We really need to stop calling this kind of thing 'backwards compatibility' because it isn't. There are bespoke PS5 games that you have to purchase on PS5 and can only play on PS5. It's a port. Backwards compatibility means a system is compatible with the same media from an older system, which PS5 is only truly backward compatible with PS4.
💯 percent. Thought the same thing. This is not backwards compatible. This is just a port. The problems from the previous games with the same problems are things ports have ALL THE TIME. Backwards compatible is me taking my ps2 disc and putting it in my ps5. That is backwards compatible with the ps2. Idk if devs know what backwards compatible means? 😂
Being able to flip the controls around is a solid feature I think. Its actually surprising just how many action games on the PS2 have the horizontal camera inverted and there is no way to change it, its weird because I somehow just don't really remember it being a common thing at all, but it's actually borderline the standard camera controls its so ubiquitous. Will definitely make some of those old games a lot more approachable for people who didn't necessarily grow up on them I think
They could give u free download maybe if u insert the disc, but simply being able to put ps1,2&3 discs in an expect them to play off the disc is over. Its a hardware thing
I'm SO GRATEFUL for sly release. I dont have my old consoles anymore and im sick of paying for Playstations streaming service to play the collection, can't wait for 2&3 🙏
I wouldn't get your hopes up with getting Hit and run as one of the emulated titles since that game is in licensing hell, but on a lighter note we could very well see the other 2 Sly games so at least you got something, I'm more so hoping for some old Sonic games to get added since theres still quite a few that are in desperate need of some sort of rerelease
This week Gamestop had a sale where you could get 4 games under $10 for $20, I ended up getting 3 PS4 games as well as a copy of Wild Arms 3 because there was nothing better for me to get. Until this year I've only owned the original PlayStation and didn't buy a PS4 but rather was given one by my manager after she got a PlayStation 5 for Christmas. This really made me want to get a PS2 even more to try it out, as so many great games are still stuck on that system.
I always wondered why the older titles used inverted controls by default. dont remember it bugging me back in the day but now it drives me a little crazy haha
To add to this, I believe this option is turned off by default on the PS4 versions. From what I understand, if you enable them on PS4 it causes performance issues and instability. It's not an issue on PS5, so they are enabled by default. The decision to include the enhancement option in the menu for both versions is likely for feature parity reasons.
@retrorebound8887 Turning enhancements off also improves performance. You use save states still though. Also Clone Wars is the only one which uprenders to 1440p. Sly Racoon and Tomb Raider Legends uprendering isn't working correctly.
1:43 when I heard Toy Story 2 now has trophy support, I went to go and buy it for my PS5 only to see it was free? I don’t pay for any of the PlayStation subscriptions, but I bought it digitally on the PS3 a few back, so I wonder if that’s why. Can anyone else let me know if it’s free for them?
I recommend everyone use the classic arcade filter, it makes the games look sooo much better. I own Clone Wars on both the series x and ps5 and the performance is poor on both.
When I bought The Clone Wars I was initially dissapointed there wasn't much Jedi combat but it slowly became one of my favorite Star Wars games of the era. Excellent unique combat for sure.
8:52 "Enhancements" is the option to rewind. It's off by default on PS4 (you can still turn it on) since having the rewind function available affects the emulation's framerate. About trophies, it's a big sell for me. It adds something that is not something I can easily get with emulators, which is achievements that are officially tied to my account. It also adds more to do with the game than just playing it.
It’s ridiculous that it took 30 years for rewind features to become available when games like Tekken, Virtua Fighter and especially Gran Turismo were displaying replay footage on the PS1/Saturn. All this time the framework was there and no one thought to use it for gameplay.

I’m so glad I got a series x instead of a ps5. REAL backwards compatibility and if you can’t find it on back compat, then you’ll be able to emulate it on dev mode. You can play any ps2 game on Xbox but not on PlayStation anymore, it’s sad
It’s good that Sony is finally adding any significant number of PS2 titles to their premium tier but I feel like there should be some kind of case for false marketing on their part up until this point. Many people paid for premium when Sony first introduced the new tier system expecting PS2 games they didn’t really get for years (and no, I don’t think PS4 remasters of PS2 games count as much as Sony probably think they do). I also don’t think passing the blame on supposedly foolish early adopters who trusted Sony to give them a robust service should give them a pass. They knew the capabilities and state of their PS2 emulation the entire time. Selling this service the way they have is incredibly scummy.
I actually wouldn’t mind the original version of Yakuza 2 being added, I always wanted to play that back in 2008, even before Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out but I never got the chance and now that Kiwami 2 is my favourite in the franchise, I really want to play the original version of Yakuza 2
PS2 Yakuza games have their own charm! There's actually a lot I prefer about them to Kiwami, especially with 2 removing some locations. I hope they add em too, everyone needs to experience the English dub for Y1 haha

