If a drunkard or a crackhead strays too far past the yellow line; if someone with headphones on doesn't look both ways at a level crossing; if ever someone is killed by a train in the city that never sleeps, Carl must don his black cap and collect their final ticket.
He still keeps his chipper attitude and treats them like he's just taking them to their seat. It's a dark job, but no need to make those who have departed uncomfortable.

Jacob "He needs one tattoo and it needs to be on of the most basic ass ones you can get." Julia: immediately starts drawing what looks like Jacobs tattoo.
Brennan instantly captured the speech patterns of the NYC guido. Every time he did a voiceover for Vito, I was instantly transported. Absolutely floored me.
Irrelevant to Julia's unique take on it, I really love the idea of a character who seems to know an ungodly range of things from history to culture to games to whatever else they happen to know, but all through secondhand experiences like "my cousin told me-" or "I know this guy who-" Especially for a high charisma best pal type who is just super close to everyone
All the characters are great, but I keep coming back to see the birth of Vito. Because we've all seen the "tough guy with the soul of an artist" archetype, but have we ever seen an artist with the soul of a tough guy? I love it. Vito, use your spells!!!
rewatching this after starting mu transition, it's really nice to see how easily they transfer from "pigeon-man/pigeon-dude/Bert" to "Bernice/she/her" so intuitively. i wish more people were like that
I imagine that Vido got into The Unsleeping City because he was on the Long Island Rail so often he ended up meeting Carl and the two became pretty close acquaintances, which led to him realizing that that giant pigeon that is always outside the stoop and his mah fed a couple times is not a pigeon.
Carl Sedgebee feels like a character who introduces people to the unsleeping city. Like some is feeling sad and alone and goes to the subway to sulk, and Carl walks up, ask for a ticket (which is magically in their pocket Polar Express style), and then brings them on the train and shows them a new wonderous world. Carl just helps people with all his power, no matter how little that power is.
I love these sort of "Drawfee Has Fun Being Character Designers" episodes. So much fun and enjoyment to be had. The fact that each of these characters had such a clear character and comedy bits around em speaks to that.
broke: how do angels do agile flight maneuvers without a tail woke: angels are actually as clumsy in flight as a fly or a bee, because they were the beta test for flying creatures, birds have tailfeathers because god realized that they need them after his angels without tailfeathers were terrible flyers bespoke: angels use their legs and feet in place of tailfeathers, because unlike birds legs which are short and mostly tuck under their body in flight, angel legs are long and hang pretty far behind them in flight, giving them as much control in the air, if not more, than a bird, especially when wearing flippers
I feel like Carl’s train is not a typical MTA subway, but is instead pulled by a steam locomotive that magically doesn’t fill the tunnel with smoke and steam. People for whom it appears are like, “Huh, this doesn’t belong here,” but they get on anyway because they’re overcome by curiosity (DC 15 Wisdom saving throw). Carl appears from the next carriage to punch the ticket that they suddenly have and he welcomes them aboard with a wink and a wide grin. He then leaves the car, but if the passenger tries to follow, they find he disappeared when he left their view.
I imagine it's one of those situations where they're all going after/meeting up etc. with one particular NPC without knowing the other is coming. Like Bernice is waiting to pick up some drugs from one of his MANY dealers (maybe he delivers them, kinda like Pete?), and Vito is waiting because the dealer is in debt to him, and then the dealer takes Carl's train by mistake and Carl has to break up the inevitable commotion between Bernice and Vito.
This video was great btw. The drawings were good, the banter was amazing, the story/lore building worked out well and came naturally, the chemistry with Brennan was perfect. This video is a good example of what the essence of Drawfee is at it's best/finest. The more videos you can make like this, the better, as far as i'm concerned at least.
I'm half Italian and I live 15 minutes away from Queens NY. While I've never actually lived in the city, I can still claim to be an Italian-American from New York. This is why I LOVE Julia's character in this video, because I've met people just like him in real life. I'm also especially laughing at his speech mannerisms and saying words like "Marrone" and stuff like that because that's pretty much my family. XD Also, just on the off chance that this tunrs out useful for someone running an urban fantasy RP/Campaign set in NYC, here's two examples of things I've learned from my various trips into the city. (1) Homeless people know a lot more than their given credit for. If you need to ask for directions and it seems like everyone is ignoring you, you could try asking a homeless person. Just don't be a dick and be sure to give them a little bit of money for helping you, it's the polite thing to do. (2) You will see a wide variety of different types of people in the city. Not just people from all over the world, but people you swear have come from other planets too. And the best part is no one who's a native New Yorker seems to notice or care, they've just become jaded to all the weirdos. This isn't even the strangest thing I've seen in the city, but here's just one example: I was in grand central station coming back from my college graduation at Madison Square Garden, and I found myself directly behind a young woman with a quite large LIVE bearded dragon lizard on her shoulder! It was a very well trained lizard as well, he just sat there and didn't move much, like he was just as jaded to the crowds as everyone else around him. This is why I love NY, because of shit like this. XD
“What, magically, is creating this endless optimism for trains?” Train special interest is creating that endless optimism for trains “Looks like you went a little hard in the paint tonight”

