I bought an AR637T in order to check out Forward Programming vs programming SAFE Mode in an AR636 with the Spektrum Programmer, SAFE Model Builder, and a laptop. It took quite a bit of going back and forth in the Forward Programming menu for the first-time setup, but once it was set up, it was much easier to fine tune things. You don't have to be a techno-geek to add AS3X or SAFE to any plane. Plus, the voltage port will come in handy if you want to monitor the voltage in your Lipo battery in real time. I also like not having to use a bind plug and the antennas are much better..
Just bought a Blade 230 S Heli and a DX6e transmitter. I'm new to all this but have been able to bind the two together but saw a UA-cam about forward programing on this combination but have not been able to get this on my DX6e menu. Does the Blade 230 S receiver supports this? Thanks
Tom: Great video. I didn't see how to use the flight mode switch to select between AS3X and Safe mode on and off. Do you have this in a PDF document so I won't have to rewind so many times? I just got a new NX8 and it came with a AR8020T receiver and I'm trying to Forward Program it. A written document would be great but I can't find it anywhere on the Spektrum or Horizon websites.

This was great, especially the comment near the beginning of your video, that clearly stated you were programming a device, rather than something inside the transmitter. I’d also appreciate a video of sorts about telemetry. I have an AR6335A receiver in my Blade 150S Heli. I set up telemetry using Auto-Config on my ix12 Telemetry programming window. Telemetry config window now shows (1 through 12) as follows: Volts, Temperature, RPM, AS3X, Apha-6, Empty, Empty, Empty, Empty, Rex V, and Flight log. I appear to be missing something though. There must be more to it, because I’m not seeing Volts, Temperature, RPM, AS3X, Alpha-6 (what is Alpha-6?), Text Gen (what is text gen?), and Flight log reported anywhere. I do see Rx V reported on the Flight Log window. I feel like I’m missing something fundamental in my setup. Any help would be appreciated or a detailed manual on how to properly set up, display and read/interpret Telemetry data. Thanks in advance.
I bought an Arrows Trekker and put an AR631 receiver out of my AeroScout in it. I opted for this setup rather than buy a new receiver and use the Vector. I can't get the forward programming to work, I get the error message ,"Not connected. Maybe I'm better off to try and fly it with all the programming for the AeroScout. It is a high wing plane and everything appears to be working correctly as far as surfaces, etc. I bought one of the BLE transmitter/ receiver programmer module and still can't figure out how to get it connected with the programmer Beta app on my Android. Using DX6e with AR637TA in an e-flite conscendo. I was able to get "Forward Programming" to appear in the menu, but when I selected it, the screen just reads "Gyro Settings." Didn't give me the same options you show in this video. Is there something I'm doing wrong. My end goal is to try to troubleshoot why my elevator and rudder are reversed. They have been reversed ever since I did a rebuild with new fuselage after a crash. I reversed the elevator and rudder in the Tx and it worked just fine, but then went to launch in SAFE and sadly, the SAFE brain was still using the reversed elevator without my Tx workaround. Plane just nose dived right into the ground instead of flying "Safe"-ly. So now I really want to go in and program the receiver so that it is moving the servos correctly for the elevator and rudder movement I want.
Hi Andy, any receiver that comes preinstalled in a model, will be "locked" programming wise. My suggestion would be to update the receiver and factory reset it in the forward programming menu. Then you will be able to reprogram it. From the description of your issue, I would wager that you used a different brand of servo when you replaced them. Different servos can have different programming and or gearing that causes it to work in the opposite direction as the stock servo, which will cause issues like you are having. The only solution, if using different servos, is to reprogram AS3X and SAFE on a blank factory reset profile. Hope that makes sense!

Hello Tom, I recently purchased the Avian SPMXAE1100 Smart ESC to pair with my FC6250HX Spectrum Flight Controller &/or AR9030T receiver to my DX8E Transmitter. Hi, last week I got the AR637T, I setup forward programming and added f-mode to my B-Switch. Now my problem is that in safe mode everything is working, all the servos respond as they should. But if I switch to AS3X mode then the servos does not respond on moving the airplane. It’s like SAFE mode works but not AS3X. I have checked in forward programming in the F-mode option that AS3X is activated. I have tried reset and start over several times now, and get the same results every time. It’s like the gyro works in SAFE but not in AS3X mode. Hope you can help figure out why the gyro stops working when switching to AS3X mode?
Hi Jonas! The gyros react and output to the controls much different depending on the mode. SAFE is more or less a "heading hold" gyro where as AS3X can be considered a "rate gyro". Now that is not to say you cannot add heading hold to AS3X but it is a good way to describe what you are likely seeing. When a gyro is in rate mode, it only corrects and moves the surfaces WHILE the model is in motion and moved off course. A good way to test AS3X is to hold the model and quickly and abruptly roll/pitch the plane and observe the surfaces while it is in motion. You will notice that the surfaces move then return to center while it moves then stops moving. On some models where control throws are small and the the surfaces are small this can be hard to see, so an alternative is to look at the servo horns themselves while doing this test. Hope that helps!
@@SpektrumRCvideos Thanks for your quick answer, the problem is that there are none movement at all while in AS3X mode, I have the T-28 1.1m from Horizon hobby and there it works. Forward programming very much depends on the receiver you are using and potentially the firmware or preset that is installed on the receiver. What are we working with?

