I find the darker purples don't look very purple when I write with them. I might give the KWZ ink shot precisely because it is a bit lighter. Thanks for another good ink video!
The Blueberry Muffin and the Tyrian Purple were my favorite kinds of purple. Maybe not pure purples, but very attractive. Luckily for me I'm not buying inks right now.
I've given a pen to several friends recently, and try to get an ink for them that they'd like. I'd gotten a pen for one friend, and had gotten Imperial Purple for them, based on their past preferred colour. Then they said that they would like blue, now. So I was stuck with the purple until this week, when I gave a Parker 45 to another friend. I asked what colour they'd prefer, and they said purple. So the Imperial Purple has a good home. 😁 I currently have more ink than I know what to do with, so I'm glad I found it a home. I thought they'd like it, and your video reinforced this. Thanks! I understand the sheen thing. I'd gotten an ink that has a reputation for sheen that I have yet to see the sheen. And I've gotten sheen from an ink that doesn't have a reputation for sheen. Regularly. From a new bottle, even.
It's always great to be able to share the ink around, I have way too much ink myself, so finding innovotive ways of using it or sharing it is always a good move.
Thank you so much for doing a side by side of Diamine's Imperial and Majestic Purple. I do have to say that since I have Monteverde's Purple Reign I'm unlikely to get either any time soon, but it's still welcome. Still very much eyeing Tyrian Purple though, because as much as I like true purples, winey purples look nicer on the page.
It would be great if one of these days you would do a Van Dieman's Harvest Series- Eggplant ink review. And maybe the Monteverde Jungle Collection Chameleon ink too. Robert Oster Dark Chocolate perhaps
I have always wanted to see Diamine’s “Imperial Purple” compared to Diamine’s “Majestic Purple”. Thank-you oh psychic one… Lol… I like the look of the “Imperial Purple” swatch, but I like the “Majestic Purple” writing sample more… It does appear darker. Maybe the sheen lightens the “Imperial Purple” writing sample a bit… Diamine’s “Tyrian Purple” surprised me as it looks muted IRL… I didn’t like it as much as I expected to…
Strangely I hadn't seen a direct comparison of the two side by side, so thought it just had to be done between Diamine Imperial Purple and Diamine Majestic Purple. I too think the Majestic Purple writing sample is more darker. It's why when I was on the look out early on for Purple inks and looked at both ink swatches and writing samples I chose Diamine Majestic Purple over Imperial Purple for a number of years, because the writing sample is what I would see when I write with the ink.
It's strange that everyone I've talked to always goes for Imperial Purple over Majestic Purple, and for me it's the opposite. I wonder what the sales look like in terms of volume between the two inks. I much prefer the darker Majestic Purple over Imperial Purple.
I think the Imperial Purple does feel more dry compared to Majestic Purple. Have you tried it in a broader nib perhaps? Or you could always add a toothpick dot of washing up / dish soap liquid into the converter. No more, but that will help lubricate a dry ink. Just put a drop of dish soap onto a surface or saucer or something, dap the tip of the toothpick into it to get a small amount on the tip, then apply that into the converter. You can also do it with an ink syringe blunt needle.

I do like writing with Violets and Purples. It's Murusaki Shikibu Iroshizuku today.
I like the shading in the Gummiberry.
Thanks for this review. 👍
Something about purples I keep coming back to, so inviting!

Ah but that's what we all say about not buying inks ;-)
That tyrian purple looks really appealing to me. I actually put it on a wish list just the other day!
Uh-oh, putting it on your wishlist is a slippery slope!
Nice close up shots, Dave. I loved the KWZ berry. I need that now. 💜🤩

I do have some Van Diemen's ink samples, I'll have to see if I have that colour.

I prefer the Diamine Majestic Purple to the Imperial Purple and is dark enough to cover most use cases.

Great vid Dave! I really like the color of imperial purple but my nibs always feel more scratchy on paper with it.

Great video, as always. Method is awesome. I have Waterman Tender Purple and get awesome sheen on swatch and writing sample on TR 52 gsm. 👍
Thank you Warren! TR 52gsm really is the best!
Lovely
