaching channel where you will learn metal detecting techniques and gain knowledge. My channel, Metal Detecting NYC is a good place to learn metal detecting 101 on youtube.

I am a teacher and my channel will show you how to metal detect for beginners all the way through advanced techniques for metal detectorists. I am the owner of a Minelab Safari Metal Detector, a Garrett AT Pro (at pro metal detector youtube), a WOT coil and I can teach you how to recover the deepest of targets with a metal detector. My metal detecting finds include many gold and platinum rings and early American coins as well as British Colonial coins and Spanish Colonial Coins. Metal detecting is a hobby that millions of people around the world do. All you need to try is a metal detector some batteries, a digging tool and some patience. My first metal detector cost 30 dollars at BJ's and I dug enough signals to buy my first "real" metal detector with the change that I found with the 30 dollar toy model. I decided to start Metal detecting on UA-cam because I feel the need to teach what I know. It has been a life changing activity for me and I want to share what I know. It is my hope that Metal Detecting NYC can become one of the biggest metal detecting youtube channels. My beach instructional videos include (or will include soon) , "metal detecting dry sand", (choosing a) "metal detecting sand scoop" and "surf hunting". On land, I use the website historic aerials to survey the history of a site so that I can continue metal detecting old homesites and other places with a lot of history. Subscribe to my channel to see my metal detector finds for 2019. You're becoming The Quarter Hoarder New Yorker 😂
I like all of the information that you give us concerning tides and sand movements. I never think about those two things in conjunction with debris movement on shore 👍 Great info Merrill ☺

LOL, you are the first metal detector to mention peeing while detecting as finding a place to do it is a huge factor in a lot of urban beaches with a lot of people and few places close by to go to.

One time there was a lightning storm and I totally understood that. But in some places New York treats it’s citizens like children. You can’t be in the water before the lifeguards supposedly.

When do you normally have to stop beach hunting because of the cold? Have you applied the Equinox 2.01 firmware update yet? The new F2 setting seems to help with bottle caps. Those Minelab equinox branded waterproof headphones are kind of pricey at $150. I think I would rather have the Gray Ghost Amphibian II version at $160 though.

Cold does not bother me. I stop (and cry) when they dredge. I’m gonna add f2 this morning.

Merrill look like the 15 inch coil..whats your opinion is this a must for the beach for covering ground quicker ? Great video I'm finally hitting older ones I missed and was thinking about a 15 just this past week..on the fence. I value your input !

Kicked out of the water? Was it a safety issue? Usually (at least here in Canada) property / park rights end at the high tide line.

  • @johnhiggins9020

Why did you get kicked out of the water, is it illegal to detect in the tide?
