- This lesson shows a simple but hard truth about playing fast boogie woogie - you must play slow and then speed up gradually. Too many people try to play too fast too early and get very tense.
Start slow, increase speed gradually. This may take years.

Great advice! In other words, "How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice". 😊
Slowly
I'm a cellist who appreciates your music. Yes! the key is to play even slow deliberate tempo. over the course of a couple months you gradually increase tempo. by doing this you ingrain technique and learn faster than if you try to rush the process. This IS the SECRET to amazing playing.
I needed to hear this again. Thanks Henri.
Slow and steady.... Love it. Thank you Henri.
Excellent advice. Thank you 🙂
It's such basic advice but honestly the only advice that matters. there really it no way to shortcut it other than just sitting down and putting the time in.
I've been playing the same left hand pattern for 3.5 weeks and it's really solid and even fast. Until I bring in my right hand .... so I have to now slow it back down just to match hands and then I'll be good.
A very helpful video,many thanks
I love watching you play, and even will watch “how to” as well. I don’t even play!!
slow is smooth, and smooth is fast!
Wise teaching skills.
Was just about to commune just the same ;)
How long have you been playing blues music on the piano for?
🎹🎹🎹👍
Henri - is it the same secret to playing fast RH triplet and other single note patterns
Does feeling the tension mean I'm going to fast or playing for too long. Or both? Can you offer a rule of thumb or approach to develop a new left hand riff as quickly as possible, while not violating the guidelines? I'd like to practice most efficient ly. Thanks!
Hey - there is no "as quickly as possible" - when you feel tension, stop. You are trying to play too fast too soon with incorrect technique. When you learn to play fully relaxed, you can play for a very long time. It takes as long as it takes. Practice infinite patience and focus on the process rather than the outcome, get deep inside that slow boogie.
There's a whole lot of processes involved in playing the Piano. I have only just begun my journey but already I appreciate the scale of multifaceted development involved.
Just think the gym. You wouldn't expect to bench beyond your means in one go. You have to train up to a level and allow time for the body to adjust to that. The brain will work behind the scenes for you so long as you give it time to adjust correctly and as Henri says here... Start slow and give it time.
Thank you!😃
@@Tube2097this “the brain will work behind the scene for you” makes sense in all disciplines of life, often we wonder how can that thing be possible to learn and we abandon to fast but we forget the subconscious which works for us behind the scene. Amazing
You're ace!
yeah have a great day too
Your teaching is genius... like a father.
you look slow you play fast ;-)
