They are so short sighted. The first video of yours that I watched was "What Makes this Song Great - More than a Feeling". I immediately went to iTunes and purchased the Boston album. Exposing people to great music is a win-win for everyone.
The great thing about that series is that no matter how many times you’ve heard a song, you didn’t hear what Rick hears. When he gets done pointing things out, you think: “Damn! He’s Right! That is a great song”. I’ve never been the biggest Boston fan, but I had the same reaction. Any artist or publisher should be honored to have a song covered in that series. Rick should have a video kiosk in The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to remind people why they are there.
It looks like Steve Lukather and Elliot Easton hopped on Twitter *just* to add their support to Rick. Neither one of them seems to spend much time on Twitter (not compared to some other artists I follow!), but they made a point of showing up and commenting on this issue. 👍 👍 👍
Quite true/ Good for them and us.
I just noticed Easton actually linked to his video a month ago when it came out on facebook
I don't get why anyone wouldn't want a Rick Beato video about their song. Thanks for championing music.
so basically the only way to get rid of a copyright strike is being famous or have connections that can apply social pressure... that's what f*d up
yup..
Exactly! Average unconnected creators, you're guilty until proven innocent... because that's the way laws should work?
@Peter Johnson I looked for them but could not find them.. would you put the link please?
Here's an idea that may rock the system 💡: "Hotel California Cover Day" - All creators will upload a Hotel California cover to their channels at the same day.
It shouldn't be about how you play, it's just to deliver the message.
With so many blocked videos maybe someone will finally wake up... Should be interesting!
that’d surely get the attention of everyone, especially don henleys ol self
Man I have the solo covered with video but never bothered to upload it anywhere because i know whats gonna happen..even small channels will upload it. I would be done with hotel California cover day
This is a superb idea.
I would love to see this! 🤗 Great idea!
Let’s do this
Rick is giving free promotion to these artists sometimes two or three generations past their commercial relevance. They should thank their lucky stars!
Rick is a VERIFIED teacher, a professor of music. Why in the world would a qualified person not be able to teach? This is ridiculous.
@@BrianVallotton there are millions of verified teachers. unfortunately copyright is a complicated legal structure, which doesn’t default to the side of our opinions. hopefully the laws and enforcement will change with community efforts like this one.
It’s like a university professor being blocked from doing a lecture on a great literary work
Hit the nail on the head!
@@fazzxides8429 Dude man Fazz- so simply stated, and So True.
Brings up the whole conversation of what is "freedom of speech"/ knowledge sharing and what truly copyright infringement, or more precisely stated- abuse or theft.
RICK is in NO way doing any of those "types" of prohibited activities.
These Morons/ legal bastards in the industry have to learn the difference between stealing/profiting off someone else's music vs. actually Promoting the crap out of it, (decades later often), as in Rick's channel, over and over again.
Good comment Fazz.
TLDR: because Rick has 2 million subscribers, and the publishers already make money off his videos, he is able to reverse copyright strikes through pressure campaigns. Very glad for him, really, I'm glad to have his videos. But probably wouldn't work for someone with 200 subscribers instead of 2 million.
That’s the very important point and it’s a place of a privileged position of a massive UA-camr having the social clout to pressure these big labels for their specific case. Something that doesn’t improve or help the system as a whole or smaller content creators.
More over that leverage could be used to help smaller channels by actually challanging the system correctly. A legal challange by a big well funded channel would help everyone.
I'd say the 2+m helps, but being well known in the music industry, maybe a bigger factor. I think if he had 1k or 2k Rick would still be able to do it, as most of the artists know him and will give him their support. Whereas a Mr nobody would not get that support.
or 6 like me lol
Exactly I see guys with huge following never get pressed for playing music. I heard that labels will text them or dm them to react to a song. Someone with a small following would never get that
Don’t let these companies get to you, you are doing so much for everyone to learn and have passion for your teaching and love for music! Keep up the great work, we love you!!
I got an airline to reverse a ridiculous fee by outing them on Twitter. It's annoying that the only way you can make a company do what is right is by public shaming.
Public shaming assholes rips ass
Wish I could say I’ve never had to do this but unfortunately have, several times.
That's how i got my rental deposit back.. Twice. Stood in front of their real estate office with acardboard sign for about 45 minutes! They try to shame me lol "all this over $500 "...best response "Well you are willing to be a thief over $500." Whenever someone lets them get away with it. Keep it and lie to get people to give up but second guess someone asking for their own money. Weirdos encouraged by the legalized antics of corporations and politicians. Love and music will prevail. Just hard not to be like "them" in the process.
