So I was out riding my Honda trx450 today and it was running horrible, sputtering at low rpms and bogging when I punched it, it’s always been a little lean which I’ve needed to change the jets. But today it was so bad I couldn’t ride and it only ran on the choke, and when I got it home I noticed smoke coming from the intake. Anybody have any advice??

Well, no title and someone ground down the VIN on neck, and riveted some Indiana tag on it. So there is no way I'll be able to title it in IL. Been looking for clean frame & title with no luck. I'll probably get it to a point where I can ride it around the block and then sell it. I'm sure someone needs to buy a fully rebuild engine.

Did you figure out why the carb was leaking? I'm looking forward to seeing the future CB750 videos, especially one where you get the carbs tuned and those pesky air mixture screws dialed in.

MatthewMCRepair thanks. Crazy how those carb bowl drain tubes get cracks in them. Luckily I haven't had to deal with that on my CB750 carbs.

I see the bike is kinda smoking

Assembly lube burning off. Also, pipes were full of oil from trying to unsieze engine prior to rebuild. It all burned off :)
What was the cause of this smoke? I just rebuilt my XV250 Virago and it begun smoking like this a few mins after first startup..... :(

Dude all day LONG.
You have 77/78 K carb insulators (boots) which have an ID to large for those early style carbs. They fit the head spigots OK but not the carbs. Get a set of 71 thru 76 K or F insulators. Are you insane starting the bike inside the closed garage ? It has no cat, so this can become very dangerous from the amount of carbon monoxide coming from the exhaust !
