PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 2 REVIEW - THE BEST PUMA RUNNING SHOE YET? - EDDBUD
An initial review of the new PUMA DEVIATE NITRO ELITE 2, a quite frankly superb shoe from PUMA with a higher stack and newly shaped carbon plate. One of PUMA's best running shoes to date.
A shoe sent to me by PUMA for review though they are not paying me to make this video and will not be viewing it before you get to see my thoughts.
Propulsive, cushioned and very versatile this one is up there in terms of score with the PRIMEX for me. Absolutely superb! 5k through to the marathon, this big cat has it all.
I shall be racing soon in this shoe, it ticks all the boxes.
I comment on the upper, midsole and outsole after my initial runs.

I tested out, invincible 2, Asics novablast 3 and gel nimbus-25... This Puma destroys them. It's so versatile and bouncy even when you walk ! Shaped to perfection and that Puma grip !
Nimbus goes in a way different category. The others you mention are just non-plated daily trainers. Can't even compare them to a carbon racer shoe as the deviate nitro elite 2 is

Wow, what a score - 98%!! Thanks for the review and the encouraging words. 🙏 Sounds like a great shoe. I have the Deviate Nitro 2 and love it, even though I have yet to run in it due to an injury. Can’t wait though, should be a few more weeks. This Deviate Nitro Elite 2 will stay on my radar too.
It’s the perfected version of the original. All the issues resolved.
Puma has blown me away the last few years. 2022s lineup was super solid, and I’m excited for 2023. Velocity and deviate nitro 2 have been superb! Deviate elite 2 next? I think so…

I really like the v1...but for training. Performance is in my opinion a step behind the Nikes I would use for racing. But this has a less aggressive ride that works better at slower paces as well.

Hi Edd. I started a running UA-cam channel a few months ago and appreciate that sentiment. It's a long way to the top if I want to rock and roll. I'll keep at it. I always enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work! I have the Puma Velocity Nitro 2, the Deviate Nitro 2 and just recently got the first version of the Deviate Elite. Those are all some excellent shoes from Puma. I'll be looking to pick up the Elite 2 at some point. It looks like the tongue in that shoe is very similar to the tongue in the DN2. Is it gusseted now as well as being padded? I'm a big guy for a distance runner, 6'4'' 225 pounds and even in my size, US 12, the Deviate Elite is so light. It's lighter than the Tukumi Sen 8 in my size. I need to get a few more runs in that shoe before my final verdict, but I'm really liking it so far and the DN2 is one of the best shoes that I've tried in a while. Puma is back in a big way!

Took mine out yesterday afternoon only 5k but I was very impressed with them hopefully I can do the London marathon in them once I’ve broken them in a bit
I bought these shoes after watching this video. They came in yesterday took them for a simple 5 mile run. Was at a 6:59 pace and they were perfect. I’ll try them on the long run on Friday but for a short run these are the shoes to beat.

If its 40mm stack in your size its going to be under that on the size 8. Gives Puma a few mm to play with for the version 3 😉

This is a beautiful beast!! I know it’s gained a bit of weight but they used the extra grams wisely. Great race and tempo shoe.

Good review Ed. As someone with wide feet, I always find Puma shoes very narrow,.even though I really like the feel of their shoes when I tried them in retail stores. Will try this one out.
Certainly some more width here.
I don't even have wide feet and I think Puma are narrow 😂 I've got the Deviate Nitro elite v1 and I'm about to put them up for sale with about 10 miles in them! Just can't get a decent lockdown in them and they squeeze my feet 🤦🏻♂️

Sounds like a better version of V1..the 1st was very comfortable and enjoying to run in for shorter runs but didn't have the forefoot cushioning to make it a faster ride..the traction was very good so I used it mostly on dirt cos the cushioning was not up to the task of pounding the pavement..
Would be nice if puma sold the shoe! It’s something I’ve been looking for so you are lucky to get it!

Just got the last Elite model for less than £80 delivered from Start Fitness. I love the Deviate Nitro 2. Hard to fault as a perfect winter daily type trainer that can also pick up the pace. Puma grip is unrivalled. Looking forward to seeing how the Elite goes and will wait for a good discount on the this new model.

Did the same. The only problem is the winter weather in Belgium, the upper breathes so well I have to use very thick winter socks to avoid frostbite and the ensuing socially unacceptable gangrene… Eagerly awaiting my Deviates V1 WTR!
Since your last 'bargain' video I ordered a pair of Deviate Nitro Elite at Start Fitness about three weeks ago, they've still not made it across the channel. Even slower than my half marathon tempo, i'll be able to compare them to the nitro elite 3 version around next christmas. :-)

Great Initial review, I have been loving my Puma rotation (using the original elite for interval / speed work) it just falls a little short when it comes to would I do 26.2 in it (compared to the endorphin pro 3) , perhaps the tweaks in the 2 might give me an alternative (a bit like I prefer the nitro2 over the speed 3) ? we shall see . Look forward to your long run review.