Unfortunately. that's why Twitter rage mobs have made big business a quivering woke mess.
Money must be funny
Rick you went from knowing nothing about youtube to being an OG laying the pavement down for others to go down that road. I humbly tip my hat and bow. I have been watching you for a long time. Fight for it with sharing the truth.....
When I listen to him talk about this stuff, it blows my mind. Blows my mind either how much he doesn't know or how dumb hes acting. Either one blows my mind.
There once was a time, where democracies understood, how important it is to give everyone the same power when it comes to legal issues. That's when they decided the legal path is "innocent until proven guilty". How the music industry managed to lever out this principle with approval by democracies is beyond me. In school we were taught about music by example. We listened to Jimi Hendrix' Star Spangled Banner and the teacher analyzed, why it's so great. Imagine a guy from a label stormed the class, took the record and told the teacher "first strike, on the third you're not allowed to do your job anymore". It's scary where the world heads to.
AFAIK, presumption of innocence is granted only in criminal law, not in civil law
I finally bought your ear training course. Sure, I want to have a better ear but I also want to support the person who has made this quarantine so much easier. I've spent a lot of time watching your videos. They make me feel inspired and happy, I'm so grateful to have found them. Thanks Rick!! I also love how much fun your cool kids are having with music! Children and Art.
Rick, You are amazing. I discovered you about 6 months ago and am just blown away by your expertise. Thank you for standing up for music education and music commentary.
How did it take you so long to find Rick? Rick, Rhett, and Dave are awesome. Rick would be a great for you to interview.
@@imastupid7598 I’m not really a UA-cam guy. I’ve only ever used it to watch live performances and music vids in the past. I discovered Rick from a comment to one of my videos a while back.
I bounce between Your Channel and Rick’s Professor! I agree it would be awesome to have you two do some collaboration!
he's a really young " professor " for rock .... fedora lol
@@imastupid7598 maybe
So glad this backfired so quickly.
The downside in general, of course, is that you have to know famous people and you need to be famous yourself for this to work. If I get a copyright strike on my tiny 3 vid channel, there is no way out of this for me, because I just don't have that kind of leverage. So I have to step around copyrighted material extremely carefully, and even then I can theoretically have my original content stolen by someone who then files a copyright claim _against me,_ just like it happened to Paul Davids. And I would be completely powerless to do anything about it.
The outrage remains: if it takes counting Lukather among your admirers for this to work, then the music industry is indeed fucked up beyond recognition.
This is not true. Any channel can hurt the reputation of those blockers by just tagging the right people in their posts. You bet they're gonna blow up regardless of who you are or who your friends are. Hurting blockers reputations is the only way to fight it because only then will they get their arse going.
@@metalpuppet5798 you're just proving his point by mentioning "right people"
Wow when did this happen to Paul?
@@benjaminz.l.9617 It's the first hit under "paul davids copyright". Just search.
@@metalpuppet5798 Unfortunately the "right people" will mean verified accounts. Usually Blue Ticks will not see tags from unverified accounts and in many cases (for good reasons) will set themselves to only see notifications from accounts they are following. I'm sure Steve L and Elliot E are already following Rick, or seeing RTs from people who are. Your average
Rick, I am 39. I have been drumming since 9 years old. My youngest son is 11, he's been drumming since he was 2. I just want to say I love your videos and I find them quite valuable. Love your takes and you content my man!!
I recently did a zoom video interview with two musicians who appeared on a classic album by Australian artist Chris Wilson, who passed away a couple of years ago. I got a copyright claim against the interview by Warner Music, even though there was NO MUSIC used in the interview whatsoever. I’m assuming the claim was made because I used the full title of the album and the artist’s name (Chris Wilson-Live at The Continental) in the clip title. I challenged the claim and won but it took 7 days for the decision to be made. I posted the clip on the day of the album release (it was actually a re-release of the album from 27 years ago) and anyone who works with social media knows that the first few days of posting is crucial, especially when it ties in with a release date. As far as I was concerned they robbed me of vital exposure time but to them it’s just another baseless claim. So thank you for fighting your copyright strikes on behalf of independent online publishers around the world.
UA-cam and these corporations should give Rick a special license for education especially since he's a credible content creator/educator.
