Had a best buddy give me a FG400 . After he passed i finally picked it up and started to learn. I was a drummer. I quit smoking and needed something in my hands to keep my mind occupied. It was perfect for me. I pick it up almost everyday. Thanks Jerry. You knew just what i needed.

I bought an FG400A around 1987 and always thought it had a good sound. A few years ago, my son started playing guitar and kind of adopted it, which did my heart good. One day, he went to look for a new guitar on his own and came home from the local music store with a Yamaha FS830, which he is absolutely in love with. Funny how they become a part of your own story.
I just bought a yamaha fg700s used to start playing as a beginner. This was a awesome story thanks for sharing your experience with us. God bless you and protect you.
Mines a fg375s from 81, I pulled it from a bunch of bs in a buddy’s old trailer and cleaned it up and it’s one of the best acoustics I’ve played, absolutely love the thick v neck on mine
I have a Yamaha FG460S which is very similar, great guitar that was made 1986 to 1988 so over 35 years old. Sounds really good, very great tone.
Nice looking guitar great memory, i have a hollow body electric univox mom & dad bought me back around 1967 it still works. Brings back mems every time i look at it

Yamaha make incredible instruments at every price point, and accessible to everyone.
My first accoustic guitar was Yamaha FG365s solid top . I was 19 when I bought it I am now 64 . I have several guitars but she is still my favourites having matured with age the sustain and tone is epic. I play Celtic music and fingerstyle, people tell you big dreadnoughts are not suited to fingerstyle but for me the richness of sound is second to none especially in DADGAD. Enjoy your Yamaha they are second to none.👍😊

I bought a 365s made in the early 70s a few years back. Love it. It's a real boomer and the sustain is very good.
Yes I'm 73 and playing since I was 13, I've noticed over the years that Yamaha always have a consistenty, from their FG models to the L series,I have a l series Yamaha that's the equal to my Martin,an' that's Quality 😊😊😊

The FGX720sc is a nice instrument. Natural finish or a different color? i played a black FGX800sc and the sound was phenomenal. I have found the finish to have an impact on the sound in certain cases.

I miss those days, especially this time of year as we approach the Holiday Season. There are lots of stories and anecdotes to share with these songs.

That describes me. For years I've owned and played a FG700. I already also have a Sigma but I wanted to upgrade to a Guild. I bought the Guild and set aside the FG700. But that baby keeps tugging at my heartstrings to this very day. I even decided to buy a new FG830. But the FG700 just won't go away. I love it so much, I'd want it buried with me when they dig the hole in the ground.

Wow, I have a similar bond with my FG-450SA. Very similar looking and sounding guitar. I’ve had it since I was about 16 as well (now 40). Glad I found this video.

I am a recent Yamaha player, I bought an LL16 a couple of years back which has a great action and beautiful refined tone, heaps of bass and volume but also strong in the mid range. They did something very good with the bracing on this model. I have done a review of the guitar on my UA-cam channel.

What a cool story. I think Yamaha Guitars are incredibly underrated. My wife who was my gf at the time... purchased a Yamaha for me back in 2007. This was also my first acoustic guitar. Still play it to this day. Recently purchased a Yamaha FG850.

In 1977, is when I bought my Yamaha FG340 from a music store going out of busy. Still have it; still sounds great. 😉

Yamaha makes some great guitars.....I have a handmade Yamaha classical I got in 1998, it's one of my favourites. Yours' sounds great!

That’s similar to me. I started to take a few lessons when I was 10. The only guitar we had was my dad Yamaha cj-838s, a big country jumbo. I wish I had a picture of me trying to play that thing at 10. Felt like reaching around a kayak. He still has it though and I love to play it when we visit home.
Learned on a Yamaha loaned to me by Mr O Connor who was a great music in CBS Tra li...it sounded amazing and gave me a false sense that all acoustics just sounded that good.
The head was glued back in place as well,but didn't stop it!

Thank you for sharing your story and the beautiful tribute. After my daughter found a stringless Takamine classical in the neighbor's garbage can I started to learn. A year or so later I proved to myself that it was time for an investment. A good friend who is an accomplished musician sent me to the music store where the lead guitarist from his band worked. This was the guitar he grabbed and said, "this guitar will take you as far as you want to go." It was $400 which was a lot of money back in the mid 90's. Fast forward 30 years later, yes we also share some scars from our life together that happily bring back so many memories of wonderful songs, journeys and friends. As I have just retired my trusty music partner and I are spending more time together than ever and I'm loving every minute.

Isn't that a coincidence. My first acoustic was a Yamaha FG 450 bought at Tony's Music Box in Fredericton, NB. The plywood top Yamaha spent the entire trip upside down on the Victoria day long weekend Miramichi run by times. Recover the canoe, untie the guitar case, open it up, lean the 450 against a tree to dry out a bit and play it that night. Always sounded great. Since then I've owned a Taylor 614ce. It blew up eventually from lack of humidity. Then I got a Yamaha APX7. Love it but it's quiet and doesn't care about the humidity. Now I've got a Boucher Studio Goose. Love it but I've never needed or wanted more than the 450. Thanks for doing this video.
I've owned my FG450sa for many years now. It sounds just as fine as a Martin. Great guitars

Great story and great playing for sure. I've owned my Yamaha FG335 for the last 34 plus years, it was still like new when I bought it for $100 with the case. It's now very worn and has a wear hole near the pick guard but I'll never get another one, it's become a part of me just like yours has. Stay cool!!
There are laminates, solid bodies and there are Yamaha laminates. I've had a FG350W for over forty years and although accumulatingg smaller solid body acoustics over the years I wouldn't part with my Yammy dread for anything. Thanks for the tale.

