This isn’t the first time Marvin Gaye’s family has done this. They need to let him RIP.
It wasn't his family. It was the co-writer of the song and greedy lawyer Ben Crump.
This is not Marvin Gaye family, but Ed Townsend family, the co writer of Let's Get It On.
But yeah, shame on them.
@@farmasinema wasn't the heir of Gaye who filed the lawsuit? I read the news and I'm confused
@@PRT976 its the heir of the copyright, which is the Townsend estate.
Man, 8 years of having to deal with the hassle of court and litigation! Glad it’s over for him and the outcome was in his favor
That new song song he has out, theres a lot.of that sounds like another song , cant remember what it is but think its from mika ? Sounds identical
Sounds like he’s in the United States. People are always challenging copyright laws. I’m glad they do. No one should be able to block an inventer unless they copy the exact design .
Yes the estate of Marvin Gaye is in the US.
What they did to you was SO UNJUST!
Thank goodness you’re not retiring!
One video that’s my favorite, is with you
and Andrea Bocelli! Recording in Italy!
Keep signing! This 70 year old loves
your music! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thats my favorite too. Im just a little older than you.
l love that one too. It is magical. Andrea Bocelli with Ed was amazing and beautiful watching the 2 artists collaborating and sharing together. Their passion for 🎶 music shines through that video. I have a love and respect for such artists that write their own songs and can be with other singers, songwriters, musicians and help motivate and lift each other up to create beautiful music 🎶
Frustrating for Ed and other artists, humans in general that are taken to court. The level, quantity of litigation is unbelievable. We are not used to it in the UK, AUS.
Yes, True Justice! Sorry Ed about this having to go to court, totally agree with you on this.
Amen.. sorry Ed u have to deal with this..8 years 😢
I understand stealing lyrics but chords are just ridiculous
My thoughts exactly!
I think after winning the lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams, Marvin Gaye's estate thought that they could go after other people too.
Its not Marvin Gayes family, its his co writer’s estate
Very articulate! Well said even about a mind boggling idiocy
Common cords are heard in alot of songs. Im not sure if copyright is fair if you cant use a combination thats common.
You deserve this win...🎉🎉 Congrats!!
Every one wants something for nothing thir are only so many later you can use the two songs are nothing a like ed Sheeran is the best ❤
There is a book called steal like an artist. Inspiration is always there as long as art inspires
Loop holes
Yes!!! ridiculous suit. probably cost the kid a fortune and caused anxiety for the 8 years. Bravo, sweetie :)
Somebody should take this family to court for all of these frivolous lawsuits. If you don't steal the melody or the lyrics, you haven't stolen anything. It's despicable that they won the lawsuit against Pharrell Williams for "Blurred Lines." Marvin Gaye was an incredible singer and songwriter, and he's probably turning over in his grave.
Well done ED ❤
Who else feels really bad for Marvin Gaye himself? First his own father murders him with a gunshot, then you have the rest of his family and his co-writer’s family taking advantage of him after death for massive monetary gain. Straight up despicable. Of course, we are very sorry for the unnecessary stress Ed Sheeran had to go through for the trial. It’s such a relief he won, since not only his career is saved, but also all us songwriters’ liberties.
How do you build a musical career by using other people's music a d changing a few musical notes and chords that have repeatedly brought him into litigation over and over again..numerous lawsuits brought before the courts concerning his "original" music. When the music distinctly matches in structure and sound with miniscule changes does not make it ORIGINAL.
You realize there are millions, maybe billions, of songs recorded in history? And only 12 main chords. Of which only certain ones sound good when put together.
I’d like to see you try making ANY song that doesn’t in some way use a part of a song that you’ve heard. It’s impossible. Music writing takes elements of the past while recomposing it in different ways. Unless a song literally mimics another. Lyric-wise, and melody wise especially, there’s no basis for copyright. I challenge you to come up with any sort of chord progression that hasn’t been done before while still sounding good.
@@mitchlang6634 An assortment of musical lyricists and composers have been able to exemplify their OWN musical niche and sound, using the creative talents of those before them, but a direct knock off evident in its composition and arrangement same beats and score, just an octave in pitch and autotuned to perfection does not make an original. Real musical artistry does not just sample others hit tune and tweak them. If you think this was not the music industry setting precedence for further pirateering of music samples. Well then,Okay. It is literally how they make music today. Ask Wolfgang Van Halen ,a real musician, lyricist, composer and musical producer .A real life living musical prodigy, taught by the best and played with the best there is and ever was.Listen to Mammoth WVH. Not some KNOCKOFF mop top ,his hair is not even original ,took that hairstyle from Cousin It of the Addams Family fame.
@@marcosrenegarcia3214 you are so dumb. You named ONE artist who you BELIEVE was totally original. I guarantee there’s some songs out there where he uses the same chords.
If you’re composing a standard song with choruses and verses, you can only have so many possible chord progressions in the back and so many different rhythms. No matter what you string together, someone has done it (any 4 chord pattern).
Blues music all had the same beat/chords. Should the founders sue everyone?
@@marcosrenegarcia3214 additionally, you’re bringing up hair? LMAO
Who the f cares about that? Your precious Wolfgang Van Halen has the most basic hair ever. Why tf would you think anyone could come up with a 100% unique hairstyle when there are billions of people alive today.