Why just Rick? Everybody has a right to teach and use the "fair use" clause, blocked videos need to be contested
True, if they just take a look at the channel then they wouldn't have a problem.
@@punkassfunk very true, but its just a start and it would make a huge difference. Once Rick's channel has been cleared for teaching then any other teaching channel should be able to make a successful case for themselves.
@@titmusspaultpaul5 I respect Rick immensely, but he is not "above" any other person. The fight should be for the whole, not for a single person which makes no sense to me. If Rick would be "cleared" as you say, then automatically, everybody should also
@@punkassfunk I agree here and I found this video rather sombering. Similarly, I respect Rick, but whilst he was gleeful 'using' influential people to defeat this matter in his case, it did nothing for any other creator or the possibility of the same treatment further down the track.
I was hoping to hear that Rick did actually find out who he needed to respond to in order to contest the matter & an amicable solution and understanding had been found.
I guess I was overly optimistic. This was no more than it's:
Not what you know, but who you know.
Unfortunately, the bulk of UA-camrs run only small channels, without the clout to call in influential colleagues.
"I don't make AC/DC videos..."
For those about to Block, we salute you!
💀😂🤘
More like “For those about to Block, we Strike you!”
Best comment! 😹😹😹😹
Played it loud in the car just a few days ago.
"For those about to Block, we avoid you!"
Some accountability needs to be built in to the system, for false claims, frivolous claims, and for just plain old identification of the complaining party, so a content creator can contact them to appeal.
Thanks for making sense out of what we all love... good music. I’m in my mid sixties and love sharing my love for music with my son by watching your videos together. Any major dude in the music industry should tell you how appreciative they are that you have taken the time to promote their music. Your are a music historian and archeologist unearthing the hidden components of a great song, performance and production. Thanks. I’m so grateful.
Of course Lukather was one of the guys to stand up and support. I couldn't be more of a fan of that guy, hes such a cool dude and a classic in every way
Absolutely, reading the gospel according to Luke at the moment, him and his band got stitched up left right and centre on song writing credits, performance royalties etc. Won some too.🇭🇲
I was just telling a friend what a tragedy a loss of your content would be. What Makes This Song Great? is one of the best things on the internet.
Rick, it IS UA-cam... On this platform "fair use" applies to some people and not others. Every time I upload a cover video (a COVER VIDEO!), I get blocked as soon it finishes uploading. I'm not trying to monitize them. I don't even make them publicly viewable! I just want to be able to give the link to friends and interested parties (as a kind of video audition or resume), but I get blocked every time. Yet UA-cam is FULL of cover videos by other people, and channels where you can listen to (or download) the original song (or the entire album!), and UA-cam leaves them alone.
Doesn't happen to me, probly cause mine are so bad
Are you writing all the misc. disclaimers I see on on other covet videos?
I recall I used to have the same problem when I used windows moviemaker ..... I fixed it by changing the format before I uploaded it.
Try work out how you are gettin blocked.
A. Are you using master tracks backing?
B. Are you playing others backing tracks
C. Your keywords in title.
Not 100% on youtubes audio algorithms. I know they can sense 100% official. Master backing tracks. Other parties backing tracks. But not sure if a AI can recognise a freshly made version?
If its for friends/family etc. Try not putting artist name/song in title?
Be interesting to see just how clever the scan bots are.
Same here
Rick, you are keeping this music alive, I, IMHO, think people like yourself should receive recognition and or compensation for your work, it's incredible! So happy I found your channel, please keep grinding man!
Steve Lukather - omg love Toto - I'm a fan. So cool he supports your stance.
Steve, Steve, Steve yeah!!!!
Paul Davids did an interesting video 2 years ago, "Craziest Copyright Strike", when he had a strike against him for one of his own compositions that someone else had used and put out on UA-cam.
Wow that’s insane.
Yep... I saw that...
UA-cam needs to block UA-cam.
Remember when John Fogerty got sued for sounding too much like Jon Fogerty because he was no longer in CCR. lol
@@Robster-Craw That would be like if Paul McCartney got sued for sounding too much like the Beatles.
I'm so glad that you stood up for yourself and us, your loyal listeners. And I am so happy the strikes have been rescinded. You're a good man Rick and you have a good heart. We love you for it!!!!