Thanks for sharing your story. My first guitar was a Yamaha classical guitar which, for about 25-30 years, was my only guitar. I no longer have it but now have four acoustic electric guitars (two Taylors and two Yamahas), my favorite being my Yamaha FSX5. I have always thought - still think - that Yamaha guitars are an incredible value.

Wow so great to hear of a heartening story about how this model guitar (fg461s) is involved in the life another human being.... while taking a break I decided to search UA-cam for this model... curious to see what comes up. Why? It's because my late wife gave one to me on my 25th birthday (1995) while we were dating. At one point about 5 years ago she gave me permission to sell it because by then I had complained lots on how the neck wasn't to my liking... Needless to say when she passed in 2021 from a car-pedestrian collision, the guitar will be with me until I'm gone.... passing it onto my kids with my stories to them about the guitar... We (son and I) used it to sing "Angel" by Jack Johnson during her memorial service. Adding a tribute to the FG461-S story line here.

Great story! I had the same experience with my yamaha fg110, that i got when I was 14 or so, never thought about it..., it went with me on interrails across Europe in the late 70s and 80s , and it wasnt until i had it laying around in the studio..., that people picked it up an said..."hey...could we use this guitar on this recording?"and of course I said yes..., and since then it has appeared on more records then I have....
I am not surprised. I owned and FG110 years ago. I gave it to a friend. It had a great sound. I found it very balanced.

I have a 1991 Yamaha FG-460sa that I just acquired pretty cheap. It needed a bit of work which I'm finishing at the moment and is just about finished. I've played it as it is and I had a test run with it last night all set-up and I have to say I think I will be keeping this Yamaha. I have a few Yamaha guitars but this one is something else. It plays and sounds like you wouldn't believe, well you would because I imagine they probably sound very similar. What a beautiful guitar and what they sell for I think keeping it is more practical than selling it as I won't get another to like it.
Definitely couldn't buy a new Yamaha for the price this is second hand. Great Guitar.

A singer-songwriter called Dan Arborise used this model. He recorded two beautiful albums over fifteen years ago, especially "Around his circle ".. His music is a mix of John Martyn and Nick Drake. After these two albums, he stopped the music to take probably an other road.

I have a beautiful Yamaha LL16
You never hear anything bad about Yamaha guitars. I'd love to get a A5R ARE that has the wood torrefaction feature. I like how your thumb hangs over the top of the neck (just like mine), and how you look down on the fretboard (just like me). All those university-trained guitar teachers can stuff it. That's darn good playing.
Thank you! I haven't played a bad Yamaha yet. The A5R guitars are very impressive. Sometimes too much training takes the fun out of music so I am ok with a few habits that would frustrate teachers. Cheers!

One thing about Yamaha guitars is they sound great and do not break, crack or warp like all of my martins have.

I own a late 60s Nippon Gakki Red Label FG140,, amazing guitar , loud with deep low end and crispy highs , I put it right up there with my Larrivee and Gibson J45.. Yamaha makes great affordable acoustic guitars for sure ... Your Yamaha sounds Amazing ! Awesome performance by the way 👌
I've got my grandpaws guitars. 69 fg180, 70 fg300 and his Gibson j45 banner. I still prefer the fg180.
Agreed. The FG140 is a great guitar. I know the FG180's get alot of attention however the FG140's are just as solid and impressive tonally. Thanks for the comment also.

My first / beginner's guitar is LL16D I got it almost 6 years ago I love it but now it hurt's my shoulder, I'm thinking of buying LS56. Yamaha is the only brand that gives way more guitar for the money.
I have an FG365SE and an FG840. Two wonderful sounding guitars and now I am looking for a smaller bodied short scale so probably will get an FS830 or CSF3M. I know that with Yamaha you will never be disappointed. Yamaha´s Plywoods (different from laminate) used to be made with 3 layers of the same wood so in effect were almost the same as a solid body but more stable for exporting.
Both of those are great guitars. I recently played the FG840 and it is a stunning instrument especially for the price. My Dad plays one of the original FG 180's and it is built like a tank and yes you are correct it is 3 layers of actual wood. Good Luck on the search for a short scale. I have played the FS830 and it has nice response. The body size mixed with rosewood back and sides is a good combination. I do play the CSF3M and am very pleased with it. The FS830 may be more versatile depending on your intentions though. Cheers

If they get played a lot they get some bumps and bruises. My first guitar was an FG335. I have owned several Yamahas. None ever sounded as good as this one though, lol. Nice playing!
I have a 1976 FG300 I bought new and it is my baby. I also have a Martin HD-35 that to me doesn't play as good or sound as good as my Yamy. I told my wife she can put it in my casket with me when I'm gone.

The first thing I look for is rosewood, and not too laminated.
Your voice on the room mic was terrible, so I didn't hold out much hope for the guitar, but was I wrong, that Guitar is now my favorite sounding guitar, maybe equal to a Martin d-45 but maybe even better, as it has such a unique sound. Thanks for posting.
What model IS this? Is it an FG 365S? I love Yamahas, and have ..... ehhh.....a "considerable number" of them. And I mostly fool with the oldest ones, oddly.

Sounds good Rusty. I own the Yamaha 830 with Rosewood b&s. I have a Yamaha Mahogany FG 820 on the way. Theyre great guitars! 👍👍🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
