Funny that you mention it! The betting pool presently has Dodger at a 2 to 1 odds on favorite. Before placing your bet it's important to understand the risk of this wager. Losers must buy 3 lipsticks and 1 calendar.
I love you’ve actually named him after a Charles Dickens’ character originally from Oliver Twist, the Artful Dodger, absolutely brilliant! Dodger was the leader of street children, so it’s really funny he’s already gathered a rooster to join him, it’ll be Penelope next!🤣🤣🤣 I am really looking forward to seeing his journey with him! X
I agree there is something going on with his mouth, maybe for awhile, but you’ll get it sorted and he’ll be the best boy afterwards. he’s lucky you got him.
Yeah, his chewing is not quite right. Like he is compensating for some level of possible pain. Dodger is a great name! He certainly performed well at the auction, and they said anyone could ride him, so that is a positive. He also looks like he is already bonding with you, the way he walked up to be with you at the end. He hasn't had a lot of consistency. He will enjoy his new home. What a great lady who cared enough about the horse to reach out and give you his story. She must have really loved him, it sounds like he really had her heart.
Dodger is a wonderful name…so fitting! Thanks for his history/story. We all come with a history and it shapes who we are and how we’ve learned to respond to life and its various circumstances! Love you, Shae, for being the person who you are…you give me solace and hope.
at the auction, he was not as confident and was uncertain....he will come into his full potential but will take a few weeks as his health and muscles rebuild to a good structure...as Quarters need plenty of backside for sprinting....therein he will BLOOM
Quarter Horses are wonderful. You made an excellent purchase. Eventually, you'll see muscles you never thought possible, and that is why many of the best-known racehorses are part of this breed. I wish you and Kile the best possible outcome with this noble steed.
From what I understand, Quarter horses originated from thoroughbreds that were sprinters. Some purebred thoroughbreds were originally registered as quarter horses as well when the breed started out. The name Quarter Horse comes from the fact that they were used for running a quarter mile race (sprint); feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, I learned this about 50+ years ago.
Great name and probably more “western” than you realize. Dodger or Dodge can also be referenced in the western TV series Gunsmoke which was set in Dodge City, Kansas. This is where the saying, “Get out of Dodge!” comes from. The main character in that show, Matt Dillon, rode a buckskin horse.
Horses are so spiritual. They know when they don’t have a home or a family, they need security. I have a feeling he will be nothing like his history. Today you both begin from scratch; I think Dodger will do great with you.
I'm so glad Dodger found his way to free spirit equestrian. Sounds like he needs the right person to set him up for success. He seems incredibly kind and grateful.
Your New horse got lucky when you got him. And Shae you have to admit that one auction horse you have are almost perfect and you were so lucky to have gotten Beauty. She is the most grounded, smart, and most down to earth seeming to be wiser than her age horse that I have ever seen. And pretty much perfect for how she was well taught. I love how she looks after the yearlings.❤
We had an Arabian that had a bunny friend. He would be so careful with it and the bunny would eat off 1/2 of a long carrot and Star on the other. It's neat to see different species interact.
That would have been so adorable. Horses are so amazing. I have a horse called Paco. . He's a Friesian X Percheron. Very big but very gentle. He is over 18hh . It's ok as I'm 6'6". But his best friend. Is our special needs car. ( She has dwarfism and was born with one leg that wasn't formed properly and was later removed because she was in alot of pain with I). She loves to sit on the horses backs. And Paco will go over to the fence where to mounting block and a old hedge is and he will wait for Caddie (the car) to climb up over the mounting block , the hedge and the to the top of the fence and then jump on his back. I'll g out looking for Caddie to feed her. And Paco will be waking around with Caddie just curled up on his back. He's got quite a wide strong back so Caddie can sit comfortably there all day if she wants too. I also have A 34 yr old Mule her name is Jackie. Her best friends are two Alpine Goats and my wife's Pit belly Pig Henry.
Dodger is beautiful! I love his caramel coloring and shiny coat. He's a lucky boy to have you and your husband as his new owners. He'll realize that soon, if he hasn't already...😊
Really, your new baby is fortunate to have you, Shae. None of it sounds like it is beyond your ability and you already had his number where some his tendencies are concerned. Love the name Dodger❤ It fits him. He is such a handsome boy.