I’m a Music Educator and I did a recruiting video for my beginning band/orchestra students this past Fall. My colleague and I demonstrated Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on seven different instruments. I received a copyright claim on that video for (wait for it!) playing Twinkle Twinkle on trombone ONLY! Obviously this video wouldn’t have been monetized anyway because it’s for kids but seriously?! THIS is ridiculous! 🤦🏼♀️ I totally agree with you that this hurts music education.
twinkle twinkle is derived from a Mozart song (theme and variations) and is public domain is it not!? wth?
@@brendonpenn3126, yes. That’s right.
This channel introduces people to classic music that is no longer played on radio.
The powers that be who block the content just shoot themselves in the foot.
Can’t say how many times I’ve looked up the songs and appreciated what Rick teaches us
Rick introduced me to Journey. A band I knew about kind of but were not big in Australia at the time I was getting into music. Well not big on my radar.
I actually just tried this with my channel on a copyright claim that happened literally 5 minutes after I posted the video. Went ahead and filled out the dispute last night, but took to Instagram and wondered why. Early this morning they removed the claim. Thanks Rick for the tips! Really hope they figure this out so it’s better for creators and for the people who own the copyrights.
"What Makes This Song Great" is free advertizing for the record labels.
It's likely not even the labels at this point doing this. It's rights holders of all stripes that have purchased the portfolios long ago. The artists likely don't see a dime of this, or if they do, it goes right back out the door to pay the person who helped file the claim in the first place. It's lawyers and VPs making the money, not the artists. If it was the artists actually making money off this, nobody would even bat an eye.
@@phillipemery572 It's very common for an artist to retire and then sell their back catalog to someone. I know Rush did that when they retired.
Well except for the cars.
The bean counters never get that!!! Suits in the office. Music flows, gets shared.
Why don’t these companies realise that this is free advertising? When I watch your channel it makes me do three things. I either go out and buy the music, download it or listen to it again. Even bands that I love and are totally familiar with, your take on their songs can highlight something I’ve missed so I revisit it. We live in a crazy world, good luck to you and thanks for a very enjoyable channel.
Keep up the good fight Rick. Glad the social pressure you created made a difference. Hopefully it's a cascading effect and all this insanity will soon be behind us.
Wow... The-Art-of-Guitar is in the building. Love your videos bro 👍
Didn't know you were around here, Mike. Totally makes sense, though! :D
He didn’t fight at all, he just admitted he testified that music teachers DO NOT deserve money from music lessons online. He just admitted that “he doesn’t need money, so fair use and transformative and derivative works according to ACTUAL LAW do not apply”.
He just admitted because the system he helped them create is broken, you should make some famous or rich friends in order to TEACH MUSIC ONLINE.
Not only did not stand up for content creation or free speech or actual copyright law, HE HELPED them to create the mechanisms to censor and ban everyone at will, and it came back to haunt even him in the end.
@@ghost-user559 no... music teachers are able to earn revenue from other means that aren't just teaching how to play songs in their videos. They make courses, create videos that have original content, sell merch etc
@@Vivi_9 I understand that with the current corruption of the law and illegal ai strikes, that what you are saying becomes necessary now.
But think about what you really just said, a music teacher has to SELL MERCH to make a legitimate income off of their life skill set?
That isn’t music lessons, that’s entrepreneurship. That’s an entirely separate set of skills such as online marketing, branding, graphic design, social media outreach, videography and editing (online course). You are essentially saying “you need several other careers with entirely separate skillsets to follow your one lifelong career”. Isn’t that absolutely ludicrous for average people?
According to the law an old man with no abilities besides his honed instrumental ability should be able to simply upload and share his skills, AND make a living with his skill set.
You are saying that a person has to do everything EXCEPT that actual skill of music lessons to actually make money due to the unlawful abuse of automatic systems used to “enforce copyright infringement”.
The issue is the law allows an individual to use a certain number of consecutive measures of music without penalty or permission, and a music teacher can use musical examples (within reason) without infringing upon rights holders as this is fair use. Furthermore a music lessons IS transformative use of copyrighted content and fully capable of being used as a source of income for the TEACHER, not the rights holders of the brief snippets of music used within legal boundaries for examples.
You are saying that someone has to be MORE than a music teacher to actually make an income AS a music teacher. That is not legal or fair. That is literally choosing whether or not another human has value and is allowed to live based on the value that the ai gives them.
The algorithms used to automatically flag copyrighted content are not legal instruments, nor are the social media programmers judges or governments with any legal authority.