There's so many PS2 games I missed and would like to play again. I honestly would not mind just getting them as they were when they released. That's what it would look like if I went and bought it on eBay anyway. The save state and rewind feature is a game changer. No more having to restart at your last save on your memory card. It's like Edge of Tomorrow and Ground Hog Day. Just keeping rewinding until you get it right. Why waste time making a game look slightly better when you could have used that time to release more games. I think the more games the better, at least with legacy titles.
It may be more likely that X-Men Legends appears on Game Pass first. It was developed by Raven Software and published by Activision, both of which are now owned by Xbox
Backward compatibility means that you can play your allready bought old collection of games with your new gen console. Matty should know better. People would rather pay for remakes/remasters than pay again for outdated looking games they already possibly own.

Due to the original PS2 game not supporting it. They should have added an option to stretch the screen for those who like to, though. They did for the PS1 classics after all.
Yeah like the other commentors have said this isn't backwards compatibility, this is merely streaming. And if I'm not mistaken most of the titles you can't even download that are worth a shit.
They are probably going with what publishers are willing to license out and add trophies to. This is not just a Sony initiative since it depends on the devs. It's unlike Xbox where they have no input from devs and pubs besides getting permission
rewinding and save states are a fantastic feature but they do destroy the original feel because it becomes just part of the game choice ie it effectively is a means to cheat. The argument used that you don't have to use them is a daft one because while certainly true, if the options had been there originally then people would have used them. The point is it destroys authenticity of the original intended experience. And that's fine if you don't care but plenty do so it's a shame you can't disable them as part of the initial save select so to lock their use, meaning you can't use them no matter. That way you truly don't have to use these but also can't if you so desire. Simple
I just wanna be able to play any old games I want . there is no reason that cant happen with todays technology. NFL Street, SSX Tricky , the ATV Offroad Fury games etc
LEGO Star Wars 2 on PSP was an interesting decision. But how about LEGO Star Wars 1 & 2 on PS2? Also, out of all of these announced games, I'm the most excited for Sly Cooper and Daxter. Would be great if we also saw the original Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter on PS2 as well, since the reboot of Ratchet & Clank is a completely different experience and the PS4 remasters of the Jak & Daxter series suck!
I'll be buying Sly 1 instantly because its just so much easier than having to set up my ps3 again and play the Sly Collection 😂 Here's to hoping that they port the rest of the franchise soon 🙌

WE NEED SOCOM
Man, I wish we could get Trophy Support for The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion! I’d 100% that game again
does it play ps2 discs?
It does not.
Not even ps3 or ps1
Is nfl street 2 or 3 on it? Anyone know???
This would all be cool if I can go ahead and put my ps1, 2, and 3 discs in my ps5. So annoying that we can’t do that
Yeah like the other commentors have said this isn't backwards compatibility, this is merely streaming. And if I'm not mistaken most of the titles you can't even download that are worth a shit.
They are probably going with what publishers are willing to license out and add trophies to. This is not just a Sony initiative since it depends on the devs. It's unlike Xbox where they have no input from devs and pubs besides getting permission
Really wish they would fix the limited input controls for the anolog stick. Only 8 directions really sucks and ruins these games.
July 4 here and they havent anounced anything ps2 for this month guess they already got tired of the project i hope im just impatient
I really want the original crisis core to be purchasable on ps4/ps5... I know they have the remake but I want the original too.
Not sure why they would charge you money for them when they are free for ps plus members? Unless i missed something
rewinding and save states are a fantastic feature but they do destroy the original feel because it becomes just part of the game choice ie it effectively is a means to cheat. Simple
Or ya'know just don't use them...
They should just hired the PCSX2 and make a version for PS5.
Hopefully they’ll release Sly2 and Sly3 too.
I'll be buying Sly 1 instantly because its just so much easier than having to set up my ps3 again and play the Sly Collection 😂 Here's to hoping that they port the rest of the franchise soon 🙌
Hi ya Matty, i think we should eventually stop calling this and what xbox does backwards compatibilty because it's not. They are emulations and for xbox, they are legitimate ports. They all through recertification which objectively makes them not "backwards compatible"
i have 730 ps2 games in dev mode on my xbox series s
@newjackgaming88 OK. Not exactly sure what that has to do with my comment.
