I like to interpret this song as a representation of death: The repeating chords at the beginning could be taken to represent a swinging pendulum on a grandfather clock. And with the long bass notes, it really sounds like time slipping by. The chaotic and eerie chimes at 4:52 sound almost like the chiming of a church bell and signal approaching death And finally from 5:59 to the end, it becomes very tranquil and ambient, representing the peace and euphoria you would feel as everything ends
And finally I've arrived to... Chronos! The leader of the Titans! The divine ruler of the Golden Age! Bringer of destruction and rebirth! Holder of the adamantine scythe!
Sometimes the impending threat or the remote *possibility* of a it can be far scarier than the threat itself. Mars in a movie is like a jumpscare/fight scene, this is like uncovering a mystery that gets more and more disturbing the deeper you go-- you're not in fight or flight, but you're extremely creeped out. I like when music can convey that, it's not as easy.
At 1515hrs on saturday 22 july 2019 as I listen my eyelids dropped heavily and "heavenly" in a soft gentle motherly cuddly doze.I am old and death not far off.Music food of serenity play on and take me yon with you .
My favorite part about this song is the double basses. It sounds so ominous, and the tone quality is so full and rich. And the end is so depressing (at 7:51 to the end), but that's not a bad thing.
I am a bassist fortunate enough to have played this piece. I can't explain with words how wonderful it felt to listen to the last few minutes from directly on stage.
Oo, that's interesting. I'm gonna need to add that to my music list to listen to later Edit: oh wow, the beginning of that one is unsettling too, actually a little moreso, as it sounds more dissonant.

6:00 - 8:49- Some of the most beautiful sounds I have ever heard.
I agree, it's my favorite part of the entire suite.

man you have a good interpretation and imagination

I was more terrified by this than by Mars, and he's the god of war

If you are talking about the big hole in the rings, that's just Saturn's shadow falling on them.

Me too!
Really? That's interesting. I don't find the end depressing at all - quite the opposite.

Holst was influenced here by the 3rd piece in Schoenberg`s Five Pieces for Orchestra titled "Summer Morning by a Lake".Very similar at the beginning.
Oo, that's interesting. I'm gonna need to add that to my music list to listen to later
Edit: oh wow, the beginning of that one is unsettling too, actually a little moreso, as it sounds more dissonant.
Its my favorite Gorillaz song, Saturnz Barz!!!
Definitively influenced Alien sound track.
Abit from aliens as well

4:53 Sounds like someone finding a dead body in some super old horror movie
1:42
This definitely influenced Doctor Who's music
This sounds like it could've influenced sludge metal.
+cepseudoestnul93 Saturn's shadow blacks out part of the rings if that what's you're looking at.
Ou peut-on trouver la musique comme cette chanson aujourd'hui?
Holy shit the Spirit Tracks soundtrack totally ripped this off.
Is it just me or is there something wrong with the rings on the picture? o_Ô
Our view wobbles over time.
The shadow I presume.