To make an automated system that inherently violates fair use and actual copyright allowances and prevents ordinary people with valuable skills from sharing them by AUTOMATICALLY stealing their revenue without any legal process or representation is absolutely unlawful and utterly corrupt.
If someone’s grandfather wants to turn on a webcam and tech you how to play along to an old 45 record, he shouldn’t have to be a social media upsell guru with a Shopify account and product placement to teach future generations his skills and enhance his income while doing so.
The ai that runs these social media networks violate the very laws of the country they operate within. They have no legitimate reason to blanket censor any and all “copyrighted content” because they are not a legal institution.
Most people (with the exception of piracy and abuse) are considered fair use AND transformative, and under the law this platform has therefore stolen billions if not trillions from ordinary citizens, while paying off the labels, publishers, and film studios to ABUSE the law.
Just because no one can afford to stand up for themselves and stop them does not make what they are doing legal or moral. It is purely a digital mafia, syphoning money from average content creators who do not even realize they are fully within their legal rights. They take those peoples money and still post ads on their content (which they already have appropriated for bogus violations) therefore doubling the theft of income.
I agree with you, smart people can do ten other things besides their skill set and invest years honing a multitude of additional skills.
By definition that is not making money actually pursuing their skill set, while it is legally fully within their rights to do so.
God Bless Lukather. What a class act. His audiobook is incredible. Rick you're awesome, keep at it!
Luke is a great player, and by example...A total gentleman. THANK YOU,LUKE!!
Rick - thank you for sharing. Thank you for teaching us lessons you learned, thank you for sharing your attitude. You make the social media a better place. Stay healthy. Thank you.
In the past 2 years I've had 3 video projects blocked for using copyrighted music - that I paid for!! I was able to get the blocks lifted but frustrated that I had to go thru the effort in the 1st place. You've got some great content and I like the way you're handling this.
”Don’t go on UA-cam and tell people how good our songs are! You should really pay us money just thinking about them.”
I need you to start a series called “How to listen to Jazz.” I could listen to you explaining Jazz music for hours. Thanks for the education.
Rick you teach not only music, but also wisdom..how you deal with adversity is a life lesson in itself..wishing you the best..and thanks for your hard work
“What makes this song great” is the greatest musical content on UA-cam. Such a shame about all the hassle for you man.
If you get an unfair copyright strike, just get your world famous friends to make public statements about the record company and it’ll get fixed in no time. It’s that easy!
Yep, and out the laughable, pop trash band while were at it.
Are his world famous friends connected to the mafia, if not, it probably won't work.
And if you're a small channel and a nobody that just does it for fun.. you get fucked
IgorVonE Yeah, even though Rick Beato is knowledgeable, he’s also sometimes woefully out of touch.
What's even more unsettling about this video is once I saved a link to watch a video and one day when I clicked on the link, a box came up stating something like, "Video blocked by Steve Lukather". Destroyed my love for Toto. I never purchased a Toto or Lukather song again, plus skipped their concert when their tour came through town.
If only they would realize: what makes this song great = a spike in downloads on apple, spotify, ect,ect....for the song.
They don't really see that. The suits making a lot of these calls have antiquated boomer ideas about music. They don't understand the concept of free advertisement. They rather scrape pennies now than make 100 dollars in a week or so.
That my friend would require a modicum of common sense.
even if that weren’t the case, he should still have every right to use that music to educate freely. education is transformative and a net benefit to society, even if it provides no financial benefit to the copyright owners, hell even if it was a financial detriment to them, education is and should always be more important than the bottom line of any corporation
I have said this before and I'll say it again thank you! for all that you've done! Your channel has been an inspiration for so many including myself. It isn't easy to be challenged and it is an easy to have to challenge those of authority. You may not like having to do it; I am grateful that you have what it takes i.e the fan base, experience and the knowledge of the industry, etc. to take on these big issues.
Keep rockin on!
I grew up in Atlanta. I went to North Springs High School up Roswell Rd. And graduated 1983. I was a percussionist in band, drum section leader in marching band. What I didn’t know about music at the time was how it would help me with engineering. Music is the back door into mathematics.
