Carwardines was the coffee shop in Weston-S-mare, roasting their beans and pumping it into the High Street to encourage people to come in. There was also one in Bristol . One thing I used to love about Bristol was the smell of the Courage brewery as you could smell the malt, which was reminiscent of Shreddies!
'Hunger Games' must be some kind of hypnosis trigger phrase. I have tried to watch this three times and each time Rich gets to the part when he says, "Hunger Games" I fall asleep. Ironically, I went to the premier of that movie and contentedly slept through the whole thing - because it was dog shit. Hopefully, it won't happen this time around because I find RHLSTP anything but!
Oi Rich sort your Emergency questions app out! Was in an area with no internet connection and tried to use it and it wouldn't let me access any of the packs I bought!! I expect this kind of dubious practice from Stewart Lee but not you!
Haha yeah if the apocalypse happens how am I going to ask all the mutants if they would rather have a ham hand they could eat and survive upon, or an armpit that dispenses sun cream to stop the radiation further changing there genetics to evolve a tit that dispenses talcum powder.
LOL that response was epic! Cheers for the giggle that I didn't get from asking my mates emergency questions because of the DRM on an app that only the hardcore Herring fan-base is going to pay for. I spent over £20 on all the packs and to have it not work without being online is pretty shocking! Still they have my money now what do they care.
Wouldn't you ask them by remembering the question? The problem will come after that when you don't have any emergency questions not committed to memory to follow it up and there's an awkward silence.
In that case yes, but that would be the only one I remember and there is only so many times you can ask the same question before everyone becomes bored by it. Right Richard?
18:40 "It's all still here!" is more than reminiscent of Louis CK explaining his daughters' excitement at waking each morning: "Daddy look, it's all still here!" Can't remember now which special it was, Hilarious or Live at the Beacon.
The smell of coffee is a good one for the hate > love. I've always said that the celebrity who I am most like is you Richard Herring. From the similar age. Had our kids at similar ages. Girl then boy etc. I've always questioned the validity of science regarding what came before everything, that you touch upon in certain conversations. Politics wise we're polar opposites I suspect. But then you can't have everything. AND I've never worked with Stewart Lee. (That I can remember. Though I was drunk for a sizeable portion of the 80's/90's. so you never know..)
I wanted to let you know that I loaded this episode and forgot as I was playing online scrabble, only to have you actually make me physically jump at the full volumed HELLO at the beginning. I too have had a thumb tack right to the hilt into my big toe, but it was my sister's fault as it was on her bedroom floor. Also, I am mortally ashamed by the memory that in Grade 3, I placed a thumb tack point up onto my deskmate's seat because he was so annoying. I don't think it impaled his butt. Another point is that I think I just tried coconut licorice allsorts. They were ok. But they are orange, yellow and green coloured. Finally, for now, I find tipping point to be a good antidote to my insomnia.
Wasnt Frankie Boyle's most recent show a netflix special?(which came out before Katherines). Maybe it wasn't but Craig Campbell says it is at the very start of it? Edit: This is just a pointless pondering of mine. Not trying to detract from her, i thought her special was great
You do keep producing sperm your whole lives but they do produce less as they get older, after around 50, and its motility is also not as good. But yes, 90 year old men are still producing sperm and can have kids.
I just don't get it-Ryan is sharp and sassy and seems to be intelligent. And yet I am yet to find anything that she says to be funny. She's on so many shows and just seems to make statements that tail off and......that's it. I think I might be waiting a while to see her comedy talent come to the fore.
Tattoos are under the skin. But if you get tattoos on your hands they'll come off within a couple of years. Tattoos are in so many cells and you have so much skin but it's true that your whole body is not replaced every 7 years, like the guy in the audience said your brain cells don't get replaced and there are others too that once you lose them they're gone. Like teeth and some tendons like the discs between the bones in your spine. Unfortunately those don't grow back. I guess only healthy cells are replaced or we'd be able to grow new limbs.
Vaguely similar accent to Joan Rivers??? The consumate New Yorker? And an eloquent Ontarian? Silly, they don't sound anything remotely alike, oh Richard...🙄
@@Herring1967 Long comment alert! If you would like to take the time, I'm all ears. How wonderful that you read these comments btw! This was an especially charming r h l s t p. It's just dawning on me that I am being too literal but I study and collect accents and languages and dialects - for my own amusement and not impirically. A Yorkshireman sounds nothing like a Welshman or somebody from Dorset or Leicestershire to me, not even vaguely so your accent comment really surprised me! We Torontonians are often told how non- descript, flat and uninflected we sound, and our accent is frequently cited as received North American if you know what I mean. Neutral/ international North American English. Incidentally I'm so glad you produce these podcasts and you are my favourite Taskmaster competitor - after Tim Key 😉
Katherine was talking about a fondness she had for him as a child, arguably the primary audience for his work. She can retain this fondness when viewing his current work in a nostalgic context or with her daughter.
Yeah she can do what she wants, some of those things may or may not result in her losing my respect. Something I'm sure she never knew she had or cares for regardless. I'm a similar age to her, I've always hated Adam Sandler.

