This motivates me to plan something for my own garage in the springtime. Maybe order a roll-off dumpster to start! I can't remember what it looked like empty, lol.
There is attic above, so we ran Romex from light to light stapling where necessary. There is no need for another box as the back of the light is rated to accept the Romex running to it.
Trying to figure out order. What is the spacing of the lights in the 2 car area ? It looks like there are 2 four foot lights in between? Are you keeping those or removing? Thanks!
We eyeball the ceiling for symmetry then layout the lights based on that. The 2 car area is about 24' wide, we have 3 rows of fixtures from front to back, so the would be 4' from the walls and 8' between each fixture. We have 2 8' lights in each row.
@@ObsessedGarage Thanks- I was trying to figure if it was 20 or 24 wide. Mine is 20 so I will let my🤓 own compulsive symmetric ocd's take over from there!
Curious how many lumens that setup is putting out? Ordered 10 Led high bay fixtures at 14K lumens each and wondering if that will be enough for my 1250 square foot garage?
My garage is just under 1000 sq.ft. I have 13, 12000 lumen fixtures. It depends on your ceiling height and the fixtures you have. These are 8’ long, so that 12000 lumen is widely dispersed and then diffused with the lens.
@@timkinley1779 it doesn’t mention. He seems to do a lot of renovations but none of Matt’s videos mention anything about whether he is an electrician or not
@@kennyc3001 What do you mean by electrician? Practicing and holding some type of certification? He obviously has a background in electrical work by his competence. There is a podcast or a meet the people video session where Mike dives into his background/exposure to different trades. I think he installed pools and worked as a mechanic/installer/project manager for an industrial facility if my memory serves me right. He gets shit done. That's his background to me.
I love the lights and love your garage setup. I also watched your garage tour from a while ago. Question, I’m just getting into detailing and I don’t have any water access inside my garage other than my water heater. I had my contractor run pex from the cold water line of my water heater to the wall adjacent to it so I can mount my giraffe tools pressure washer. It’s been a great setup, the only downside is, the pressure washer stops putting out pressurized water after about 3 sprays of the trigger. I don’t know if a way to measure the PSI, which is what giraffe tools told me to do. Any thoughts you have as to why the water stops being pressurized after 3 sprays of the trigger? Thanks!
You can do them either way. As long as they aren't too far apart, you will get even dispersion. I like symmetry where possible, so this configuration worked best.
Are those the 5k color temp lights? What’s the lumen output on those 8’? I see an 8000 and a 12000 option in the store. Curious just to know a real life example.
Also whole point of having a lighting control system is for scenes. You should be able to get rid of all 3 of those picos for a keypad. Looks way cleaner and you get rid of the 5 gang down to a 3.
This doesn't feel like an Obsessed Garage video. This guy is using Klein wire strippers. On this channel they should only be using the best of the best which for wire strippers is Wiha. I am an electrician and spend over a decade search for a set of wire strippers that last and are comfortable to use. Wiha by far is the best. I just recently bought a new pair after using my old pair daily for over 8 years. After all that time they still worked perfectly but I had ripped the top part of the handle and it was interfering with the lock. Wiha has updated their strippers, but they are still very similar. I hope I get 8 years out of my new pair again With Klein and Ideal I could only get a month or two before they wouldn't cut cleanly through stranded wire and the edges of the blades would hit instead of overlapping like they are supposed to.
@@billybones6129 While Knipex makes some awesome tools their wire strippers just don't do it for me. The main reason is they don't make standard wire strippers. They make a couple of different needle nose pliers with stripping holes and those automatic things that pull the insulation off for you. The automatic style strippers would be great if you do all of your wiring at a workbench, but for field work I have never seen anyone use them. I would love for them to make a stand set, I am sure they would be great.

That cabinet of Lutron gear 😳 WOW.
The garage windows would look awesome with some tint. It would help the AC too.
Chase on the table was hilarious, love him
I’ve learned a lot from Mike when it comes to electrical
The RS is stunning. That’s all I have to say.
Very nice! Excited for the RadioRA series!
Love your garage flooring
11 seconds of GT3 content is better than none.
That’s a serious Lutron haul.
Any difference between the round and square lenses on the Cree LS fixtures besides the look? Which do you prefer in person?
I would like to know this as well.
There isn’t. I have round at HQ and square here. They just diffuse the light, so there isn’t any perceived difference.
How are you wiring multiple rows of lights to a single PowPak? Just wire nut it altogether in a single J-Box?
I need these lights
I'm hoping to put some LED shoplights in my garage this winter, that's kinda the same thing
Was that a vacuum canister with the og label or trash can?
I have 32x24 garage with 8 foot ceilings. What’s the total lumens I need ?
Dang Mike you were quick to throw UPS under the bus when in reality it was Fedex freight
“Quite a bit to install” - Understatement of the year 😂
Are the 3 switches power dictated or preference and do the Cree lights hum on dimmers? Thanks
You could run all of the lights from a single zone and switch if you wanted that. No hum on these.
Quick question, you are just pulling the romex through the ceiling?
There is attic above, so we ran Romex from light to light stapling where necessary. There is no need for another box as the back of the light is rated to accept the Romex running to it.
cool! Thanks!
5 gang box and plate cover, thats brave lol
How do you control lighting when coming home at night through the garage door? Is there some sort of sensor?
Yes, I have the very last row of light programmed to the 5 motion sensor I installed.

It's probably just a faulty pressure washer. Return that thing. It is junk. You want an Active.

How much power do the 4 foot light sections consume?
About .4 amps
Shark dog lol 😂
Can you use a regular dimmer wall switch with the CREE LS lights? Or are you required to use the Lutron Powpak?
No, they need 0-10V Powpak.
What about using Lutron DVSTV-453PH-WH and running low voltage wiring to it from the light?
puppers!