I am basically a non musically inclined guy. No talent whatsoever. But I like watching your videos because they are interesting and I respect the art. So, the thing I “get” from your videos is basic and simple: enjoyment
I'll go one step further and presume that the enjoyment you get comes from getting a viewpoint that you wouldn't normally have about the music you already enjoy. Even I, as a musician, get that by hearing Rick's take on songs and sometimes I get a whole new appreciation for a song or I'll get turned onto a new song. Or sometimes I'll disagree with Rick. But I'm thinking a non-musician will get a completely new perspective on music by listening to Rick's commentary. In every case this only helps the original artist, making these takedowns illogical and counterproductive.
The musicians should be grateful that their "forgotten" music is being highlighted. Cars music and Simon and Garfunkel are not tunes you hear on the radio today and exposing some of this great music to the next generation who would otherwise never hear it should be looked at with a wider scope rather than striking someone for pointing out what makes a song great. Case and point...my son is 21 years old and one day I was playing Jethro Tull and he was blown away. He asked me who I was listening to and I told him. The next thing I know is he is online ordering cds and vinyl box sets of Jethro Tull. So Jethro Tull just got another sale because someone helped school the next generation of what great music really is. Bottom line is....Rick does a huge service to not only his channel and fan base but to all of the artists he spotlights on his channel and they should all be grateful that there are people out there who still promote their music. Keep up the fight and keep doing what you are doing.
The strike from The Cars blew me away. This series has been awesome for me and taught me so much, as it’s intended to do. The Cars were one of my favorite bands that my parents introduced me to in my youth, and still to this day. So when he made that video, I was very excited. It was one of my favorites! Then they come out and give him a strike? Gimme a freaking break.
These artists should be grateful he’s taking the time to break their songs to show to people! I would be honored. Hell, I’d want to be a guest and do an interview to talk about it even more!
I didn't like either of those artists anyways, they can pound sand, whinie has beens!!!!!
You're overestimating the intelligence of record label companies. Logic isn't their strong point.
I hear the cars on the radio almost every day. I suppose it depends on which stations you listen too. Classic rock stations play the cars all the time. I hear simon and Garfunkel occasionally.
@Andy Arriaga they probably get flagged by bots but doesn't the company with rights to the music have to give the ok?
Rick.... congratulations on getting those strikes taken down. You have the pure heart of a teacher and it’s so awesome to watch your videos on these great songs so I can realize why I loved them so much and share them with my children.
I love and admire your passion for teaching and learning. Fighting the good fight. RESPECT!
RICK!!! ELLIOT EASTON FROM THE CARS POSTED ON YOUR TWITTER POST AS WELL!!!
Anyone should be so lucky, as to have Rick Beato cover one of their tunes
I think they should be paying him. That might be a solution, if they pay him to produce content, they're not going to want it taken down. They profit from all the extra streams and downloads.
Rick, you're the man! I wish I had your talent, and what you're doing is so awesome for great music. I don't always agree with every list you make but I respect all you do. Don't ever stop!
Thanks for sharing, Rick!
Glad to hear the strikes were deleted.
Bummer for the rest of us without high-profile friends. UA-cam has made a mockery of Fair Use.
The thing is, UA-cam is (partially falsely) claiming to be just a public platform as opposed to a publisher. What that means is, that if you want to argue Fair Use for any content, you have to go to a court or directly talk to the person that holds the copyrights --- NOT UA-cam. UA-cam is only providing a simple (and junky) interface for disputing copyright strikes. UA-cam is smartly and logically ditching the responsibility for the content of its users (not always the case and let's not pretend they are impartial or unbiased in any way). After all it's a private business operation. I'm not saying it is morally justified or fair, but if you don't agree, create your own platform or join a different one - you get the idea. In that light, I'd say that the fact that you can get 3 copyright strikes and only then you get banned is pretty generous. I know, the world is fucked up, but that's how it is.
If you don't have the contacts like Beato, and who does, maybe just tag him.
@@Wolf-Spirit_Alpha-Sigma Easy solution, since this is really all about $$, is for YT to charge a processing fee to all content creators that upload copyrighted material, for which the content creator does NOT own the copyrights to. That fee goes to the entity or entities claiming copyright, with the agreement that the claimants cannot sue, remove or modify in any form the content creators' work. If you were a smart content creator, you would include an opening intro for which you can also claim a copyright to your performance on the video and become one of the entities entitled to a portion of the fee. But we all know, that won't happen.
Jonathan Stewart I have nothing meaningful to add other than just to agree with you. It's what I've been thinking the whole time. It's how the universe works. I have personally witnessed the power of it that saved a relative as unjustly as the other party probably felt. Powerful connections only benefits those that have it. Granted Rick earned it and deservedly so with his great contents.
