Don't panic. The iPolars work well. I've set several of these up and it isn't that hard. Follow the directions, have up to date drivers and it goes well.
Having a lot of the same issues you are experiencing here. glad to know its not just me. We did have to get a powered hub as well, not enough power without that to power all the equipment plus laptop. that helped a lot. Now its just getting the darn thing to plate solve, there must be an easier way. Can be frustrating. Only got the red on the cross once since getting the CEM40. It seems to be a little sensitive there. One little burst of a breeze and it all goes haywire. Back to start over. Practice I guess. Really have learned a lot with your videos. thanks for making them
Thanks for the video, I am receiving my Cem40 mount in the mail soon ! I can’t wait to use this bad boy, and appreciate the non edited video. You never know when something could go wrong in the field due to initial setups and connection issues, so seeing how you dealt with minor problems really helps. Again hats off and thanks for the videos!
HI Brandon. Thanks so much for the comments. The fact is we are using instruments to look at and take photographs of ojects that are millions of light years away. Which is crazy when you think about it. Issues and Challenges are just all part of the process. Just another day in astronomy. Thanks again for the channel support.
I just got my CEM60 with built in iPolar so just getting started. Thanks for the great video! I tried to download the iPolar software but it just brings up my iOptron commander so I guess it's included in that when you buy a CEM mount.
Excellent tutorial. You really showed the hiccups as well. I followed per your instructions and made it through the very 1st time! Thanks again! The only suggestion is that before you start the iPolar Align, get a compass and align the tripod/mount to true North. If Polaris is visible in your view, then it should appear somewhere on your screen when dusk sets it.
Thanks for the vid. I was having some issues with iPolar. Going to try to move the mount around.
Same issue
Great video guys!! Struggling with this stuff for a while with my new GEM28. I think I will be able to polar align now. Clear skies 🙏
Nice tutorial. I wish they could incorporate an android/ios app so there's no laptop/computer needed like the commander software.
Super helpful - thanks! Having had a bit of experience with software GUIs, I think iOptron has some opportunity for improvement but of course the mount is wonderful - just saying. Also a reminder of how helpful it can be to have children.
This is great video. As real as it gets. Thanks for your patience and that extra concern to help amateurs like us.
Thanks for the video, I’m downloading framework and Ascom software as we speak...by the way, what mount do I select if I have the sky guider pro with ipolar?
I am interested in the CEM 40 mount but I use SHarp Cap Pro for polar aligning and am happy with that process. Would it be smart for me to forego Ipolar and skip the issues you seemed to have with it? I am wanting the mount to use for astro photography and hope it would be good for that. My AVX does not autoguide as well as I would like.
I had trouble communicating with the mount as well. My solution was to connect it to a different USB port, one that is POWERED. Once it works, label that port and no problems next time.
Glad you got it working. Let us know how its going with the mount.
I am having problems connecting to the mount, it says camera failed to connect.
just picked up an ioptron cem70g to carry a new RASA 11. i wonder, now that a couple of years have passed on this video, is it worth learning ipolar? of is it just as easy to use Sharpcap’s polar alignment tool?
Thanks for the video. I have this mount and using the manuals, I got the mount to polar alignment. I got the thew cross in the circle, but I was wondering if the position is off, does that mean that the polar alignment is off? additionally, do you also do a one or two star alignment to better align the mount? Good instructions and I went through the same thing, but not as finicky. Thanks again
Hello Alcopa1fan...Yes if the position is off I would believe the polar alignment might be off. If you did get the cross in the circle though you should be good. Also a 2 star alignment will be more precise then a 1 for your goto function. Have fun with the mount and thank you for watching the video!
My iPolar on my GEM28 came mounted sideways. Dose it matter which way it's positioned? Do I need to straighten it?
Thanks,
Drew
I wonder if some of the issues you face with screen redraw has to do with video card, or drivers on the video card. It almost seems like sometimes, the overlay isn't redrawing... by default, most video cards are setup to save bandwidth by drawing only changes, so if the background doesn't change, it doesn't redraw the background all the time. But sometimes, that also causes glitches on the overlay that is changing. So adjusting how the redraw happens might fix a few issues. Might. Not sure it's the problem.
Got my CEM40 a few weeks back.. finding it really hard to polar align the mount! The ipolar software detects 15+ stars at 500 ms exposure and location is also confirmed easily (2nd position is auto confirmed and it doesn’t ask for 3rd position). Problem is that the red dot keeps randomly moving around and isn’t stable.. my alignment is way off :(
Did you ever get this running smoother. I’m going to order the cem40 soon.
Hi, thanks for the video. I own a GEM28 and having trouble with Ipolar. I see you have a Word document that states you need to perform the 3 steps before you can polar align (ipolar rotating). Is that nessesary with the GEM28 as well? There no mention of these 3 steps in the PDF manual that I downloaded. Hope you can help me out here.
It was changed to only 2 positions in 2021. It is the same process for CEM26 and GEM28 as well. But I only had to do it when I first installed the iPolar in the mount.
Great video you did there. Hey I wonder if you had any problems concerning just having the camera connect to the computer? I spent over an hour trying all kinds of stuff just trying to get the camera to even connect to my laptop and finally at 2am I gave up. Pretty damn frustrating not to be able to get to first base with this. Wondering if you had anything like that or if you might have some suggestions? Thanks a lot! Chad
Hello. Thanks for checking out the video...What is it doing when you plug the camera in?? Is it giving you an error of some kind? Also what connections are you using?
I am using the cables that came with it, but not using a hub. All cables come straight to laptop. One thing that’s not
Clear is for example the two ports right vertically next to each other on back of ipolar. I assume you use the Ipolar port? But then again I have tried both. The error I get is inside the Ipolar software. Immediately a small box dead screen center comes up saying camera cannot be connected comes up and doesn’t say anything else.
I have tried turn computer on and off , as well as the mount. But still no banana. You think I need a hub to hit first and then go to laptop? I appreciate the advice a lot. Thanks much! Chad
Do you have wireless connection to the Cem40? Which wifi module is that? Thanks for video.
Hi Zoran. It's actually not a WiFi module. It's a GPS unit that comes with the mount.
V1.07 of the software reduced a lot of the issues you were facing and also fixed some accuracy errors that's sometimes came up
I tried this last night I could not even get aligned with position 1, bloody hell :).
Say “.net” one more time instead of Framework.... 🤣🤣🤣
