- Dedicated to Bernado Saldana and his son Tristan Saldana.
In 1967, I would ride 13 miles to Laurel Canyon, and then explore.I was fascinated by the hippies, the musicians who lived in Laurel Canyon and since we lived next to Topanga Canyon, I explored Topanga Canyon as well. So many great musicians lived in these canyons and Bernado and his wife knew all of them, Jim Morrison, Frank Zappa,Cass Elliot, David Crosby, Gram Parsons, and they always headed to the Canyon Country Store for sundries.My brother was a year younger, so I never took him with me. We had just gotten back from Europe and I was in the mood to explore, so I headed out to Laurel Canyon, a favorite haunt of mine.
That day, I got a flat tire on my bike right in front of the Laurel Canyon market, where musicians were jamming.. Bernardo approached me and asked me if I needed help. He was able to line up a truck to take me home. We became friends. When I ran into him again, he said he could see for miles and miles ( referring to The Who song) I asked him if he knew music could " see"
Our philosophical discussions and our friendship was wonderful.
Bernardo was one of a kind . He was only 46 when he died, but what a life he lived!
His favorite quotes were " Soup's on, we're aging" and Luke 817 sums up everything in 3 numbers" so I composed a song 8 minutes and 17 seconds in length in Bernardo's honor.
1967 was well over 1/2 a century in the rear view mirror, but in my mind, the Summer of Love was an amazing time.
I later moved to Laurel Canyon in the 70s for a spell, and lived at the Steinway Mansion, which has quite a history of its own. Laurel Canyon has a special place in my heart. In memory of my dear friend Bernardo. TS

Thank you John! On this very day, those horrible Manson murders happened in Benedict Canyon.I remember our neighborhood was alarmed, but assumed it was some Hollywood thing. Three months later, when they caught Manson in the desert, we realized he was a neighborhood fixture, living in Chatsworth, a few miles down the road. The Manson family had 75-100 people living on Spahn Ranch. It used to be a place you could rent horses at. I used to hike Chatsworth with my father as a kid and saw some of those Manson people in our neighborhood...Bernado and his wife knew Sharon Tate. Bernardo told me Jay Sebring used to style his hair. Crazy Los Angeles history!

Fascinating... reminds me of the infamous Willy Pickton hog farm murders... that farm was very close to where I was living at the time in greater Vancouver area... we call it the Lower Mainland.

Your friend Bernardo was so fortunate to have known you in person, and to have you dedicate this masterpiece in his memory.
For the past two weeks I have been listening to many of your compositions, driving too and from my job. I literally hear your music in my mind all day long now.
Then I crank up my Harmon Kardon speaker and play one composition after another.

@CRM2020 True! Yes Laura, our arranging, audio production, and video production process is labor intensive but it's a labor of love -- we love making music! If you are hearing Thomas's music 24x7 then we are in the same place. Just like some spiritual disciplines use meditation or contemplative prayer to calm and focus the mind, this kind of detailed, passionate music can do the same. It's a beautiful thing! It just pleases me so much that some of our listeners really "get" the music.