The two communicate together wirelessly, it is part of the binding process. Forward programming is a bi-directional function of the telemetry provided by the receiver to the transmitter. Hope that makes it more clear :)

Make sure you initially throttle up a bit to activate the gyro. Otherwise, if you are only using AS3X (not SAFE) it may be very hard to see the controls correct. This can depend on a few factors, such as control travel, amount of AS3X gain, size of the control surface, etc.

I wish it did,,,,I got a pretty nice I had and used for 10 years,,then I bought a dx6e,,it still don't have it unless you update it . tried 8 times to register it so I can update it , so got tired of that and bought a new dx6 wich is the best radio I ever had,,
Hello Tom,
I recently purchased the Avian SPMXAE1100 Smart ESC to pair with my FC6250HX Spectrum Flight Controller &/or AR9030T receiver to my DX8E Transmitter. (Also have the the Smart ESC Programmer). Since seeing a lot of setup videos & a Receiver/Transmitter compatible list on the Spektrum website., I have a couple questions for you since my SPMXAE1100 has limited usage on my DX8E.
1. My SPMXE1100 doesn't connect with either of my FC6250HX or my AR9030T. It doesn't make any tones when it's initialized. all I see is a blinking red light & the fan running. Both receivers are bound to the DX8E. Is there something missing or I'm not doing?
Also don't have Forward Programming in the population list on my DX8E
2.This setup is for an Align 600 size helicopter. I decided to switch all the mechanics over to Spektrum parts so everything is compatible.
With the other amp I had I was getting the beeps on initiation. My Spektrum setup I get no response and can't get into programming the parameters i.e swashplate, tail gear, pitch ......can you give me the steps to take to get my heli going & or if I need BEC to go with the ESC
Same exact problem if you ever got a good answer/fix please lmk?!
But on this plane which is a older FMS P-47 1.4m it does not move the servos in AS3X only mode. I know how to it should respond in AS3X, but it´s like the gyro turns off when switching from SAFE to AS3X mode.
Would the AR620 have Forward Programming when bind to my DX6 Gen3 if I updated the firmware on the radio..?
Hi Teri, it will not.
@@SpektrumRCvideos Thanks for the reply. I've just upgraded all the RX's in my models to the SPMAR620 and set the fail safes the usual way... I just need to register them all now.
@@SpektrumRCvideos Hi Spektrum, just to let you know, I have Forward Programming with my DX6 Gen3 (SPM6750EU) and it works really well...
Is there anyway to do the forward programming through my laptop? I have a DX8 G1.
Unfortunately no
I have plugged in but forward programming still does not come up. I have a gen 3 dx6. My dad has the exact same setup but with a gen 2 transmitter. It's updated to 2.09 the latest but for some reason only my dad's comes with forward programming. Any help please very frustrating
Forward programming very much depends on the receiver you are using and potentially the firmware or preset that is installed on the receiver. What are we working with?
I have the new AR630 the Pins need to go facing forward (backwards) of course the AS3X works backwards, I can’t pull up the the receiver picture it shows a plane but no receiver to correct orientation. How do I do this??
Update your tx to update the images :)
What about the ar637ta in the thunderbolt
BNF receivers will either need to be "unlocked" or will have limited access to Forward Programming features. Hope that helps!
@@SpektrumRCvideos what should I set expo to to replicate safe since I can't get safe to work
On the thunderbolt 2
Expo will not replicate SAFE. Check out this video, there are some troubleshooting tips I think it might help ua-cam.com/video/o-46P066cik/v-deo.html&lc=UgyxA4GTNOQ5u7-cxLZ4AaABAg
How did you connect the receiver and transmitter?
The two communicate together wirelessly, it is part of the binding process. Forward programming is a bi-directional function of the telemetry provided by the receiver to the transmitter. Hope that makes it more clear :)
Question- I did the forward programming but my ailerons are off balance after I finished. Is there a way to start over? It seems like maybe the plane wasn't stabilized during the safe set up.
You could try relearn servo settings option in forward programming OR start from scratch (new model and reset the receiver settings)
@@SpektrumRCvideos Yes, I ended up doing a reset but after that I actually re-adjusted the servo arms manually. I think they were off to begin with.