Rick, I am in awe of the work you do. I give full respect to your battles with the blockers and still have the passion to share. I have a burning question. How do you separate the music in such a surgical way? You would remark on a harmony extracted so clearly, you can still hear the breath the singer makes? WOW !!
Thanks Rick just bought your book. My Daughter is joining school and i'm inspired to get my theory up so that i can volunteer to sub at their kids jazz club. Your love of music really moves me. Keep fighting for whats right. You're only trying to educate us using music that we all love. Thanks again.
The sad thing is that probably anyone less known than you goes through the same, they would not have their copyright strikes removed.
a lot of SMALL creators have said they DID WIN when they fight back, b/c it's just DUMB BOTS making these DUMB decisions; but YT made it HARDER TO FIGHT BACK by removing CONTACT info so the creators can't contact the HUMANS instead of the BOTS.

I appreciate the WMTSG series so much. Not only does it introduce me to artists I am not familiar with, it teaches me to listen with a critical ear. I've learned reasons behind why I might like a song at first but get sick of it quickly. I've learned why I might be disinterested in a song in the first few listens but it becomes a favorite later. I've learned why I like a song on the first listen and never tire of it even thirty years later.
You have taught me how to appreciated music subtlety I had no idea to pay attention to. You're a great music teacher. Thank you!
I'm so glad things ended up working out after all that fiasco. I found Rick's channel about a year ago and it's great; we need more channels like this.
Glad to hear the news Rick!

I am too, but my concern is what recourse is there for a little known content producers?
More would have been fixed if the strike was not removed.
I’m super glad - now I can listen to The Cars again - my little boycott is over.

So glad you were able to get these strikes taken down! Good for you for challenging them publically and for rallying the troops. I posted on your rant how Paul Simon has been a personal hero of mine (I call him my only guitar teacher. I dropped the needle over & over on his vinyl recordings in the early 1970s and figured out his riffs and chording on my own). I am still disappointed but at least he listened and responded.
One more thing, Rick you are a great fan that went to great lenths by taking the time to learn these songs at times on more than one instrument, and not only that, but often the technique and the equipment used to record the music as well. That is very honorable and a huge compliment to the artist, IMO. And you do it well....
I just wish you’d realize that your video isn’t going to get taken down for disputing these claims. It’s fair use, plus it resets after 90 days, and people have these strikes reversed every single day. We need people like you to be fighting this crap, man! Especially people intimately familiar with the industry.
If you heard the the beginning of the Live feed, you'd know he had 2 strikes in 2 days. One more and his channel would've been history; I doubt Rick would want to even bother about fighting it if it came that.
Bravo Rick - glad you were able to clear those strikes!
@@akagerhard that is the dumbest reply I have read this morning.
Did you even listen to Rick's rant the other day? He explains how this all is supposed to work, and your "explanation" is not it.
@@akagerhard yeh but is it not true that he has this reach because he’s a good guy, entertaining and engaging, interesting intelligent and articulate (esp musically) ? And these are some of the things that we like about him... and altogether this means he has influence... but it’s not Rick that’s the Devil 👿 dude !!! Even if he has the power to stop the train where us little guys might just get crushed...

@@akagerhard what a sanctimonious post. Completely missing the point. Did you not listen to the previous video explaining about what has happened and his explanation because the post suggests you haven't?
Moving away from this & other morally bankrupt platforms is the only way forward & people such as Rick should lead the way!
Rick thank you for standing up to these companies. Keep up the great work.
Hey Rick!
Thanks for stepping up for our ability to share insights and love about amazing stuff we already know and share. Fair and Use are interesting words (und I tink it iz about time ve uzed dem!!)

They have to realize that you are selling their music. Most of the songs are older and they aren't selling millions of records now. But your videos shows why the music was great and gives them a new audience
As a musician I love your "what makes this song grat" series. I love how you highlight small intricacies within songs, that actually make the songs great. Several times you have done songs that I, and everyone else is probably very familiar with, and you'll highlight one simple sound, or technique that changes the whole perspective of a song for me. My current re-favorite song is "more than a feeling" by Boston simply because of the way you broke it down, and showed the actual brilliance that was in that song. Thank you for doing what you do. Keep on rocking bro. I'll keep on watching.
I'm so glad for you, Rick! Keep up the amazing work.
New Series: What makes this song mediocre?