@@marcosrenegarcia3214 Eddie Van Halen admitted to copying the synth part on Jump from another song.
There you go.
continue making music young men.
Happy for you and us, Ed !
They already enjoyed years of Marvin Gaye’s money. What else do they want? They’re saying protection for him? No!!!! This is pure greed! Not stereotyping but hmmmmm
Yes it’s pure greed, they should go into politics.
makes sense. well said
100% beautifully said👏👏👏👏
What about the Copyfraud penalty for the loser? Talk about that, too.
Great explanation, hopefully this case will make others think before they make accusations. Congratulations.
Happy for you Ed.
Beautifully said! So sorry you had to deal with this for 8 years.
Congratulations! 🎉
I’m amazed that songwriters can come up with innovative new songs without falling into “Let it Be” or some Motown riff. God bless their creativity.
Excellent commentary by Mr. Sheehan.
I love you Ed Sheeran! Pls keep on writing & singing your music! You inspire lots of people like me! God bless!💖🙏🥂🎀🎉
Admit you borrowed the groove though bro. Come on. Don’t act like it was 100% original. Jesus.
It's just a chord progression...There's a 100 song similar with chord progression. So, why don't sued all artist over around the world with only same chord progression??? That's just a f*cking greed for million dollar lawsuit. Such a shame move by Marvin Gaye's family
@@xo4205It’s not just the chord progression. It’s the same drum line AND same tempo. Ed ripped it off.
@@Kevin.Kelly. Nope. Tempo doesn't have copyright and it's normal. Still the drumline are different. As a musician, it's total ridiculous to claim copyright that does not 100% similarity.
@@xo4205 Yup, drum line is the same along with tempo and chord progression. It’s the same. As a musician, it sounds ridiculously the same. I’m going to start making money off of karaoke I suppose. Everything’s the same but the vocal.
Ref Ed Sheen on RTL Live (4 chords)
DNA is made of 4 components in varying order and sequences. These many various combinations create people of diverse characteristics. Yet, 2 persons, totally unrelated, can look and appear very similar even as twins do. Shall we outlaw one of them?
Eyy i love him. Leave him alone. Who first dis Hound Dog? It wasnt Elvis. 😉🤲👉👇
Ed,don't worry,be happy
Impossible. disappointed to law?
Love you 😊 love your music too! So sorry you ever had to deal with this nonsense. Well said statement. Thank you for that. All the best to you going forward. Hope to catch your show. 🤗
I totally agree with you Ed. Thank the good Lord this it's over. It's too bad that people have to take this ignorance of artistry to court. I'm so glad you won and in my heart i knew you would win!!! Love you Ed
ed, make what's in you to give the world. it wants to hear your heart sing.
❤ my friend.
Well said. So happy they ruled in your favor.
i AGREE THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS you win and yes, you should never should had to go to court ... NOW SUE THAT PERSON FOR DEFAMATION
Trust him, he is a really good musician.
Always a motorcyclist coming it at the best of times
I'm sure it's harley davidson
Glad for him and agree it was a loss of time.
Omg I couldn’t be more happier. Well done for fighting it
Congratulations, Ed
Did Marvin Gaye take any chords from Beethoven 🤔🤔😱. This is getting ridiculous 😂😂😂
Such class
Well sad from the original and authentic mind 👌🏼👏
Actually, many colors of blue are patented especially in the auto industry.
My wedding song 😍♥️ & ring tone 😊
He is right and I’m glad of the outcome!! He didn’t do anything wrong. It wasn’t the same! 🎉
ladys and gentlemen... i am proud to tell you all.. i need more money
Ed went on to say; "That said, let's be clear. ChatGPT is the real enemy."- 😮
Agree with Ed 100%. The Blurred Lines decision was terrible.
great to hear that
I love you, Ed Sheeran, your precious time and efforts were both wasted on this, and you deservedly won...but colors CAN be trademarked 😏
👏👏👏👏👏
Well said.
Don't use someone else music
Marvin gay family try to sue everyone. And they didn’t even make the music credit the engineers
09
Once again, it’s not Marvin’s family, it’s his co-writer’s family.
Oh sh*t I think I just stole a twelve bar blues from, from ...... well everyone really
Total plagiarism.
EIGHT YEARS
LOVE HIM
Wait he didn't pay Marvin Gayes estate for "thinking out loud" that was a direct use of the melody it is definitely the same which is why it resonated with the black community. He's wrong for this... dude stole that melody and got away with it smh. Yeah I will never listen to this dude again. Plagiarism is Plagiarism no matter how you shake it. When I listen to "thinking out loud" I hear "lets get it on" PERIOD.
What is up with y’all’s hair
Congratulations
CONGRATULATIONS
Do you go looking for a different way he’s just got his own record plug for free
well u cant really say anything abt the people who file this case bcoz u know ! its 2023 😂😂
He looks like Boris Johnson’s son
I personally wish he was successfully sued. His music is highly unoriginal and derivative.
What a bunch !😂😂😂😂
Too bad he won. I was looking forward to him quitting.
looks like he has a mullet ✌️
wow we need a engilsh man to tell us like it is
Fantastic news Ed.. your music is the greatest......Marvin who? Ffs
