    Thanks for the video, we just got our first tower! The instructions said to always have 1/4 inch of water in the tray after you place the seeds in the cubes so that’s what we did 2 days ago. Our cubes are soaked but that’s what the instruction book said to do that came with the tower, that’s wrong? It also says do not cover so we didn’t?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel

      I never read the instruction book. I start my seedlings differently than that. To grow things like peppers, eggplant celery....you will need a more advanced seed starting set up than what comes with the tower.

    I love your videos and have learned so much from them! I have a question about using the heating mat. Do you use it during both the germination and seedling phases? In other words, do you keep the seeds on the mat the whole time before transferring them to the tower? My lettuce seed packet says they need cool temperatures to germinate, so should I remove them from the mat before germination and then put them back later?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  3 місяці тому

      I have found the heat mat works best, even for lettuce if your temps are 75 or below. I keep my seedlings on the mat full time. The warmth makes them grow faster. They can dry out more quickly as they get larger. I have a seed starting course that shows seed to tower and each day what to do next. Also, thanks for the sweet feedback! stan.store/Theaeroponictowerchannel

      Thats a good idea. I don't worry about ph all that much honestly. As long as it's in the winter of 5-7. I have found if I let things settle a couple days ph tends to naturally balance. When I start to fuss with it too soon and too often it is hard to get it stable.

    Thank you for the video and the course🙏. Do you remove the algae before you put them in the tower? In another video I learned to prevent algae as much as possible because if you have them in the rockwool it can spread in the towergarden and clog up the roots. But it looks like you don‘t really care about it?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  4 місяці тому +1

      It won't spread in the tower. I don't worry about it. Some systems that aren't made well allow light to penetrate in the system and that can be a problem. With Tower gardens they are made so light can't penetrate them. They can get a little algae on the outside if they haven't been cleaned all season but I just wipe or hose that off.

  • @801mom

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel

      Yeah, I'm sure that works for the seeds they send with the tower. There are more than one way to germinate seeds, I have just not had a lot of luck with that method. I know that will not work for things like celery and cilantro.

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  10 місяців тому +1

      70. Sometimes rockwool can get a little too warm at 70 depending on the airspace around you so you can check your rockwool temp with a meat thermometer and lower the heat mat if you have a heat controller. I have mine that don't have a temp control set up on a timer once my garage gets warmer so the rockwool doesn't get too hot.

    I don't grow as many seedlings as you so my trays may only have 2, 3 or 4 rockwool in them at a time. Does this expose the sides of the rockwool and thus the roots of plant to air and light, and create issues? I guess that is why I was using the plastic inserts but I find the inserts tend to keep the rockwool too wet. your thoughts?

    seeds?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  Рік тому +2

      So I do it for peppers and eggplant when I'm growing out of season. It's not necessary but because those can be hard to germinate out of season I do it so I don't waste rockwool. It's just a tool I use to make sure the seed germinates so I'm not wasting rockwool or having to over seed and then thin seedlings for plants where I only want one seedling. You don't want to use that method for everything. Most seeds are too small or delicate for this method in my opinion.

    Very impressed with your towers. How many do you have? Have you placed your starter seed directly on your tower? w, your rockwool?

    • @theaeroponictowerchannel
      @theaeroponictowerchannel  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! I have 6. I do not start directly in the tower. I know it's possible but I have found that I can grow more food with a faster turnover if I start my seeds and let them get to a mature size before going in the tower. I have also found that the rock wool gets too wet and deteriorates too fast if they go into the tower too early which leads to slower growing produce that is prone to disease. I just made a short on the size I let my plants get before going into the tower. They are larger and super strong so they grow FAST when they go in the tower. Hope that makes sense!
