You certainly know your southern traction well (73 and 205 reviews), I find them very useful as I'm shifting towards the NSE era on my layout so thanks for sharing and keep the reviews coming.
There's another reason that the driver didn't respond to the bell with 'two on the bell' the only bell switch was in the guards compartment. Some drivers responded with two buzzes on the intercom. I didn't. I figured that if you set off it was a pretty good indication to the guard that you had heard the bell ! I was based at Tonbridge until 1987
exactly my point. i'm from Tonbridge too, but was a driver at Eastleigh and Hoo Junction with EWS later in my career. i started in 1987 as a rolling stock fitter
The Bell Code was always supposed to be responded to according to the Rule Book but on the South Central standards weren't great so it was common to ignore the guard and just set off. It would be nice to hear the train-heat on as that made a huge difference to the sound on departure but it appears nobody has that. I didn't realise the roof conduit was wrong and I drove them for years to Uckfield but I did notice that mine is badged as a 3H. Of course, we did have a 3H that became a 2H when speared by a tree in '89 but I don't think it was 205001, the one I have. Still a very nice model in any event and thank you for sharing. Cheers!
47606odin Thanks for clarifying the conduit issue. I suppose the issue was DOO. Some drivers, freed from the second man in the cab years before were suddenly free of a guard too and then, on occasion expected to respond. I digress, you have a wonderful sounding model there. Cheers! Buzz Buzz
Hi, You may just be the man I'm looking for! I'd love a hampshire set in 00 as I used to train spot them in Portsmouth Copnor from the stone bridge in the very late 70's. Please can you tell me what units I spotted. I was only 10'ish and all I remember was the full yellow ends and black triangle. If the correct set is made for my time, I'd be all over it ! Many thanks for any help.
hi, the units you saw were 'hampshire' 3H units. this is the 2 car (2H) version that Bachmann make. Bachmann unfortunately never produced the 3 car version, but i made a 3 Car 3T unit, which also ran in your area. have a look at my other video's, you should find the 3 car version
To add a 416 DTS into a 2H will change the class to 204 3T. The unit needs renumbered to 204002 (1402) the DTS needs to be renumbered to 77508 added in 1980
I cant understand why Bachmann just don't make a centre car on its own to add to these. Is there a technical reason for this do you think or just plain economics? An excellent video anyway, enjoyed it.

+Neil Favell hi. i am glad you find them useful
Great Sound remember the Thumpers in the Early 1980s from East Grinstead to London Bridge 🔊
I remember them as a kid around Tonbridge, and worked on them in the 1990’s at Selhurst
Great review I've just ordered a Green one for my next project down South in 2020.
hi Andy. well, now you have moved, we just have to wait for you to get organised and see what you come up with....of course, not forgetting SMS

yes, i am aware of the renumbering i have to do. its all in hand :-) and the conversion project has started

I remember the 3H version that ran between Salisbury and Portsmouth hope Bachmann will release in 3H.
from the conversations i have had with Bachmann, its not viable, so won't be happening. so don't hold your breath
Hi I have the same unit but fitted with LoK Sound can you tell me where I can get a Legomanbiffo sound decoder as this one is just rubbish
Hi Peter. You get them via DC kits website. Hope that helps