Carl absolutely has the cartoonish capability to be everywhere at once. He'd be driving, taking tickets, possibly handing out snacks, as long as there's only one of him visible at any given moment.
you genuinely don’t know how much i love urban fantasy. when fantasy high and the unsleeping city came out i KNEW this was the d&d podcast for me. absolutely perfect imo.
@@megstubing The best part is that we already know what direction Julia would go in if she was given Gundham. And if they are given any other hints, I can only imagine how much better it would be if she were told about his Four Dark Devas of Destruction!
Man, what wouldn't I give to be able to play a game of D&D with you guys. But since that won't happen, may I suggest you draw film noir birds instead? Like, just birds but in a film noir a e s t h e t i c. You know....some rain sounds to set the mood, a distant saxophone....lots of shadows, smoke, popped collars....A grizzled detective, a hen fatale, the usual tropes...That'd be super rad, I think.
Brennan's Storyteller Vibes have reminded me of what I miss most about having a group of artsy/imaginative friends: just going fucking HAM on creating some weird-ass characters and adding them to an enormous world that's basically just one inside joke. Also the bit between Nathan and Brennan about angels delighted me to the core, THAT is the kind of religious debate I want more of!!!
I just started watching Unsleeping City and I was not prepared for the intense, in fact painful nostalgia a campaign set in New York City run by someone from New York City would instill in me. I left the New York area nine years ago for work and I still miss it.

(binges through 2/3 of unsleeping city)
me: he is brennan lee mulligan, aka all of the bad guys
Can you please do a One Shot with this team?!
Completely agree they would be hilarious
This was awesome! I died at "Vito thinks he's the tank" XD
As a native New Yorker, this video has been both deeply offensive and deeply entertaining. Thank you.
Carl absolutely has the cartoonish capability to be everywhere at once. He'd be driving, taking tickets, possibly handing out snacks, as long as there's only one of him visible at any given moment.
It's been... two years I think. I'm rewatching this video and I only just now understood the opening drawing of Gorgug mug as GorMUG.
that huge rant about angels needing tail feathers sent me
you genuinely don’t know how much i love urban fantasy. when fantasy high and the unsleeping city came out i KNEW this was the d&d podcast for me. absolutely perfect imo.
When you hear "God designed birds" and auto correct to "Grandpa created birds"
Now I'm just imagining a biblically accurate angel with tail feathers and that's cursed.
Rewatching this now that I'm watching Unsleeping City
Please draw Danganronpa characters you've never heard of based on their ultimate talents.
God Julia should draw the ultimate school despair, she's probably just draw a real sad boi XD
I need to see this. I didn't now how badly I needed this, but now I do and it's GOT to happen.
YESSS
My life would be drastically improved if any of them drew Komaeda or Hagakure
@@megstubing The best part is that we already know what direction Julia would go in if she was given Gundham. And if they are given any other hints, I can only imagine how much better it would be if she were told about his Four Dark Devas of Destruction!
8:07 I am absolutely delighted to learn about Ally’s gun demands
Man, what wouldn't I give to be able to play a game of D&D with you guys. But since that won't happen, may I suggest you draw film noir birds instead? Like, just birds but in a film noir a e s t h e t i c. You know....some rain sounds to set the mood, a distant saxophone....lots of shadows, smoke, popped collars....A grizzled detective, a hen fatale, the usual tropes...That'd be super rad, I think.
A HENNE FATALE
YES
I’d love to make a dwarf taxi driver that ferry’s magical creatures around the city with his flying car
as a native long islander as well, julia told no lies AND IM WEAK
Carl is just an autistic child whose special interest is trains and whose mom got him a cool outfit that he wears every day.
i remember watching this video before i knew who brennan lee mulligan was
and now i know.
Brennan's Storyteller Vibes have reminded me of what I miss most about having a group of artsy/imaginative friends: just going fucking HAM on creating some weird-ass characters and adding them to an enormous world that's basically just one inside joke. Also the bit between Nathan and Brennan about angels delighted me to the core, THAT is the kind of religious debate I want more of!!!
the thought of Vido and Carl in the same group is great
Let’s go!! I just got done listening to the shadow fell arc of not another D&D podcast!!!
Can you draw some Pokemon but change their typings???!?!!!!?
Like a grass type pikachu or a ghost type Lucario???
Thanks for everything...
Thank you!
I return here frequently as Carl Sejby is my sole source of serotonin
Since I love drawfee and am IN love with Brennan this is the combo/collab of a lifetime
I've had two years to mull it over and now I have come to the conclusion that this is my favorite Drawfee episode
These were wonderful, I'm in love with a Vito-type bard, bashing every cool item you find. Excellent episode guys!
I just started watching Unsleeping City and I was not prepared for the intense, in fact painful nostalgia a campaign set in New York City run by someone from New York City would instill in me.
I left the New York area nine years ago for work and I still miss it.
I love that as the characters went from very fantasy to very urban, they became crazier and crazier.
