    This has to be the #1 lawn improvement before/after video I have seen on UA-cam. Awesome job man!
    I had my yard composted today (San Antonio, TX). I'm hoping for the same results. Simular story, clay soil, compacted, contractor tore the soil up building the homes in this area 15 years ago and the ground is still struggling. However, I enjoy a challenge. 😉

      Your ground is struggling likely because the builder took the valuable top soil and sold it off leaving you with garbage. Happens a lot here where I live.

      Heather Sowell - Hi Heather. The service I used did a good job, but I may do it myself next time. It will be cheaper and great exercise. The service I used: Eco Lawn San Antonio (Brad Walser is the owner - great guy btw). Call him @ (210) 316-9444. The bottom line is I wanted to stimulate my soil with micro organisms and he delivered.
      He used a compost that's high in "nutrients" (manure based.. lol) and my grass responded VERY well. I have a variety of grasses; Bermuda and St Augustine. The Burmuda was the greenest I have ever seen it... the St Augustine... not so much. I expect that the extra Phosphorus has a better impact on the Bermuda. I could go on-and-on because it is my pet project.
      If you have any additional questions let me know and good luck! 😃

    Looks awesome. If you want it to be even greener add a little iron. It'll make it a darker green and sort of acts like a sunscreen in stressed times. Try it you'll like it.

    I had to laugh when you mentioned not telling your wife about spreading manure on your lawn. My Dad was to buy steer manure to fertilize the lawn but instead bought and spread chicken manure. Oooops!! Neighbours 10 zip codes away could smell it. It took a long time for him to live that down...this happened decades ago and still makes me chuckle. I own a horse and know the benefits of livestock manure. Black gold!!

    Organic cow manure is a great supply of nitrogen. I've been using it on my lawn and the results are very good: a darker green lawn, healthier grass plants and good growth - requiring more frequent mowing. That's how I like it. The manure smell isn't noticeable after a couple of days.

  • @MrPacMan36
    @MrPacMan36 6 років тому +7

    We did this to a country home with horse manure from the neighboring horse barn onto plain dirt with grass seed. Can I tell you... It stunk heavy for about a week, but a month went by and it was the freshest greenest grass I've seen for a while...

    Nice to see a lawn tutorial from a California resident. I just fertilized and seeded my lawn with steer manure three days ago as it's cooling down here in So Cal. Not sure how often to water, but I knew I had to keep it moist initially so I may have broken the law, as I've watered for three days. I'll give it a break for the next couple days.

  • @JoeSpinozzi
    @JoeSpinozzi 6 років тому +8

    Good work and good job on a time-lapse my dad's lawn when I lived in Bakersfield to do exactly the same thing responded really well to manure but don't be afraid to Super over fertilize it because you can't kill that stuff and then it will have lots of fertilizer so I sometimes double or even triple the normal fertilizer. This is the proper way to dominate your Neighbors lawn especially artificial turf!

    I have been considering doing this to amend my soil. Areas are dry and dusty, lacking organic material. I have been considering manure hoping it might open up the soil a bit. Our climate in West Texas is nearly identical to Bakersfield. We get a bit more rain, but you guys can water more often. Because of the similarities, your video has been super helpful and it has convinced me to go ahead. Unfortunately I happened to mention it to my wife already...

    Bermuda grass sucks in the winter, but usually pops right back as soon as the weather warms up again. I’ve found while it’s heat tolerant, it does like water too.

      That’s interesting. I just shoveled out my chicken coop and have 2 wheel barrel loads of chicken manure. I’ve never tried chicken manure but from what I read it’s good shit (pun intended)! You’ll have to let me know how it does for you. Best of luck and thanks for the nice comment!

    Did you find that you had to eat more food to produce all that manure to cover your whole lawn, or was the regular diet enough? Thanks.

    How about seed? Did you mix manure and seed to your compost? I had sod laid down on my yard and it now is turning yellow. Can you show me step by step to help my lawn get back in track?

    I would've like to have seen it at 2 weeks because I can sill see where the brown patches were. Mine does the same thing. It's like the grass wasn't getting enough water in those areas or the soil was too hard. Check to see if your sprinklers are reaching and saturating those areas good.

    • @wrstlngstud82
      @wrstlngstud82  6 років тому

      It was a sprinkler issue. After I adjusted the sprinklers the little brown spots greened right up.

    Great idea. But I'm curious do you mulch your grass clippings into your lawn that can replenish up to 25% of what is lost during growing maybe that will help your lawn. Mulching the grass clippings and also helps keep the ground moist.

    Hi Kelsey, I'm from Mesa, AZ, preparing to transition from winter rye to bermuda similar to your situation. I'm overseeding the rye with bermuda and last summer gave me some probs because I had numerous bare spots and weak bermuda growth. Wanted to confirm that the manure is ok to place on top of bermuda seed? Thank you.

    • @wrstlngstud82
      @wrstlngstud82  Рік тому

      I’m not an expert by any means, but if the manure is composted and no longer hot it should be good to grow just about anything I would think. Best of luck partner.

    I'm i the process of trying to restore my lawn and I stopped by here to see what kind of tools there are to evenly spread compost/manure. That looks like the ticket for me.
    I have a lawn about three times the size of yours here. Doing it with a shovel and rake is not working the way I want. It's uneven and that's a problem. PLus, I'm reseeding in places so it's important to get fert on the seed..

      This was just my front lawn. The back lawn is much larger (1/2 acre lot). I used that spreader for all of it.

    • @wrstlngstud82

      Roughly, 1/2 a pickup load. I covered approx 2000 sq ft with 1 pickup load and had some extra at the end.

      That was just the weekly mowing. I just wanted it mowed before i spread it because I knew it was going to really grow.
