    To correct the SC2 micro thing; zerglings only automatically surround something when it's standing still. You'd need like 20 zerglings against a single zealot to have enough lings for an open place to attack would be in front - which ends up blocking the zealot and then surrounds it. The pack of lings that runs up to a unit and then surrounds it are people micro'ing them.
    The biggest problem with SC2' engine is target firing. Say you have 10 marines, and a unit dies after 8 marine attacks. The 2 'extra' marines will automatically start attacking a new unit. So if you move, attack, move, attack you can both travel the optimal distance while attacking optimal targets. This makes marines *extremely* powerful in any situation. This made marines so good that multiple players won entire tournaments building almost only marines - for years.

    • @norberthiz9318
      @norberthiz9318 23 дні тому

      that zergling micro you are talking about is just a move command past the unit and once some lings are ahead of the target a move and you have a perfect sorround. Its literally 2 very simple clicks.

      Besides, if you have 20 ghouls with Unholy Aura, it's trivial to surround much slower units. And if you think it's so simple to micro in sc2, go watch a ZvZ set between pro players. The skill level is an entirely different universe than a relatively dead game.
      I'm not going to respond to you again.

    • @norberthiz9318
      @norberthiz9318 23 дні тому +1

      @@nivyan bro grubby was talking about how in wc3 sorrounding is a form of skill expression with almost infinite depth, while there is literally zero depth to it in sc2. You making a point that "aCtHuaLly you need 2 clicks instead of one" doesn't invalidate grubby's point.
      "Besides, if you have 20 ghouls with Unholy Aura, it's trivial to surround much slower units"
      No its not and you can't have 20 ghouls. Ghouls are not zerglings.
      Nobody was talking about the difficulty of micro in sc2, it was about sorrounding specifically and in terms of that sc2 IS trivial. I am well aware of sc2's difficulty since I am an sc2 player myself.

    I don't think you've mentioned it Grubby, but if you double left click a unit it will select all (12max) of the same unit type. I didn't know about control groups when I was a kid, so this was an easy way for me to back up my ranged units without accidentally drag box selecting my melee units. @@1e0isfdkorblpg Thing is, that clunky ai pathing actualy contributes to the enjoyment of the game in case of Broodwar. It makes it distinct when player optimizes unit movement and when hes not (microing). That makes it more entertaining to see feats of great players, raises skill ceiling (necessary for truly competetive scene). Also it makes positioning of your armies and minding the map terrain much more important. Compare Broodwar to SC2. SC2 has way better AI pathing than Broodwar and thats one of the reasons why its much less enjoyable for spectators. In SC2 units easily move in single blob and players focus, apart from macro, is mostly on casting spells and moving the blob forward or backward. In Broodwar on the other hand, because of worse AI pathing and more distinct units, players use map terrain much more, split their armies and use smaller groups of units in distinct manouvres. So on one hand you have SC2 with two blobs of units with visual clutter of spells as a indicator of action and on other hand Broodwar with constant movement, flanking attacks and counter attacks, setting traps and feints with little visual clutter. Also more units you have in Broodwar, much more harder it gets to efficiently control them, and that serves as a soft break fr when one player gets very ahead, which allows more opportunities for comeback.
      And as far as your remark about not having time to grind the skills. Well, you wanna be among the best, you have to grind. You want to play casualy, you can play against other casuals. It doesnt matter what game you play.

    Units attempting to path to their target to get in range is actually a good decision that shows understanding of how the game works. Imagine you're uphill and you target an enemy down a cliff that is running away, if the unit would try and get in range it can essentially 'get farther away' from the target by going to the edge of the cliff, realize it is not in range, then walk back to the slope to try and chase. This makes the game much easier on the AI and newer players while not really changing much for experienced players. Also it has the added benefit of reusing code that is already available to them from other games which benefit much more from this behaviour (starcraft).
    Now, IDK if this is still a thing in reforge, but an interesting thing about pathing is that spam clicking makes your units move slower, making just 1 click is the fastest way to get somewhere.

    I started watching grubby after tyler1 championship and holy hell this game is entertaining, but i also wish sometimes Soda would play WOW with grubby and couch him in arena, i mean he managed to get Viki to 2200 (not throwing any shade to Viki, she is really good at games, more so just showing that Soda is good in arena), would be really entertaining to see how grubby will react to all the cluster*uck happening in wow, like switching roles

    I believe that grubby should have ordered to attack the ground instead of attacking the tower directly, because that would also make the catapult damage the workers with siege damage on top of burning oil damage.