After knowing his story, Dodger is a perfect name! I love Oliver and Company-Dodger’s song Why Should I Worry is one of my favourite Disney songs. I hope that Dodger (the horse!) will have the time of his life at FSE, living that care-free good life with an amazing pack (herd!) and an amazing human who he’ll know is worthy of his trust.
I absolutely LOVE his name. I’m thrilled that you got a backstory on him too. I think he’s going to fit in perfectly!! 💛💙 You should name the rooster Oliver. Haha
I'm grateful that this sweet boy landed at FSE. Get his dental, nourish and condition his body, and fill him up with love. He is going to blossom! Thank you so much, Shae, for all your wonderful videos, and for including him in the calendar package!
It’s going to be fine. He’s in the right place with the right person now. You will fall in love with him and he will fall in love with you. Although I think he’s already leaning into your loving, gentle spirit. He senses you are going to be his safe place. I sensed a feeling of sadness coming from him at the auction. I’m looking forward to watching this bond grow. It’s so exciting. Definitely think knowing his past is way better than not.
It sounds like most of the shenanigans were in his younger days. I have a really good feeling that he will be a great horse for you and your more advanced riders. He's a great age now. I love the name by the way. 🤩
How funny he has a rooster friend! Animals are just so wonderful. His backstory is very interesting, and I think it gives you the opportunity to tailor his training to his needs.
This pulled at my heart strings even more than the colour and basic shape of him, in that even his character is the same as my horse of 63 years ago. He taught me to ride really along with every book I could find on the subject. Sweet and gentle but very strong willed. What a great combination.❤
You know guys I’m not experienced with horses but I think that Dodger already feels so loved, and that any behavioural issues are likely to be minimalised because he has that bond with Shae .
I think it's wonderful that you know so much of Dodger's background now. I think he's going to feel much better after that dental appointment. His rooster buddy is AWESOME, LOL! ❤
I just watched Oliver and Company for the 1000th time last night with my daughter. It’s one of our favorite movies ever! Finding out the name today was ironic and amazing 😍 so happy for you and Dodger
Dodger is a great name for a QH and Dodge for short as well. To me it seems that he only had "behavioral issues" when he didn't have consistency and proper turn out. Obviously, the lessor enjoyed him and did give him the consistency that he really needed. I'm sure that he will thrive with your care. Congratulations on a good buy (in my opinion). He will be fun to train and when ready, he'll be a great step-up horse for your program. Yay!
I agree. I have learned something new. I never would have called him a buckskin. Before learning this, I would have considered him a bay. I like the name Dodger. My idea was Lightening McQueen because the white mark on his nose reminds me of lightening. But Dodger is a great name.
Seems like a really sweet boy and if he was at a college where they didn’t have very confident riders that would make any port horse go a little bit sour or drive them a little bit crazy with that. He wants a confident writer on him. who knows what they’re doing he doesn’t want someone who’s, not been trained the correct way to ride he’s an absolutely gorgeous boy. Great that you got some background information about him.
The Artful Dodger scored! I’m so happy he gets to live at FSE. An unsure life getting through to middle age. He now gets to have stability, great training and healthy food plus medical care. Just like Charles Dickens story of Oliver, the Dodger had unsure circumstances in his upbringing.
I think this is one of my favorite names you have given. The "artful" Dodger!! That's a great quarter horse name!! He is absolutely beautiful, love the color!
I look at all he has been through and finally landing in an auction, looking in need of tlc. How very fortunate for him that Shea was at the auction that day, won the bid and brought him home. 🙏🙏
I bought a 2, 5 year old pony, with a long list of issues, and the owner called him a problem horse". But he did great, when beeing aloud to be the youngster he was. Spending most of the time in the pasture, having friends to play with, and so on. Offcouse there where things to work with, as with most 2,5 year old horses. Later i found out he had been in 6 ore 7 homes before me, and that made me sad at first, but what a super champ, to manage that❤
*being, allowed, of course. I understand English may not be your first language or something else, but know how easy it is to be confused by words sounding alike in the English language.😊
I am excited that he landed with you.. consistency and routine especially at his age will quickly help him settle and I have no doubt in your retraining/tune up! Can't wait to see the dental visit! Congratulations to both of you!✨ He has such a warm eye and cute head 😍 Hahahaha to the 🐓😂 wanting to be a part of FSE😂
❤Once again congratulations!❤the rooster is a good thing since all chickens eat bugs and larvae perhaps you should have a flock that will help keep the horse flies down
DODGER is a perfect name for him! Omg Shae, he's so much like my first horse (Tex)! He was a gelded (non-registered) dun quarter horse (light color), with a snip on his nose and a star on his forehead. He was a chill horse except he was food aggressive if he felt the situation deemed necessary. He had a mind of his own when I would hack by myself (barn sour) but would listen to me if he saw no danger. But I listened to him as well. When trail riding with others, he always wanted to be in front. He'd been proud cut as he mounted a mare once and loved the mares, lol. I spent so much time with him, grooming, walking, grazing, riding, and loving on him. Others told me (including my vet) that duns have a bad rap as being naughty. But that was not the case with mine. I loved him so much! And he taught me so much. So many wonderful memories. Best of everything with your very handsome new boy! Looking forward to watching your journey with him!
