You absolute legend. I bought a hoodie to tie dye and it turned out to be a poly cotton blend 42% polyester and 58% cotton. You have saved me having to buy another hoodie. Thank you 💚🌈

MINDA! THANK YOU! I was the exact same and couldn't find ANYTHING about dyeing poly fabrics. Decided I would just figure it out myself. I would love to know how it turns out for you - let me know!

Another trick I recently discovered is placing a damp wad of paper towels in the corner of your baking container to keep addition moisture in there. Just make sure it isn't touching the fabric.

It worked! I tried it on 13 yards of aerial silk (100% polyester) with four colors. One geode is a little blotchy, but it’s all good. I couldn’t fit it all in one pan, and the two pans wouldn’t fit in the oven, so I heated them on low on the stove. Thank you so much!! I’m sure I will get better thanks to you!!

There are very few videos of tie dying with synthetic fabrics. I was looking to tie dye a cotton/poly mix uniform and came across your video. Super helpful!
I was wondering if you've ever considered steaming your fabric. Like sprinkling powder or concentrated liquid and placing it on a rack and then steaming in a pot. It would heat the fabric and distribute the dye at the same time.

Heya, Sanh! I am really steaming it when I "bake" it in the oven. When trying to get clear color definition, I think a more dry steam heat is best so I use the oven. When I want a more blended/muck dye pattern, I use a veggie steamer or place a ton of wet paper towels in my disposable tins and follow the same oven method. :)

What time do I put oven to

In an oven at 225°F, set timer for 2hrs. Every 30min, carefully remove the pan, lift corner of foil and apply more steam. Secure the foil down again and return to oven.

Why do you sprinkle the powder instead of mixing powder with water in bottle?
Is one better than the other?

Great questions! Thank you, Shelby. First, the greatest part of tie dye is no method is better than another. It is 100% a personal choice and easily changed between whatever outcomes you are trying to achieve - basically, it just a constant play time!! 😄
The dry powder is a mixture of different color granules that when combined with water, makes a singular color. When you apply the dry powder directly on the fabric, you give those individual colors freedom to break through and become more visible. The streaks and dots of the different color hues give the garment more definition.
      I hope this helps!!
