Hello, so please red this post. As someone who worked over a decade in wild bird rescue I'm trying to educate you and please don't feel I am criticizing in any way. The 99% cause you found the bird like that was that the bird hit the glass outside your balcony. This is almost always the case when bird is found just siting down on ground just under a window or wall. When this happens bird can be injured in 3 main ways, just stunned - brain suffered a nasty shake but OK, or neck or brain injury. In either case you want to bring the bird inside, put it in a small dark and warm spot. Shoe box is great. You put some cloth on the bottom, bird on the cloth, and you close the lid with around 10 holes poked on it. If it was very cold outside, you should put a jar of warm water next to the bird and cover the box with cloth leaving a crack for air (it is not good to heat up the bird with brain injuries, but this is a specific situation, when in shock their temperature goes down fast and the can die of hypothermia). AND you don't speak, don't touch the bird!!! - as this can cause further brain damage and death, that can occur even later, when bird flies away. What happens is that you want to treat the bird for shock and this is why you never ever touch the bird or keep it in in light when it is under that state. While in shock their liver and kidney stops working or get damaged, so even thou the bird eventually flies away, the damage done while petting and keeping the bird in light makes the damage to these organs irreversible. So after the bird is in the box (good to put the box in the shower or bathroom in general - keep the toilet bowl covered) you let it rest for at least an hour, do a fast check, if it is still dazed, wait another hour. Once the bird is OK, looks around, jumps in the box, reacts to you, you want to take it outside and see if it can fly away on its own from the box If it can't or if it doesn't come around in 3-4 hours, you go to a rescue center ASAP. PS why keep the box in the shower on bathroom - it is because the bird can fly out of the box, if this happens it is very important you have the bird in a small space without windows! Bird can easily gain velocity and hit the window again trying to escape, and this will be fatal. Always keep the box in small spaces with curtains on. If the bird manages to escape and flies around the room, get under the curtain, open the window, then open the curtain - keep the light off and window the only source of light and calmly move in a corner far from the bird. give it time, wait, let the bird calm down see where it is and get out trough the window.
This should have more likes and attention. Because I do agree. I am not hating on them they didn’t know and it is very cute, but they kept petting it and picking it up and following it. Which, even though I am no bird expert, I can imagine is very stressful.
Thank you for this education. That's what we all need to know. Think we're being kind when in actuality we are killing it !! How freaking HORRIBLE AND IGNORANT. BREAKS MY HEART.
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation of the procedure. I've putted another comment emediately after yours without knowing its content though. Some time ago I encontured a UA-cam channel that was dealing with the same issue, so I immediately recognized the situation. It is channel called 'Chick called Albert'. He was putting the bird into incubator to warm it up. I think that this bird did well, since we dont see that it has been losing conciousness and fly away rather quickly. I guess that she was only dezzled and OK afterwards. What do you think? I also had a rescue situatiin recently. I've found a bird on my terrace in the state of losing conciousness. She was on a sunny spot, but still it was cold as during winter time. I took her completely in between my palms, putting them in the cacune shape and warmed her up with the heat and my breath ( obviously as I didnt have an incubstor). She was unconcious for a minute or two and than started moving. I've took a hold of her for another few minutes, opened the window and released her. I must say that she didnt fly away imediately, but after stending on my palm for a minute too. As to the time description, it migh not be perfectly accurate as everything happened so fast. Can you tell me did I done well?
@@ninaradulovic1237 As soon as the bird regains enoug energy and there is no structural damage, it will fly away explosively. However the same bird can perch 10 m away puff up and die. It is very hard to know exactly what will happen and what stress did, this is why in rescue centers bird is under observation for 24h. In home situations we can not make the right environment for the bird to hold it safely and stress free for 24h so it is important that we don't make any mistakes during recovery. In minor hits to the glass and if the shocj state lasts very short even some handling will not harm the bird but if the bird is in severe shock it will. It also depends on the way contact is made. For example poking and pickung bird up is very stressful as it mimics what predators do. Holding the bird lightly and keepeing it away from your face but in your chest to warm it up, while not talking, is less stressful then not touching it but getting your face right up to the bird to look at it.