I have the Puma Deviate Nitro 2, and this shoe looks just like it. It's funny how the Nitro 2 and Nitro 2 Elite look the same, but feel different underfoot.
The nitro 2 is part EVA, this is all nitro pebax stuff.
@EDDBUD must be an amazing difference. That Nitro EVA on the Deviate 2 reminds me a lot of the foam on the (I'm going way back) Skechers Speed Elite.

I bought the 1's today for AUD 84 (GBP 48). I had the choice of half size up or half down, and went for down. I am thinking that it would be a good tempo shoe. I am hoping to run in it in the next month or so if I am back to running generally. The only non outlet puma store in Sydney.
Original worked in either true to size or half down, very impressive on discount too.

Apparently, the preproduction ink blotch models were smaller. The production colorways are apparently coming in TTS.
The original version had the forked plate. This one is not. There were a couple of videos from TRE of the rep showing the different plates.
BUT .... does it speak to you with forked tongue? 🙂

I forgot that I had an actual question for you Edd; have you tried any of the WTR versions of the Puma shoes? I was debating picking up the WTR version of the Deviate Nitro 2 to see me through the inclement British winter, but reviews are practically nonexistent.

@@EDDBUD nice, I do like the nitro foam although the Velocity Nitro 2 took a bit of getting used to.
There will be less ground feel as they are adding a bit more stack and new upper. Heavier more daily trainer type shoe (v2). Liberate Nitro 1 has too much ground feel for me on the road but it has been one of my favorite track workout shoes.

Shadow of the beast! I remember that. I use garmin epix 2 and 955 at the moment.
For sure buying this version 2 for next race. I used elite 1 for my virgin full marathon. Was absolutely perfect. Comparing weight with version elite 1?
A touch heavier in the v2. I find them both pretty light in all honesty.

Not tried the the SC Elite 3, but these are less squashy than the pro 3 but provide a more aggressive and nimble ride.

Excitement over Edd, Puma SA clearly not a subscriber to your UK channel!! Elite 2 now available but only in full sizes (my puma size is UK 9.5 ) but it gets more disappointing....RSP R 4500.00, for me (ex Glasgow boy) it's a non starter

Yes the elite is quite a bit lighter and a more race like upper. It’s well worth it

those Puma race shoes either look really normal, you wouldn't say the Deviate Elite is a super shoe just by looks. On the other hand, the Fast R and especially the Fast-Roid looks like one of the most extreme shoes ever created.
This one is a great race shoe. It’s worth checking out if the Vaporfly is not an option
Just got the Deviate Nitro 2. Fit is perfect. Deviate nitro elite V1 was very narrow for me. Is the Deviate Nitro Elite 2 same width (forefoot / midfoot) like the Deviate Nitro 2?

Are they faster? I find the Speeds to be quite fast but I don't like the lack of stability. Are these more stable?
Similar. But a more rigid feel due to the carbon plate. Better outsole here

I found V1 narrow and had heel slip.. Is V2 wider and better heel lock down? It does look like a wider forefoot?

How is the durability over time? I ordered a pair online and they arrived with a tear in the really thin upper. I have been offered an exchange of a refund and don't know if I should bother exchanging it it is going to be a recurring issue
Out the box? Had no issues at all. Mine look brand new at 100 miles
@@EDDBUD Yeah it was out the box, I ended up exchanging them and the new pair are perfect. Really comfortable and I love using them. Probably my favourite pair of shoes I own :)

Adios pro 2 more aggressive and less stable.
Need help! Been using Brooks Ghosts for years now as my everday shoe and it’s got me from couch to Marathon but trying to find something to help with running faster, do you think this or even the normal Deviate 2s would be suffice? Trying to keep my Ghosts for building distance but something else to compliment the tempo workouts and use on race days. Cheers!
The deviate nitro 2 is a good bet. Though not all that much lighter. Maybe examine the speed from Saucony.

Its sad that the best puma shoe yet is really far from its competitor in its price range. It feels nothing line the vaporfly 2 or the pro 3. It kinda felt like they went shy on putting more Midsole foam. Feels like a strip down version of what pebax vaporfly 2. Like if you cut more foam from the vaporfly, its basically the deviate elite 2
