- Unboxing an Ioptron CEM40 Mount
Installing Ioptron CEM40 on 1.5" tripod.
The iOptron® CEM40 mount is the next generation of center-balanced equatorial mounts. This mount is incredibly eye-pleasing, and its beauty is found in more than its appearance. The functionality of the mount is superb. Weighing in at only 15.8lbs., this mount can support a payload of up to 40lbs.! That's incredible!

Thanks for your unboxing video. I'm waiting for my CEM40 to arrive next week and looking forward to enjoy it under the southern starry nights. All the best, clear skies and shine on from Chile.
Thanks Felipe. Enjoy that CEM40!
@@asteroidhunters6628 You mentioned in the video that there were 2 port to power it on but didnt explain which one was used . Does it use 2 power supply adapters or something ?
Do you think this is a better buy over something cheaper like the EQ6R Pro? They both are in the same weight class, but one significantly cheaper than the other. The CEM does have some handy things included like iPolar, but I have no need for one. My main scope is an edgeHD 800, btw.
the amount of weight they can carry is likely similar, the win might go to the EQ6R Pro. Both will do great at something the side of your Edge HD. the EQ is also close to $600 or more cheaper. that’s where the advantages for the EQ6R Pro stops however... the CNC design of the iOptron mount is an entirely different technology that has smoother motion, space for internal cabling of all your power lines, a USB hub, built in GPS, built in iPolar, and... weighs less than HALF the weight of the EQR6 Pro yet has more capability. it really is a step up... but its like a luxury car... it still gets you point A to point B and a solid Honda Accord like the EQ6R Pro will get you there just the same. are you willing to pay for the fancy features and incredibly light weight is the question you have to ask yourself...
Hi i do have problem with the axis whenever i move them with remote I hear the movement sound but without moving so there is any screw i need to take off ?
Hey Hunter, I just got my CEM 40 mount. I am looking forward to trying this out. As a suggestion, could you make a video on the iPolar software and how it is used with this mount.
Hi alccopa1fan. That's my plan. I'm currently having issues with drivers controlling the mount. This mount is a little tricky. But I will be covering all that stuff. The good and bad. I'm trying to get something out in the next few days. The weather has been rediculous. It has literally been cloudy for weeks. Only the last few days has it cleared up. Thanks again for your support of the channel.
GREAT TUTORIAL. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Hi Hunter I am waiting for my CEM-40 thanks for the review, want to see what scope you all put on this. I think widefield at best to keep weight down but I am just starting on this road. Clear Skies.
It depends on what tripod you order with the CEM40? They have the option for 1.5inch or 2inch. If you have the 1.5 I recommend smaller refractors like an 80ED. If you have the 2inch then I recommend SCT's like an 8 or even a 9.25 probably would work fine. At least that's what we have found...Enjoy the mount! They are nice
@@asteroidhunters6628 Thank you for the advice, I am leaning towards a Explore Scientific or a Williams Optics 81.
@@DominusObiscum The William Optics 81 would work fine on the 1.5 inch tripod. No Problem. Its very light weight
