I work at a refuge and have had two Mustang mares. The bay roan had a permanent indention across her nose from a halter or muzzle, and our grulla had the halter almost embedded into her skin when we rescued them. It sickens me to see horses in such pitiful shape. Thank you for rescuing her and giving her unconditional love. My experience with our mares is that they are bossy, independent, assertive and everything is on their terms most of the time. However, if they have small offspring or are ailing, they like to be comforted and often times are more relaxed when around their 'herd members.
@@courtneypollaro8292 thank you so much for sharing!! That is definitely the vibe she is giving me… INDEPENDENT ❤️ Thank you for rescuing as well!!! It is difficult at times but so rewarding.
@@Gooday-2U-376 thank you so much 😊 that means more than you know. I feel so bad for them when it’s like this and try so hard to keep everything dry but at times it is just impossible.
Open vitamin E capsules and apply to her scabs. It will soften them and accelerates healing. Also promotes the hair coming in the same color as opposed to the scarring white. I've used for years on both show horses and show dogs. Works great on humans too. I suspect most of her behavior is a result of the horrible traumas she has had to endure. Her hatred of dogs is maybe because she was herded by them at one time. Take things moment by moment and let her come around on her own time. ❤
@BigJohnandfriends I've not ever used it. I for sure know you need to stick with actual Vitamin E. Lotions with Vitamin E have additives and will not work and could lead to irritation. Look for the biggest capsules. Forgot to tell you, with humans it will minimize scarring. Apply 5 minutes before suture removal on either human or animal and it will be a breeze. If you apply to Love she should stop itching rathe4 quickly.
Thank you! In the first comment you had said vitamin E so I guess I am a bit confused. I will order the one she needs but is it E or D? Thank you in advance - your time means a lot and I appreciate the advice.
Sunny is the same way when she's alone but Lady is fine, so I don't think it's necessarily a mare thing, it's probably just her personality and it might go away once she gets fully settled in and knows your not gonna take her away 🧡
As far as your mare question, I think feeling insecure when alone has more to do with where they are in the pecking order. For instance my mare is perfectly secure on her own even on long walks off the property. But she is a fairly dominant girl so maybe that's why?
I’m sure you’ve already answered this question but did your vet say you should add your other horse? Even though he is now going to be sick too? Even if he’s been vaccinated, I’m not sure if I would’ve risk that please educate me love the work you do❤
@@ambersemona9676 great question. Both of my boys have had strangles and have built up immunity to it. Horses will only get it once. I would absolutely quarantine her but she is extremely anxious without the boys and becomes frantic and I would say dangerous to herself.
Yeah, sadly someone left a halter on her. They said it had grown into her head but the vet thought maybe it got caught in something in she was injured pulling away…either way it had to be shaved around the spot. Smelled absolutely horrible.
@@TammySaj-c3b Hello, thank you for the input. Our vet was out just a few days ago and was here for a few hours. She did not say anything about a skin infection and I guess I am not sure what you are referring to. She does have issues where a halter has grown into her head and so the skin around it needed to be shaved. She is getting topical vitamin E oil for that. As for her coat it has been rainy here and she was out in the field so it looks almost wavy. There are no bald patches or itching at all on her coat so please do let me know if you are seeing something that I am not.

Watching from South Africa... I don't know much about horses but I followed Big John and just pray she'll be OK.. ❤❤
Wow!!!! That is really awesome. The horses here are in great care and are loved very much.
Thank you for helping these horses 🙏💕🐎

Thank you ❤ I wasn’t sure. She is okay if I am with her but just not being all alone.
He's her security blanket it's so sweet ❤
Kill pens are so horrible. These horses are so beautiful and smart, it’s such a crime to allow them to be in this condition.
It is absolutely heartbreaking some of the ones we see go thru there
I hope she is going to be o.k. 🙏💕🙏💕🙏 Blessings
I have personally found some mares more nervous than geldings, just my experience. The ones I've owned definitely spook alot more. ❤️🐎
Thank you ❤ I also realize she is an Arab so in general they are just a little more sensitive.
Hand lotion on shaved spots dry itchy. Small bugs on open skin GODBLESS

@@TammySaj-c3b the vet is confident that she will make a full recovery ♥️
Are the sore spots on her head from rubbing against bars or bites from other horses while at the feed lot?
The halter was grown to her head. Poor thing.

Get some kind of treatment for her coat, looks like she has a skin infection 😮😮😮😮😮theres stuff for that.
