Jesus, Brennan. I haven't heard a creator this open about the creative process in a while. It's refreshing as fuck. I love the insight into the back-end of other people's productions.
Fun fact: Asmodeus has multiple spellings and pronunciations in mythology, from Ashmodai to Asmoday, so almost any pronunciation is valid.

This is a great chaser to the ExU DM Roundtable, getting specific insights from Brennan into Calamity.
It always seems to be the genuine, giving, folks who are the most TERRIFYING DMs, lol. It makes sense though, you can't really tell great stories if you don't have the trust of the table, because the players aren't going to hand over the beating heart of their character for you to play with unless they trust you. Brennan (and Aabria, and Matt, and other brilliant folks too) seems like the sort of person who would engender that kind of trust... and then CRUSH THAT HEART LIKE GLASS AND GRIND IT INTO YOUR OPEN WOUND... *ahem* I mean. He's very good at what he does.
I hope we get to watch him play his evil robit in Exandria one day, that would be a-mazing
Brennan famously said one of his goals in a campaign is making his players cry XD

When Brennen was talking about planning calamity with a runway of 4 episodes, and having to figure out how to land the plane: in my head, I imagined Brennen flying a plane, but not actually flying a plane, brennen improvising what it would look like to try to land a plane with his own sound effects on the set of critical role which immediately made me laugh.
Reminds me of a prompt from when Brennan was on Game Changer doing the sound effects battles

I imagine him like spinning lots of little wheels to open valves to some archaic or non-existent tubes in a plane, or taking different cores from one machine into another.

(1) I think your pronunciation is a perfectly valid one (and one that I as a native english speaker used for ages before hearing the """right""" pronunciation). (2) speaking ESL is boss and don't let anyone get you down for it. speaking more than one language is like fuckin superhuman mind shit. idk if brennan mentioned this at some point while talking to you but he's been learning spanish for a few years and 100% appreciates how difficult it is to learn/speak a language different than your native one.

Agree a thousand percent! Mispronouncing words is the most understandable thing in the world, and your original pronunciation was the one I used at first as well ^_^
@@BrickInTheHead And adding on to that, doesn't the name come from Jewish mythology anyway? Which means the "true" pronunciation (if you can call it that) would actually be closer to Oren's if anything, haha,
Also, the character name is from actual historical myth, and “as-MOE-dee-us” is a completely valid pronunciation of that name.

@@geek_peek I'm running a 5e campaign right now. I've found that my strength is in creating narratives that have lots of moving parts in the background; for that reason my campaigns tend to have a historical flavor with lots of factions and individuals opposing one another. I'm always looking to hone my craft though, in particular working with players to develop their characters and giving the players more opportunities to make important choices, and this interview gave me some really cool insights into that.

The point about the Septarian plot was interesting. My biggest question was why through the whole thing the so called most powerful people in Avalir seemingly didn’t exist. Makes sense that plot thread existed and simply didn’t happen due to character motives and choices.
I think it’s established pretty early that the ring of brass was the only group that actually got stuff done in the city of Avalir. Still, I would have liked to explore to corruption of power in the leadership further :)

Brennan playing with the CR crew would break the table. It would go completely off the rails, like Lord Flasheart every time he appeared on Blackadder, and as much as I'd LOVE to see it, I don't know if it would actually go down all that well. The CR table is way too serious and controlled for someone like Brennan, they could barely handle Bolo for five minutes

I mean we know what Brenana means and he was so explosively brilliant in Calamity from the begining with "Fire" to the way he tied all together at the end with "why do we tell stories". An absolute masterclass in DMing.

TLDR I moved to NZ, had internet that couldn't upload, and then fell out of it. I will probably be starting something up again in the future but it will be me streaming map making for RPG maps :)

Brennan doesn't do that "auteur theory" thing where he gets to just say things and make them canon. Nothing exists as a canonical fact until it happens (or is mentioned) in a game.
I mean, I've made headcanons about things I myself wrote before. Like sure, I wrote it, but that just makes it a little extra fun to come up with some optional fluff

@@geek_peek I'll say this much, c3 has almost the same density of surprises as calamity. Every episode feels like an epic lore drop, plot twist, character shocker or some combination thereof.
i wouldve absolutely loved to have a few more episodes tho with all the characters :)

How can one man have this much talent? Brennan is really second only to Matt, and it’s closer than I ever thought possible.
I don't even think it's fair to call either one second to the other, they have wildy different styles. I personally admire brennan's style more.
Judging two GMs by the same scale is the definition of fair. You can disagree with my assessment but using the same parameters for both people is literally “fair.” Don’t be an idiot. You can be a huge fan and still have a working brain you know.