That’s definitely gonna get him blocked lol
He did this already... the videos are called "What's in this weeks top 10"
Or: What makes this band suck?
Without any talent.....
@@kenithnixon645 I'm hitting at the belt, not below it. LOL! Definitely treacherous territory.
They should just add into the algorithm 'if it's by Rick Beato it's fine'.
The start out with a little song is a great idea. After we pick our jaws off the floor we listen on to your incredibly cool and insightful commentary. Keep up the good you are doing!
Tus análisis me encantan. En realidad enseñas con ellos. Admiro tus conocimientos y como los compartes con honestidad. Gracias Rick
Awesome Rick, when I hear copyright strikes are removed from channels that should definitly never have to deal with it, it's like a weight lifted off the shoulders. I should really make a Twitter account just for these sort of things, seems it helped you lots of times.
@@GiuseppeM Right. The problems are structural, as in UA-cam doesn't give a crap about Content Makers, only about keeping their billions of ad dollars flowing.
Nicely done, Rick.
The only way to fix things is to make as much noise as you can and pray someone listens. If you’re a smaller creator you’re basically screwed. UA-cam’s system sucks.
Bless your heart...your amazing..keep teaching us..we love you!
Congratulations man👍
So happy to know everything about the strikes got worked out.
Love your demeanor.

I got totally messed over on the contracts I signed to recapture the copyrights to my Grandfather and Granduncle of The Louvin Brothers music.
Honestly, the "what makes this song great" series is the best. Loved the Tool breakdowns.
Absolutely wicked.
We're all in this together one way or another, Rick.

Bravo Rick - keep fighting the good fight! Your videos are excellent and very helpful for musicians and songwriters.
We'll always be on your side on this. They are going full stupid on this, you are educating the world through their music
EXACTLY!!! How else is this amazing music supposed to survive if they don't play any of it on top radio.
The problem is they aren't taking the context into account when they strike the video.
The sad thing is, I’m sure there’s a number of UA-camrs under 1M that don’t have the contacts for the labels or artists to care when they’re wrongly given a strike. Seen so many videos from smaller channels talking about how UA-cam have screwed them.
Good man Rick ... keep the good work up and I hope the bands and artists you promote appreciate the work you do and promote you in return ...🎸
Your content is really interesting and you’re a really great teacher. Thanks for doing all that you do.
It makes sense, they block everyone who is possibly miss using their music, (paint everyone with the same brush) but once a content creator like you is brought to their attention and they see what you’re doing is beneficial to them, they rectify the problem.
It’s probably impossible for them to watch every video they block.
@@mykhedelic6471 but what about someone that doesn't have a lot of followers?
I can now enjoy listening to "the cars" again :) Thanks Rick
Rick, I love listening and learning from what you do. Glad this Copyright Strike episode worked out in your favor.

Richard Jones at the London Stationer's Company in September 1580, was simply brilliant. I got it.
The Force is strong with this one.
Hi, Rick. I just bought the RB Bundle 4. I have to say: your material is incredibly good! I have been studying and playing music for over 20 years, and I think your book is an amazing compilation of music theory that every student and musician should have! Great job, man!
Both my grandfathers died before I was born so I come here to get my fix of grandfather complaining conversation. I never make it through but I try, I really do.
Love you Rick! I'm extremely happy to hear that the ridiculous garbage is behind you. I was livid when I saw how you were being treated. Keep up with all your great work! 💯😎💜🤘
Every time I have watched a “what makes this song great” video I have streamed the featured song multiple times. Often for days after watching!
2.1 million subscribers have to add ip to something. It’s hard to believe there are bands who don’t want free advertising.
I’ll never understand it. Especially when it can just be demonitized and the artist gains all the money. They get money and exposure, but say no to both?
I can't stop looking at the Gibson Les Pauls over Rick's shoulder....
I know...do you think he would miss one?
You are so cool, man. 👍🏻
So true. And I like your position towards all this striking and blocking.
It's insane that these bands don't see how beneficial this "FREE" promotion is. Duh.
Don't hate the bands, hate the labels. The Cars didn't know about this bullshit I'm sure.
@@rayres1074 This. The labels are basically sniveling and clawing at any shred of power and short-term money from the industry they used to run free in. The aging execs' miserly hopes and dreams from the 80's and 90's when they got into the industry have disappeared in front of their eyes. Copyright striking is the only modicum of self-affirmation they have left to them.
