Your Dungeon Master might get tired of playing Dungeons & Dragons. When they do, here are three games that they might want you to play: Ten Candles, Alice is Missing, and The Quiet Year. But will you let them off the hook for your D&D game so easily?

10 Candles is SUCH a good game. I literally cried during the recording replays the first time I played
Dude, top notch acting for your various roles. I'm impressed!
Thank you!
I'm just thankful someone else admitted to being tired of playing D&D. 😆
There are so many great tabletop games out there! Broaden your horizons, players!
This skit hits so hard for me. I'm a 95% forever DM for our players and I'm always trying to get our group to look at other systems and games beyond D&D. I've had success with Mutants & Masterminds, Star Wars, and am looking forward to trying that new one from Monte Cook Ghost of Appalacia.
I love D&D, but sometimes I want to play in a different playground for a while.
I just incorporate it into our campaign. Big battle? We use Kingdoms and warfare but we could also use Warhammer. Naval battles? We're using Armada, literally were playing a game of Armada but for the players it's just a naval battle. Treasure searches are now a deck of cards I made up using the Heroquest system, navigating dungeons is a deck from Mazes and Monsters and chases are from Savage worlds Pathfinder and we use critical hits and misses decks from Pathfinder. The great thing about D&D is how easy it is to bolt in systems.
"What's Dungeons & Dragons, I thought we were playing DnD?"
I can't-
Loved that you started with 10 candles. One of my first experiences GMing was playing 10 Candles. It does a great job of creating atmosphere. Been loving running CoS but I’m read to give dnd a break, pushing my group into som Call of Cthulhu every now and again!
I’m not tired of dungeons and dragons but this skit was great. Very funny. Good acting and great editing.
That 10 candles idea really gives me Darksouls vibes. That sort of ‘age of fire’ going out and having to either extend it a little longer or allowing it to end.
Laughed my ass off! "You Neanderthal. " LOL great skit!
I really want to play ten candles sometime soon
Me too!
In our group it is expected that we rotate who is gm. Sometimes a gm will bring in a different system and we give it a go. But I could understand how a forever dm could get tired of the same old.
I can totally recommend these games:
Orpheus Protocol
Savage Lands
Mutant:Y0
World of Darkness
Mutants and Masterminds
Monster of the Week
Call of Cthulhu
Lancer
Glitch: Story of the Not
OK but it was fun to learn about other systems/games! I might bring these games up with my own group to see if they'd want to play em
Those personas are amazing! Thanks for sharing about the different games!
I recently ran 6 sessions of Vaesen (by Powered by the Apocalypse) as a palate cleanser. We had fun with the adventure "A Wicked Secret" but I had to heavily rework it to make it a satisfying mystery. Vaesen has a great setting, good character creation, and punishing mechanics. As it provides little GM support, my players are now converting their characters into D&D (but Cthulhu would be a better fit). To match the challenging tone we'll try the D&D "Hard Mode" rules and characters will gain levels of mental or physical exhaustion when they use inspiration or get wounded.
Vaesen is another one that's caught my eye!
So Dread, but with candles instead of Jenga. Cool.
Really fun video! I especially like the character who is really into the story telling of the game haha. There are so many other amazing games out there that I wish I had time for! I love D&D but I will say it is a pretty huge time sink. Not that I mind of course, but giving how much I put into it, it doesn't leave room for much else. Thanks for show casing these other games!
Great video to introduce some fun alternatives
Recently told one of my tables I don't want to come back for the next planned campaign because I want to try something other than dnd.
Change is hard.
Had a friend tell me about 10 candles. Seems pretty cool to me, can you complete your final goal before the world ends. Death is inevitable, and success, not guaranteed.
Ten Candles actually sounds really interesting!
Oh…. Paranoia and Danger Patrol as some honorable mentions in addition to your excellent suggestions.
This is such a funny video! I enjoy your content. Started watching since your Strahd videos. Keep the content coming! Thanks
Glad you like them!
10 Candles is awesome. There are a few games on UA-cam if you want to see the game played.
Aw jeez, I'm the guy in orange AND the DM.
Totally thought you were gonna go with Honey Heist for the second game when the character wanted something more comedy than tragedy lol. I really need to try 10 Candles sometime
Okay but actually this made we want to try Alice is Missing
I’d seriously love to run a game of it sometime
@@LunchBreakHeroes it looks super fun, I’m just worried because I type slowly
Have you tried "Stormbringer"? A lot better... a bit more rules but really satisfying.
Loved this the more it went on. I always need reminders to play other ttrpgs.
I'm getting a bit tired of DnD also. My issue is that most palette cleanser type games are like wasabi - short-lived, spicy, and intense. I'm looking for something more like a sorbee palette cleanser: something slow and sweet.
I wish more people branched out to Eclipse Phase. So much potential there…
10 candles is a great game if your players have buy in and you can create an ominous atmosphere.
I was waiting for you to bring up Bluebeards Bride and Lady Blackbird.
I want to play all these
I was expecting Blades in the Dark!
I’m trying to get my group to try other ttrpg like Fallout 2d20 but they just want to play D&D 5e. When I was in college I was in a gaming club and we played many different ttrpg systems and board games as often as possible. The diversity was nice but it was hard to finish a campaign.
Well, he told you he prefers comedy to tragedy and you get Alice is missing, wasn't meant to be. But other than that, I feel you, those look like great games... but I still run dnd for the same reason 😅
Okay, but hear me out: D&D set in Candyland.
Now we’re on to something
This was gold!
Your friends look familiar
So a little C&C. If your goal was to do a video about TTG alternatives, this was great. Really got some creative juices flowing for me. If your goal was to make a funny skit, the video drags on a bit. This one was especially on point for me tho because my group's DM just admitted to being sick of DnD and we've been trying other things. We managed 1 whole CoC campaign of about 8 weeks before going back to DnD.
Thank you for that! I agree that it drags during the DM explanation of things. I should have cut those segments in half with witty banter.
It started out as a video about TTG alternatives, which morphed into a skit. The skit was originally just the intro, but I decided to have fun with it. It's the first skit I've done, so it's definitely rough around the edges. It was fun to do, and I plan to do more in the future.
Could have suggested pathfinder😂
Sometimes players cringe at changing the EDITION of D&D alone…
Lol, you went WAAAY off the beaten path with those game selections! Nice try though and an "A" for effort.
Unfortunately this is how this conversation tends to go no matter what is suggested. WotC is making it harder and harder for other games.
Crypts and Things, Low Fantasy Gaming are similar to D&D but not D&D. No optimizing builds.
lol. I am sick of D&D, but ....... Thanks
Just don’t play with yourself
Dread is better
