    Make sure to swap out the key sensor. It’s about the size of a stick of gum. Mine had a grey connector with blue jacketing. Take this out of the old handle and put it into the new one. The key sensor is in between the two halves, remove the screw in the back to separate, then pull the wires to the center where the connector body can slide through. It’s coded to your car and if you don’t you get a “I-Key Fault”. Had to learn this the hard way and do this project twice, but now it’s working great.

      Brian: Thanks for this tip. How did you do the connections? It looks original key sensor is wire by solder.

      Appreciate if you can advise how you moved/attached the old sensor to the new handle. Thanks very much!

      @@calvinmotoyama6289 To swap the key sensor, you need to take each door handle and separate the chrome cover from the black plastic backing. The chrome cover latches into the black plastic on one side, and there's a screw holding them together on the other end.
      You will find a black sensor (about 75mm (3 inches) long and 20mm (3/4 inch) wide) attached to the inside of the black part of the handle with some adhesive. I was able to simply pull the sensor out and swap it out. You need to pull the sensor through a hole in the handle, but that part is obvious once you actually have it apart.
      I purchased a cheap knock-off door handle and it was very difficult to separate chrome cover from the black plastic. I ended up breaking the black part.. The cover fit well on the OEM door handle so I didn't mind, since that is all I needed. It might be easier to separate them if you buy a higher quality door handle.

      Thanks of course I had no idea, got the error and had to redo whole thing

    Wanted to follow up on my previous comment. I tried it again, because I suddenly realized that I had my window down, which by default blocks access to all the critical parts, the two door handle wires and the little yellow plastic clip holding the lock rod in place. SUCCESS! Thank you for saving me a few hundred bucks in unnecessary (and always inflated dealer fees).
    So - if you try to do this based on the great tutorial here (recommend you do) , MAKE SURE YOUR WINDOW IS ROLLED UP!

    Was able to do this replacement on our 2015 SV. Very straight forward and didn't need to reprogram anything. After doing the work I can appreciate how awkward it must have been to video some of the work done in the door.

    I was looking for a video on how to replace an exterior door handle on a 2005-2012 Pathfinder. Couldn't find one but after viewing your video, I was able to replace mine no problem. There are a few differences, but it is basically the same installation. Thanks for the vid.

    I appreciate the video. Great help. I did struggle detaching the old handle cables and found removing them from their mount with a long small needle nose pliers help me get at those connector locking mechanisms to get them disconnected. Again appreciate the video

    I just did this on my 2015 S, and when I was done, I had to use LeafSpy Pro to reset the lock behavior preferences. Just a heads-up.

    At the 3:22 mark you have your finger behind the yellow part, I don't know how that is possible following the video sequence. At the 4:05 mark you said that you had to slip the rod out, but did not show how. I got this far and had to give up.

      I had the EXACT same experience. Piece of cake taking the inner trim, etc. off, then the video doesn’t explain at all how to remove the little rod that connects to the handle with the little yellow clips. Gave up and reassembled the door. Waste of time.

    Looks like a job some good adhesive could have fixed instead of a brand new part. But very good disassembly video.

      yeah. it looks doable his way.. but I think I was wondering...' why not some super glue?'

      @@snivlingwimp Yeah I fixed my 2015 Sentra with some super glue after watching this video and seeing how much they charge for the handle. Only been a couple of weeks, but so far so good. Unplugging the electrical connections on the handle has to be the worst part of the entire repair.

    After the installation on my 15' leaf I get a "I-key fault" message. I see that happened to a couple other people on reddit forums. Is this common? Is the solution to have the dealer reprogram the fobs? I would prefer an less expensive DIY solution if possible. I tried disconnecting the 12v battery as well as reading/ clearing DTCs. The batteries in the two fobs are new. Regardless, thank you for the video!

    • @Kassidy1070
      @Kassidy1070 2 роки тому

      @@lincolnwilcox Yes, it came down to the quality of the part. I had to buy an official Nissan part from the service dept to install.

    • @brianhornung1685
      @brianhornung1685 2 роки тому

      This is related to the key sensor piece which is coded to the car. I followed this video and had the same “I-Key Fault”. The fix is to take apart your old door handle and sandwiched between the chrome outer skin and inner black plastic handle is a long plastic key receiver sensor. It’s a little smaller than a stick of gum. On my 2013 LEAF it had a grey connector and blue near the connector. Swap this to your new handle and BAM! Problem solved. I ended up keeping the new button with the aftermarket handle but that dang sensor swap saved a trip to the dealer.

    my wifes 2015 Leaf has the exact same problem. The little tab snapped off. Talk about a facepalm moment engineering. Who builds something so cheap like this and why isn't there a an official fix for it. I am seriously concerned it will just do it again.