Dodger is a great name, and he landed well. He will have lots of love and attention from you and Kyle. It may not be his forever home, but it will be the best place for him to grow and thrive until he is ready to move on. God bless!!
Dodger is a perfect name for him. He clearly is smitten with you. Thanks for the backstory love how you give all the information on the horses you have.❤
Love his name! It really fits him. I kinda like the new ones having to quarantine because it gives them time to get used to you first at their person. It seems then when you release them to the herd they come running to you when you show up. 🙃
Beautiful good assessment of him so gorgeous and great name "Dodger" aka the Dodgers won the world series last week LOL. Loved that Movie "Oliver and Company" ✨️✨️🕊🕊❤️❤️💥💥🐎🐎
Dodger is a western style name like Dodge city on Gunsmoke. Fitting for a AQHA & little Rooster Cogburn! You made a lovely choice Shae only thing left to do is adopt a gunslinger. Happy Trails yeehaw!❤🐎❤
I really like the name. His personality reminds me of my previous Appaloosa. He was very nice to ride if a person knew what they were doing and had confidence but if not, he would just do what he wanted. Never bucked or bolted... nothing like that. He would probably stand stiill or eat grass.
At the rescue i volunteer at they used to have guinnie hens. One had a bad leg and used to ride on all the horses backs. That way the other hens couldnt pick on him and he would eat the flies off the horses!!
Wow! Dodger has an interesting background. Wonderful that his former care-taker recognized him and you were able to talk. He's a gorgeous boy, and I'm especially looking forward to seeing his activities once he can join the herd. Best wishes to you all.
Dodger ❤ I love him - well now is when his life will change with stability and love he’ll be a star, yes watching him the way he chews when you were talking made me think what’s going on there, bless him 🐓
He has such a calm, friendly demeanor. When he was munching hay in the background while you were talking, he looked as content as if this had been his home for a long time already.
Thank you. You bring so much joy. I am a farmer in uk. Farming is bleak in uk. Our gov wants to kill the industry. So thank you. God Bless you and your family ❤
My thoughts and prayers to you, hang on in there if you possibly can - we need you. I hope the farmers who are able to, take a leaf out of the French farmers book on how to handle government idiocy. It takes a lot to really rile the Brits, but by God we are riled now. ❤ from a pensioner in Scotland.
Hang in there. A change of Govt. will change the farming landscape. Trust in the sensible English people that understand the value of farmers and home grown food. Regards, farmer in Oz👍
At 11:17 I hooted. No disrespect intended. He was standing behind you like listening to every word you said and thinking to himself, "this is gonna be interesting." He is gorgeous. He is mature. You are gorgeous. You are mature. Good match I'm thinking. He's in the right place at the right time.
Wow Shae, I didn’t see that one coming! 😅 The power of social media - I am glad you could connect and talk to the lady when he was with for seven years! He is such a beautiful boy, in the sun his coat has a gorgeous deep golden shine. I am excited to see how he develops with training, feed and health maintenance. I didn’t see his name coming at all! But like you said the description fits him so well. Welcome to Free Spirit, we are excited to see more of you! The rooster following him is so sweet 😊
Dodger is a great name. ALL OF YOUR HORSES ARE BEAUTIFUL, HANDSOME, &WIL BE TAKEN CARE OF. DODGER IS IN FOR AN AWESOME TIME. HE WILL BE EXCELLENT. ❤❤❤❤❤
When I saw the name "Oliver", I immediately thought of the "Artful Dodger" from "Oliver Twist", and I hoped it was the name you picked, I was so glad you did choose the name "Dodger"--I had always wished I could find a Doberman over the years I felt fit that nickname, so I'm thrilled that you chose it for your new QH. So, good on you and the Dodger, and think you're one special lady.