@@todd_s1965 ahhh yes that will do it ;) Glad you got it going :)
I have the AR637TA Rx and it says "connection failed".
Did you figure this out?
@@mikeryan2388 yes, thanks
@@MrTalentwasted I'm having the same issue. Do you remember what you had to do? I can't remember what I did last week so I understand if you don't remember, but it could save me from having to send it back. Thanks
@@mikeryan2388 Sorry, I can't remember. Good luck!
When I click on forward programming on my NX6 it says “connection failed”. I’m trying to connect to my AR636B receiver. Any insight?
AR636 does not support forward programming.
One month ago, I bought a DX8 Gen2 and a E-flite Conscendo with built-in AR637T. With the received binded, when I try to work with Forward Programing, I receive error message "connection failed". The DX8 Gen 2 is in the last firmware version available 2.06 and the receiver AR637 came with the newest firmware available. Any suggestion?
The 637TA that comes in BNF and Ready to fly models is not programmable at this time. There will be a update in the future to open it up for programming
@@SpektrumRCvideos , The DX8 Gen2 receive the same error message for AR637TA or AR8010T. I think that it is a little bit strange behavior, I mean the same Transmiter, two differents receivers, the same error message. Any other idea?
@@claudiorosa3902 The Ar8010T doesn't support forward programming and is not programmable like an AR637T. The "TA" versions are programmed at the factory for the model it is included with and is not open for end user programming at this time. So neither will allow you to access them via Forward Programming. Hope that makes it clear? :)
@@SpektrumRCvideos , very clear thank you:-) Could I read the programing the factory programmed ? I don´t want to change what Spektrum did, but I would like undertstand what it was programmend and I would like to have a Flight Mode option to enable AS3X and Safe modes when or if it is necessary. I already definied a 3 postion key for Flight Mode 1/2/3 now I would like to associate each FM, for example: FM1=no features enable, FM2=AS3X ad FM3=SAFE. Is it possible? How?
@@claudiorosa3902 With a open stock AR637T or AR630 receiver you can do that with flight modes and much more. Have you watched our setup series on the AR637T? John goes thru setup of AS3X and Safe with flight modes in that series.
iv set it all up but the as3x dont cut in when you move the model sir
Make sure you initially throttle up a bit to activate the gyro. Otherwise, if you are only using AS3X (not SAFE) it may be very hard to see the controls correct. This can depend on a few factors, such as control travel, amount of AS3X gain, size of the control surface, etc.
done it t5hanks
Dear sir I updated my DX6E , I have my Ar631 receiver bound to NY transmitter and still no FOWARD programming in my menue next to. Telemitry on the list is lap timer . u guys at horizon hobby typical old me this receiver is top of the line what is the problem why can't I get this expensive receiver to program
Hello Seth! Can you make sure your DX6e is up to date? You should be on version 2.08
I have the dx6 black and have no forward programming. I'm also missing quadcopter in models. Will the firware update fix this and will i be able to use forward programming? Thanks....
I'm trying to program safe on my UMX Citation but my NX10 keeps telling me connection failed. What do I do?
UMX planes do not have the forward programming function. safe select should be set to ch5/gear on those planes by default.
I'm using the FC6250hx with a dx9 and can't seem to activate any servos. No forward programming
Make sure your radio is up to date :)
Also check out our 6250HX setup series :)
@@SpektrumRCvideos thank you for the reply! All up to date but even after setting up forward programming, my FC6250HX slowly beeps and flashes multiple colours. I hear the servos but no response to them OR throttle 🤯
@@Brandon5993 Normally that means you have not set the servo output frequency yet. It is one of the first steps in the swashplate setup video ua-cam.com/video/VJ0m2S42QPI/v-deo.html
wow awesome
Hi spektrum. I would like to se a video about the dXs radio setup. Can’t find anything anywhere
It is on the agenda, but honestly right now there is not much you can do with the DXs. We are working on a update to the PC programmer to allow user to program it more, but right now there is only reversing and mode change via trim programming. Stay tuned for updates on the DXs. Thanks!

When you say you updated, did you update transmitter or receiver? Also which receiver are you trying to use?
