when it comes to the blue ink you have to remember that colours are perceived very differently when surrounded by other colours, so if you showed that blue on its own it would probably look more purple
Herbin’s “Violet Pensee” seems to capture your eyes. I like it better than I was expecting. It’s one of those inks I kept putting off purchasing… I may have to give this ink a go after all…
I could really imagine myself using Violette Pensée ! Also, Sailor Fuji-Sugata looks very interesting, a lot of shading going on apparently. Amazing Amethyst makes me think of Herbin Poussière de Lune (not the same nuance, of course).
That Sailor ink is very interesting! Love that Diamine Violet and Amazing Amethyst! I have several "purple" inks, but my currently "go to" purples are KWZ Gummiberry and Herbin Pousseire de Lune.
Please, tell me, when is an ink not interesting and without redeeming qualities? And Dave keeps pointing them out, even when that is not his intention! At this point I may drown in ink, albeit happily. Oh and I take full responsibility, cannot blame Dave reviews (can I?). Lol…
I love this series! I have Diamine Violet, I love it. I’m usually on the look out for the purple-blue inks. I also own Amazing Amethyst, it beautiful but not my fav. Monboddos Hat by Diamine is also a fav ink, though more of a red-purple, it’s gorgeous and saturated. Violet Pensée is stunning.. the Sailor ink though.. so much shading.
If a blue, purple is what you're interested in, try out Diamine Bilberry. It's blurple in colour. Diamine Grape has nice purple shading. And Diamine Eclipse is a lovely deep, dark purple that comes out black with tinges of purple. Lovely video as always, Dave.
Ah yes I have Diamine Bilberry and do like it but I do find it's more of a Blurple and quite dark. I haven't tried Diamine Eclipse yet as that looked a little more darker/black like on many ink swatches online.
Some lovely inks here and some of them are favourites for me. Violette Poncee sits in a zone where blue meets violet. I love those shades. I couldn't see the purple/violet in the Eclat de Sapphire, but you are looking at it in the real. I'm writing with Akkerman #4 Nassaus Blauw for the next few days. That's very much a blue with violet tones. (Superb shading too). Thanks most enjoyable. :)
Nassaus Blauw is one that I have on my to buy list but since Brexit I just haven't been able to bring myself to order any inks from Europe due to the import taxes and customs fees.
@@PenultimateDave It's a great ink with good shading. But, yes it is very expensive. No, taxes, but with shipping it came in at £27.75. I think there is a lot of marketing with inks. Aniline dyes (which are not so expensive) and water, perhaps with some simple other chemicals added and this one comes in at £550.00 a litre? Compare that to the price of an engine oil with millions of pounds of sophisticated research and development and highly complex additives. I hope you are recovering. It takes time and convalescence. Do take care of yourself. :)
Thanks Dave for the thorough demonstration. I found the amazing amethyst perform well in broader nibs, not great with F or EF. I would have to get the diamine lavender. I liked the saturation here and I prefer that. Thanks for the heads up.
Oh I love the ink comparisons! Which of the purples have you found to be closest to Montblanc Lavender purple? I have been looking for the Lavender purple for years, and am very much looking for a dupe. Thanks in advance for your assistance
I haven't really found much to be almost identical to Montblanc Lavender Purple unfortunately, I'm sure there's one out there but I haven't found it yet.
@@PenultimateDave oh that makes me so sad! I have been searching and searching… but of course cant find the MB Lavender purple to compare. I have to go by the swatches on UA-cam …. Anyway, keep up the good swatching!

Oh it is beautiful. You should get it!
Apparently it was used in French schools as standard blue - seen without comparison, it looks very blue.

Glad you like them!
I so much want to like Monboddos Hat, the name alone, but it is too dark, virtually no purple in my pens. But, I may try another sample.
I like the Diamine Lavender and the Sailor ink. Added to the list of ink samples to order in the future!
I love Diamine Amazing Amasyth, it was my third bottle of fountain pen ink. I will be getting a new large bottle on January '23.
It definitely is a great colour!
Great review! But where was this comparison when I was looking for purple inks last months?! LOL!!!! I like the Herbin Violete Pensee :)

Violette pensée reminds me Waterman purple (it was my first coloured bottle!). Lovely to write with it, but a bit too intense for reading.
Fuji-Sugara looks slightly darker than Manyo Nekoyanagi would like to see those compared.
The Diamine Lavender is my favorite, though the Amazing Amathyst is intriguing 😉.
One of my favourites too!

Plz include waterman mysterious blue in blue inks comparison

Yes the saturation really is quite something along with the sheen.
Hope you are feeling better.

I saw a clip of the cabinet and Rishi Sunak was using a pen with some sort of clip holding it on his index finger. Anyone know what that is?
I have seen him write with a Parker Duofold before but also he has received as a gift an Onoto in May 2020.
