  • Production samples of Key Publishing’s latest limited edition of Class 40 40145 East Lancashire Railway have arrived from Bachmann including factory sound fitted versions. Pre-orders are open now at www.keymodelworld.com/shop.
The ‘OO’ gauge model is due to arrive in stock this summer and is available to pre-order now with a £10 deposit at Key Model World Shop. Prices are set at £229.95 for DCC ready versions and £329.95 for DCC sound fitted models.
The Class 40 models preserved 40145 in the BR large logo blue livery which was carried by the English Electric 1Co-Co1 in 2007-2010. It carries printed East Lancashire Railway nameplates with etched replacements in the box.
The specification includes a Plux22 decoder socket, two 15mm x 11mm cube speakers, directional lighting, new tooling for the high intensity lights and more. A five-pole motor with brass flywheels provides drive to both bogies.
A full video sound demonstration for 40145 is available to watch here and both versions are available to pre-order with a £10 deposit from www.keymodelworld.com/shop

Hi don’t want to be negative but the gap between the bogies and the bottom of the body looks massive.
Checking against photos the gap looks well over scale.
Other than that looks and sound awesome

I was going to say the same, that gap looks massive it looks particularly bad near the buffer beam

Looking at real photos I agree with you there, the gap is horrendous!

Unfortunately certain angles accentuate the gap which is there to facilitate operation on model railway curves.

I think the gap is exaggerated because of the camera angles. Didn’t notice it when they had the livery sample at Deeping show

I got this Class 40 a month ago with Factory Sound. Because I don't have a layout I still have to run it and listen how it Sounds.
It looks terrific and the gap is no larger than two other Class 40's I have.
I also have a Bulleid 10201 with Legomanbiffo Sound from Kernow which has similar bogies but hardly any gap (silver & black).
It looks a bit like a "compressed" Class 40 but the differences are there just like the similarities.
Both loco's not cheap but no regrets at all !

Tne detail sounds are really good but the running sound is quite 'plastic box' sounding to me. I also noticed that gap, operational compromise ??

Thanks for the feedback. The gap is for operational reasons. We can look at a sound upgrade article for the Class 40 if there is interest?

What is it with the nose ends? They look like they are floating above the wheels. The previous models never looked like that or had that problem. Think Bachmann need to look into that problem. And if they want us to purchase the over priced model they need to make it value for money instead of labeling it as a limited edition.

These latest 40s actually sit lower on their bogies than previous ones!

well, you can't be blamed for that; 'Tractors' and 'Whistlers' look very similar, after all.

Whistle gave it away as a 40

The largo logo livery is another strong link to the Class 37s. 40145 was the only one of its class to be painted in this colour scheme, and only in preservation. It appeared as per our limited edition between 2007-2010.

It's a model railway it has to function on the layout.
