I accidentally edited out the bit where we mention Leonard Nimoy being the voice of Galvatron/Sentinal. So Ben put in a picture of him along with the on screen text "Leonard Nimoy". We know is what I'm saying.

You guys should do HER (2013), it’s wholesome almost saccharine film, but set in a future that’s nearly dystopian with the way people are connected with their devices. And literally love the AI.

    @Fisher_Films 4 роки тому +119

In regards to what's said at 15:23 it's even more heartbreaking to see how horribly Optimus is written when you hear Peter Cullen talk about how he got the role. He based the voice on his brother who served in the army and it was his brother's advice to play the character as sincere and gentle rather than tough and macho. You should defiantly look up the clip. I also had the chance to meet him at a comic con and he is the absolute nicest guy, very reserved but warm and friendly. All of this just makes me hate the live action movies more. F*ck Michael Bay.

He filmed a lot of the real personnel just doing their job in the Scorponok scene in the first one. I guess he told them what the situation was and then just filmed how they would handle it.
And the part with the credit card was a real thing that happened with a soldier during a big gunfight. A soldier told Bay that story, so he just put it in the movie. Lol.

@LittleRedRhuari RRR also don't forget in the first movie when they're about to see the coordinates of the cube from the glasses. That whole conversation.
Jazz: what about bumblebee? We can't just leave him to die.
Optimus: he'll die in vain if we don't accomplish our mission. Bumblebee is a brave soldier. This is what he would've wanted.
Ironhide: why are we fighting to save the humans. They're a primitive, violent race.
Optimus: were we so different? They're a young species. They have much to learn. But I've seen goodness in them. Freedom is the right of all sentient beings. You all know there's only one way to end this war. We must destroy the cube. If all else fails, i will unite it with the spark in my chest.
Ratchet: that's suicide. The cube is raw power. It could destroy you both.
Optimus: a necessary sacrifice to bring peace to this planet. We cannot let the humans pay for our mistakes. It's been an honor serving with you all. Autobots, roll out!
There are some other moments too. Generations of war turned him numbed to killing, which makes sense to me.

What I liked about this is it felt like it built on Sam’s statistical uselessness in a self-aware way. The Decepticons didn’t get caught by Sam, they wanted him to find out about the space bridge because they needed Optimus to revive Sentinel in order to use it. They pretended to hide and use humans to try and cover up the moon thing so that Sam would dig into it. As Bayverse Decepticon plots go, this one is actually pretty involved.

Cause in the movies there’s literally no reason for him to be the “cowardly backstabber” archetype cause he’s literally the size of a fighter jet and covered in saw blades. But in Prime he’s only that horrible metal giant to the humans and to other transformers he’s this weedy, snivelling has-been, who has sharp nails and some rockets when they all have death tentacles and webshooters and fusion cannons. The most damage he ever does is to people who are already injured or dying. He’s more competent than movie starscream but NOBODY takes him seriously, I love it.

He is maroon with spots of gold on him and has all smooth surfaces. He has metal wheels on him where he has tires later on. The wings on his back and windows on his chest don't make full-sense in those scenes. I think the CGI animators were just lazy with Sentinel's Cybertronian form. 5:15 "The opening of this movie is surprisingly sparse... and you can tell what's going on." I'm surprised you guys didn't remember the reason for this: 3D. This came out in the aftermath of Avatar, when all studios were trying to get that 3D money (till the fad mercifully did out.) At the time, Transformers 3 was hyped as being the ultimate 3D experience ever created, and like Avatar, it was actually filmed with 3D cameras instead of just being converted in post like most other early 10's films. I remember seeing some featurette where Bay talks about consulting with James Cameron, and one of his tips was to tone down the erratic camera work because it doesn't play well in 3D. Bay at least tried to do this in the opening. 3D might have factored into the janky JFK FX too.

Lindsay Elles taught me that the funny thing is that *Michael*-a *Bay*-nes was the real hero and apparently the genderbent self insert. Though if Sam is supposed to represent his normal off set self then I must give credit for self awareness and self deprecation.

    Fun Fact :
The original ending of the movie had Optimus and Megaton teaming up, then honoring a truce between the Autobots and Decepticons. The Decepticons and Megaton were to head back to Cybertron and repair it while Optimus and the Autobots would remain on earth, creating a new home for themselves.
I much prefer that ending over what we got.
Of course with Earth being Unicorn it wouldn't make too much sense...

*2001: A Space Odyssey* invented the "set on hydraulics" schtick. They used it for those scenes where the space stewardesses walk up the walls with their velcro shoes. It's really just the whole set rotating. This is not a new thing.

Nah, centrifuge movie sets are older than that. They used one in Royal Wedding in the early 50s to have Fred Astaire dance around on the wall and ceiling of a room.

The oldest one I've seen is Buster Keaton's "The Boat" from 1921, but apparently Victor Flemyng did it in 1919's "When the Clouds Roll By." So this schtick is literally more than a hundred years old.

Taking into account the story of how Peter Cullen created the voice for Optimus, the Bayformer’s movies are a real punch to the gut for the character of Optimus Prime.

Absolutely. I like how they went from the Transformers 1 vid saying "2 I remember as the worst" then on the video on Transformers 2 they say "aaaactually, it rly isn't". With 3 it was the start of the end for me. When Mark fucken Wahlberg came for 4 it was all completely dead atp.
With Ironhide's death (which they didn't even talk about??) came the death of the franchise imo.

It's definitely the best in the Franchise the last 40 mins was pure action and the main villain was a badass and sure the story wasn't the best but I don't go to a transformers movie for masterful story telling I go for a bit of fun action packed entertainment and that it definitely delivers on.