Interesting his history, and how lucky someone reached out to you that was able to provide it. 😊 I like the name .. it’s different, but I like different and unusual personally.. Lol sounds like you’ve got another sweet gelding to add to the herd.. best of luck .. and he has a rooster buddy.. ha ha.. so cool..😂
Welcome to FSE Dodger. You are handsome, smart and Oh so loved. You are known around the world because your momma has about 300,000 UA-cam subscribers. Shae and Kyle are going to take great care of you and soon you will join the herd, Penelope,Koa and 🐓 for fun and friendship. ❤🎉🐎 P.S. my 2025 FSE calendar is on the way. 👍😁

Dodger is a perfect name for him. He clearly is smitten with you. Thanks for the backstory love how you give all the information on the horses you have.❤
There was a reason you received this information. Now you can go forward with this information. I feel you will bring out the Best in him. 😊
Love his name! It really fits him. I kinda like the new ones having to quarantine because it gives them time to get used to you first at their person. It seems then when you release them to the herd they come running to you when you show up. 🙃
THAT IS A GORGEOUS NAME OMG!! He is so so sweet and kind. 17:17
I think he looks like a "Maverick" and such a beautiful sweetheart!
Beautiful good assessment of him so gorgeous and great name "Dodger" aka the Dodgers won the world series last week LOL. Loved that Movie "Oliver and Company" ✨️✨️🕊🕊❤️❤️💥💥🐎🐎
I've heard they keep roosters on the track as company for racing thoroughbreds! So cool!
I'm sure he's worthy of his new name and is gorgeous to boot! 😍💙🥰💙😘
With your awesome touch ups on this beautiful boy, he will be amazing, guaranteed ❤ Dodger is a perfect name!
YES!!! 😭 I loved Oliver and Company so much! Now I've got "Why Should I Worry?" stuck in my head!!
You might have an entire new UA-cam channel dedicated to Dodger and his new buddy. Rooster needs a name. That is just adorable.🐓🐎
I love his name and Dodger is an amazing Disney character! I can’t wait to see him meet the herd.
I’m not usually a fan of buckskins but his coloring is absolutely stunning!!! I can’t believe I actually like him as much as Naveen and Ariel!!!
Nothing wrong with wanting a "dead broke" horse to ride. More people should want that quality in their horses.
Respectful Dominance = Confidence
Love Dodger!
Everything happens for a reason and all the horses that come to you are meant to be with you 😊❤
Perfect name! Crazy history! So thankful that beautiful boy ended up at FSE!❤
Dodger ❤ I love him - well now is when his life will change with stability and love he’ll be a star, yes watching him the way he chews when you were talking made me think what’s going on there, bless him 🐓
Rooster knows hanging out with the horse gets me good stuff to eat.
I love the name! Oliver and Company is a childhood favorite! ❤ Congrats! He is beautiful.
He has such a calm, friendly demeanor. When he was munching hay in the background while you were talking, he looked as content as if this had been his home for a long time already.
Oh, Shae, what an absolutely wonderful and perfect name for this gorgeous boy!!!
Dodger is PERFECT!!!!! What a good, solid name!!!!!
He will do wonders under your love snd training 🩵🩵👏👏👏🩵🩵👏👏👏
Thank you. You bring so much joy. I am a farmer in uk. Farming is bleak in uk. Our gov wants to kill the industry. So thank you. God Bless you and your family ❤
Same in the USA, not as bad as UK. The Amish are in danger.
Here too, all big commercial places. Ugh. Appreciating you from the US.
@@karentriebel1217Good, the Amish are mostly cruel people, following a cruel religion.
Dodger it is ! Fits him well Shae. He'll fill out beautifully I'm sure. Hes very mellow, sweet no drama kinda guy. 🐎🫶🍂
We have to name the Rooster!!
I just did. Rooster Cogburn after John Wayne in "True Grit"
Yes, does Doger in the movie have a friend? That might be cool!
Sounds like a "what you give is what you get" sort of horse. If you are confident and kind, that is what he will give you.
He certainly acted calm and comfortable when he was being bid-on.
Dodger is a great name. ALL OF YOUR HORSES ARE BEAUTIFUL, HANDSOME, &WIL BE TAKEN CARE OF. DODGER IS IN FOR AN AWESOME TIME. HE WILL BE EXCELLENT. ❤❤❤❤❤
I love quarter horses, theyare always calm and good natured.