Great chilled out chat. Nice one Richard
This was an excellent show! Ryan came across super-well for me. She seems like a very genuine person and surprised me in a good way. Nice one, Rich!
I'd never heard of Katherine before, but she's great. This was a really entertaining and fun episode! Thanks Rich.
Really enjoyed this, thank you. Will donate to the next kickstarter for sure!

Bob Hope best comment ever.
how bloody weird- i hated that smell as a kid (down by bristol bridge ) but now quite like it ?
I remember the tea pots in Cowardines! They could almost fit in a brief case XD ... memories!
@@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE No, but Bob Hope does.
@JONATHAN SUTCLIFFE Bob Hope is the user name of the comment you replied to. Full disclosure, I know him irl. :)
Hate-fucking Rees-Mogg to death was a high point.
Richard, Thank you for these interviews.
I genuinely think Katherine Ryan is in another league to most mainstream comedians. She could go anywhere her.
Top notch, triple grade A, solid gold. Thanks.
You’ll never stop me taking my tube shortcuts, Herring. Never!
I went to the Cardiff Gig as a replacement boyfriend. Almost collapsed with laughter.
The "John" was Alan Johnson, the footballer was Jimmy Bullard.
Thanks for respecting their privacy 🙄
(That was a joke about the fact that it's embarrassing to be on tipping point in case that wasn't clear)
See you tonight live in Dublin!
great stuff.
shes fabulous -great show ,thanks
37:32 That accent is terrifyingly good.
Killer guest today, just love it
Fabulous ☺
I think the mystery John on Tipping Point is John Simpson. Not an MP, but he was on WILTY? with Katherine.
What a cracking lass Katherine is I'm a big fan
More Windy Miller chat please.........
Nice conversation.
maybe the best podcast you have done.
David B. Don't know what it is but the podcast's with female are often the best (Pascoe, Millican in particular).
Good good 🤣🤣
Daywine! Fighter of the Nightwine...
Huzzah. The first Katherine Ryan interview was my introduction to RHLSTP, we have come full circle :)
Erica Borland she's fantastic and her Dad is a Corkman (bonus)
Katherine was on Would I Lie To You with John Simpson the political journalist, that might be who she's thinking of
Bloomin love this lady.

Christmas has come early!
...orrrrr you did! :D Bahahahaaaa!
I love Sarah Pascoe too 😍
I just watched the podcast with her.

And yet, it's not
i love this lady

I'd say London, Ontario is the London of Canada.
such a smart woman razor sharp
Have you ever tried to get Ade Edmonson Rich?
Yes!
I think Ade Edmonson is already rich
That would be a great episode!
He’s dead
Cornybeef He ain't.

She's hilarious.

Like most of the prominent comediennes she is mildly amusing.
Mark Terence far better than the likes of your Sarah millican or her other contemporaries.
Some of these just really work and click - this one is one of them. The last Limmy one is another example. I'm not sure what it is.
Sweet!

It probably depends on the brand of allsorts too! I am not colourblind, those were the only colours in my packet.
Wow, that flew by.
it is a fairly short episode
1 hour 9 minutes about average. It was a very easy conversation to listen to.
most of the ones I watch are about 1.3O
James Acaster has a special on Netflix.
Yup, but not when we did this interview
Ohhhh Richard has an apple Watch (?)
I was listening to this, and stopped because who was on The One Show on BBC1 (UK) this evening.
'skelington'
John Simpson?
Anyone know who Ryan's cheating ex was?
Dane Bowers
James Corden
Oh dear god, that would be terrible if true
What a big shit of a man turns out to be an even bigger shit than originally thought?
No I mean terrible in general because Corden is a shit
Holy shit pour her half the bottle ….

I like her.
Though, she is a little bit SJW.
I don't watch her stand-up, she's good on panel shows, cats, countdown, etc.
As I said, she is a bit SJW. (Ace Venture is not a hate crime)
Your point being?
The Earth is flat, that's the point I was making.
being a bit SJW is directly a good thing.

Katherine Ryan was dating Kim Jong Un?
PSY from Gangnam Style fame.

Are they actually talking about Adam Sandler seriously as if he's a good comedian?? I'm confused, all respect for Katherine suddenly lost.
Katherine was talking about a fondness she had for him as a child, arguably the primary audience for his work. She can retain this fondness when viewing his current work in a nostalgic context or with her daughter.

Mr Herring openly talks of his obsession with him and acknowledges his talent, have you lost all respect for him too?
That was lost a long time ago haha
what's a matter mate never seen Little Nicky?

Why does she always wear so many clothes?? 😂 I joke of course, she's a gem. Very intelligent AND funny.
