Saw Karl with The Waterboys several times and for me, when he left they were never quite as good. Got to see him with World Party some time in the 90's and they were one of the best live bands I have seen. So sad he has passed away.
I feel you my friend I feel like England's biggest world party fan like you had the privilege to chat with Karl just such a witty lovely guy I feel like Karl and Mike Scott were the Lennon and Mc Cartney of are era
yeah totally and in the same way when their bends split the fans kinda split - i went with mike scott who eventually kinda lost his way - but i cried on the day i heard karl had passed he was a genius x
I had the exact same experience in Seattle. Got there early. Karl steps out of a bus, alone. I get pictures and autograph... Then he lights up a ciggy, and we bull shit for 15 minutes, my chest thumping. Next time he came to Seattle, I purposely got there early, again, different venue, and like before, greeted him, and was invited in to watch sound check, with the full band. Only ones in there, except for venue staff. He started off playing Steppenwolves 'The Pusher'... not even part of the show. A very nice, and humble, and witty, and talented man. I feel lucky to have met him. Very sad when he passed.❤
Barry, I love, love, love your adoration for KW! I first heard Ship of Fools on Radio 1 when I was 17, I'm now 54! I was blown away! I got tickets to see World Party at the Astoria in London and took my best mate Jen along with me. We were crazy dudes and jumped into the orchestra pit at the Astoria! Karl loved our brazen show of love and acknowledged it! What a man! We love KW! xx
What a lovely tribute to Karl! This one hit me hard, too! I'm almost 71, and I did not discover World Party until around 2007 or 8, after utube came out. I knew "Ship of Fools", which I always loved, but I was kinda checked out of music for personal reasons during the 80s and even most of the 90s. But once I found him, I became a huge fan over several months. I've listened to his entire discograpy, and tried to watch, listen to and read anything I could ever find with or about him! The more I listened and learned, the more I loved him!!! I wish more people knew about him, too! I'm going to miss him!🥺
So glad I stumbled across this video. I've no idea why but World Party past me by until pretty recently. I remember the weekend before the Covid lockdowns started in March 2020 hearing Is it Like Today on the radio in the car. I'd obviously heard it before but never realised just how great a track it was until that car journey for some reason. After that I did a deep dive into their music and throughout lockdown listened to pretty much nothing else; I can't believe it took me so long to get into them. I love Is it Like Today but other notable favourites are Give it all Away, Way Down Now, Ship of Fools, All Come True...I could go on all night. Such a great band and a terrible loss.
Nice to see this tribute Barry. I am a huge WP fan too, saw WP about 5 times and meet Karl 1:1 several times. Such a lovely man, such a musical genius. I hope the family consider releasing some material posthumously, as Dhani did with George Harrison's Brainwashed. I'm sure Karl was beavering away over the last 10 years and there are many pearls to hear, that will continue his incredible legacy. I love all his songs, but Higher Love, No More Crying and Lost in Infinity are some current favourites!
@@davecostello560 agree 100% about hope for “new” music down the road. Such a special man and his music is a massive part of my life story!! Thanks so much for watching!!!
Thank you for sharing this. First heard about World Party through an interview with Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran who mentioned Karl’s group as new music he was listening to. Unfortunately, became immersed too little, too late. Criminally underrated in the music business.
I was lucky that Goodbye Jumbo was my introduction to World Party. I’m a multi-instrumentalist/composer so I really loved the vibe. ‘Put The Message In The Box’ was a defining song for me.
I’m very envious that you got to chat with Karl, but also glad that you shared the experience with us. I count myself very lucky to have seen World Party twice in the 90s, and they’re still some of the best shows I’ve seen.
Yes! I’m a huge fan! Way down now played on our rotation when I worked at Banana Republic , loved the song and found out who the band was…. Been a fan ever since!
My oler sister introduced me to World Party. I fell in love with it immediately! I've listened to every song he ever did, and never heard one i haven't loved!! He will be missed ❤❤ my personal favorite is When the rainbow comes. Whenever im feeling down, or a bit melancholy, i put it on and it always puts me in a happy and optimistic mood. 😊
Thank you for doing this. Karl was an amazing talent, like you, I have a lot of material and the same poster but not autographed. Watching him doing Hollywood in the 2 meter sessions is almost like being there.
I love him!

I'm 100% with you. Karl was a master musician. His work with the WaterBoys was special.
Thank you so much for watching !!! I wish more people knew about him!!

Also cried. Only other time I’ve cried is when Prince died. Thank y’all for watching!! Appreciate it!!
LONG LIVE WORLD PARTY!!

Saw The Waterboys when Karl was a member they were fantastic. Gone far to soon RIP ❤
LOVE Karl Wallinger/Waterboys/World Party. This one hurts😢
Great synopsis....may he rest in peace...outstanding talent...

Karl ruled. From the Waterboys to World Party. Loved his s#!t. RIP
Great tribute
Thanks for geeking out, with all the details regarding World Party. Very good stuff. Appreciated this, and loved World Party myself.

Feel EXACTLY that same way about Rainbow. Actually “used” it earlier this week to ground me! THANK YOU so much for watching!
@@BarrysMusicCellar and the slide guitar on that album, OMG!!!😁

He talked so purely. he talked to me, never met him, ....but he talked to me. Think i'll keep listening still.
“Sweet Soul Dream” and “Sunshine” are gold.
Ship of Fools runs in the background of my mind. But Curse of the Mummy's Tomb is in the foreground constantly.
I love Prince and World Party
