How to sound like Lars Ulrich:
Step 1. Buy a really expensive kit.
Step 2. Don’t bother with practice, you are now Lars Ulrich.
Also have a second bass that is a waste of space

Also, and I can’t stress this enough - Don’t put ANY effort into tuning your snare.
Also buy 2 bass drums but only use one and get a snare that sounds worse than Shawn Chahans Keg

This was my first drum kit. The stock cymbals got bent and the drum heads broke after one evening of jamming.

Why don'ts you exclude a "house kit" from the budget and focus on cymbals, snare and tuning? Probably more real world than just picking the cheapest kit in the shop and playing some Metallica songs on iy

Are the heads really cranked up that high for the bass drum? I’m blown away by that. I thought you wanna go like just above wrinkles or else you get that super toney ring sound ....

as someone whos kit is a roadshow, i can promise you i hated the snare and cymbals and they were the first thing i replaced
Need a budget of at least 1000 to get anything truly done. That's guitar or drums. Kit sounded surprisingly fantastic lol (for the price) but that extra 500 would have allowed for a decent set of cymbals and Mayyyyyybe heads

To be fair, the cymbal does sound oddly similar to the zildjians he uses live, whenever they play live the cymbals seem to sound super dry, and when the cymbals in question are bright A’s, that dosent really make for a very good sound

I really like the concept of this series and I hope you continue to develop it but I think this budget you’ve set kind of defeats the purpose of even trying. If all you can afford to do is buy the cheapest drum set you can find that has no sonic advantage or interest to the artist and a double pedal then don’t bother.
I’m not sure what it would take but I’d love to see this video one with maybe 1500-2000. I get it that is may not be as much of a challenge to find value but I’d rather see a conscious choice of product that has some justification other than it was dirt ass cheap
