Pretty sure 5E does not require the GM to tell you the attack of the creature attacking you and many don't, so you can't really always rely on it for the purpose of Shield spell. And considering how good the spell is it is somewhat understandable that many GMs make casting it a bit of a gamble.
Also DC20 has crits every 5 above the AC(PD/MD), so you actually know that every time you use DC20's Shield you reduce the incoming damage by at least 1(which is huge!) unless it was a miss anyway, of course. But is only for the current attack. On the plus side it is cool that you can do it for someone else. My understanding of the system is a bit basic but I think that is how it works there.

      Thank you for your feedback.
Here is the trigger for 5e (which is what prompted this video):
Casting Time: 1 reaction, which you take when you are HIT by an attack or targeted by the magic missile spell
5e trigger is hit, DC20 is targeted.
Anyway, this video was an addendum to the first video comparing shield in DC20, D&D5e, and Pathfinder 2e. If you haven’t seen that one, I talk about the other things you mentioned in your message.
Thank you again for taking the time to write a long and well thought out response!

I gave a little more thought to my reply, and I agree that it would be up to the DM whether or not they gave you the numerical value of the attack roll. This is what I think you meant with your first sentence.
I roll in the open so I don’t usually think about keeping the numerical value from my players. Im not sure if I have ever played with a GM who kept it secret. Everyone I can think of will say, “23 to hit.” And thats when the caster will use shield in 5e. That is my experience anyway.
      Thanks again!

Thank you! I really wanted to do a video on how useful the help action is in DC20, but I felt it was important to get this addendum out first.
Next “Quick Rest” will be on the Raise Shield maneuver. That should come out Wednesday as well as a live stream as we level Princess to level 2.
Next week Ill try to get the help video out

I see no reason why it couldn't work. Parry is just knocking the weapon off target. Having a second person just means it is even harder because you have two forces you have to compensate for. As far as balance goes, I think it is fine. Shield being limited makes sense because it provides so much more and can be extended.

Thank you for your feedback. I thought it should work.
I run D&D5e, DC20, and Pathfinder 2e, so I have a bunch of rules sets in my head. The 5e player in me remembered that spells of the same name don’t stack and that is similar in DC20.
The Pathfinder 2e player in me knows that in that game you have 3 main bonus types: circumstance, item, and status. Those don’t stack, so if you are behind cover and raise a shield, both give a circumstance bonus so they don’t stack and you just get +2 AC.
I could find nothing in the rules to say that The Dungeon Coach used this Pathfinder rule, but I wanted to check with the audience.
If you liked this video, Wednesdays video is about the “Raise a Shield” maneuver. And next week I want to look at how good the help action is in DC20. I use it extensively with the monsters I run to help inspire the players of how it can be used.
Thank you for Rolling With Us!
