Told my dad this recently when he dug his beatles singles out to sell and he was shocked at what they were worth...Simply,the beatles were the biggest band in the world because they sold A LOT of records.
I dont know if it is of any real value but my dad owns a Japanese text version of The Beatles White Album, the album cover and lp labels have Japanese text instead of English. It is in mint condition too. I'm no expert (far from it) but it doesn't look like a counterfeit or bootleg to me.
This channel has become a soothing and friendly space to spend time every week. I just checked, and I’ve logged 107 Beatles records in my collection, so I enjoy watching these videos, of course....sometimes more than a few times!
I watched this video with interest, then it came to the chapter on the Please, Please Me album. I'd purchased a Please Please Me album from a Sydney Australia second hand store in the mid sixties. Being a low paid apprentice at the time I grabbed this cheap way of obtaining this album. It was a UK release and I paid no attention until I saw this video. I dug it out from my long forgotten vinyl collection and low and below I have a first pressing. Thank you.

You are so right about the misconception that many collectors have that original Beatles vinyl is worth a fortune. One only needs to peruse ebay and see countless records in trashed quality asking for astronomical prices. I personally saw listings for albums such as Magical Mystery Tour in poor condition for $1000. Don't people realize that millions of copies were pressed and unless it's in excellent to mint condition it isn't worth more than $10?
The most outrageous one I've seen was in a charity shop in Wells, Somerset. It was a black and yellow Parlophone copy of the Please Please Me album, no sleeve (not even a paper inner sleeve) and the vinyl looked like someone had been at at with a wire wool scouring pad. Literally unplayable. Asking price? £350! They'd obviously read somewhere that stereo copies were worth a lot of money but missed the bit about the label needing to be Black and Gold. I was gonna have a word but thought what's the point - let them find out the hard way.
I won a Signed copy of Rubber Soul from Bill Harry who started a magazine called Idols. Somewhere there's a picture of me in Vol 2 with my prize. Unfortunately I had my wallet stolen shortly after and so sold it. It was the 90's and so a record shop bought it for about £500. It was nice to hold an album signed by all four, so you win some, lose some. Love watching the series and keep up the great work.

First pressing stereo gold label copies of "Please Please Me" always sell for a lot of money on eBay. And there are *always* multiple copies on eBay any time I check (I'm speaking of originals and not the reissues). It seems like this is one of the the most common valuable records ever.
When I was just getting into The Beatles as a kid, one of my aunts gave me her copy of the sgt pepper lp. It’s one of those 1969 one box pressings which she claimed she had signed by Lennon outside saville row while she was in London on holiday. It does look rather genuine alright, but since both have passed away now, who’s to tell... anyhoo, I’m hanging on to it more as a keepsake to my aunt than to Lennon. Thanks for the video! Another great video! My rarest Beatles discs are my stereo PPM with the "extra 33 1/3", and my copy of one of the USA albums (Beatles 65 I think) which plays Fleetwood Mac's "Bare Trees" instead of The Beatles on side 2. I do have all four side A/B combinations of Dick James/Northern Songs black/gold labels though, took me a while to find them!
At one point I owned an NM -1 -2 stereo A Hard Day's Night with the cutting error on "any time at all" and also an original mono pressing of Sgt. Pepper that had a stereo matrix and played in stereo on Side 1.. having accidentally encountered both of them! I ended up parting with both but I'm still kicking myself over it.. although they weren't the most valuable things out there, they were still great to own

The brazilian first pressing of the White Album has a misprint on side 2 (Rockl Racoon, Lennon McCartney credited for Don't Pass Me By) and a misspressing on side 4 (Revolution 1 keeps speeding up, among with other tracks). It's quite valuable worldwide. It's not true mono, but a stereo fold-down.
Just found a mint copy of PPM with that black and gold label in my collection...sadly it is the 2012 digitally sourced reissue ;) Sadly my 60's pressings are all a bit battered looking, but hey they still sound fab. Great video as always Andrew - so informative!

These demo UK 45’s of Beatles songs are quite rare compared to the UK demo 45’s of every Motown singles that were on Tamla Motown with a white label with a big red A on it (same with a green label with white A), because both Parlophone and Tamla Motown are part of EMI. Tamla Motown did pretty well overseas where they exported the US releases and brought it to the UK. Every artists like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes and others were on Tamla Motown.
A fantastic video! Greetings from Greece! I am a lifelong Beatles fan in my late 40s and this was one of the most informative videos about the Fab Four. All the knowledge that I had gained in my years of record collecting is presented here condensed, in a clarified and explicit manner! Unfortunately, I do not own any of such rarities. Yet, it really doesn't matter, since I am here mainly for the knowledge. I do own some Beatles' original vinyl copies, such as a Jobette-labelled early 1963 mono copy of the "With the Beatles" LP in VG/VG+ condition (which, as you rightfully mentioned, was not pricey at all). Btw, a record dealer in Athens stumbled upon the McArtney-labelled promo copy of "Love Me Do" in a local record fair a few years ago. He bought it FOR PENNIES just because "it seemed different" and he was totally jaw-dropped when he discovered its rarity and value (the story is 100% true, I know the dealer personally). One question, if I may: is there a way for me to add Greek subtitles on this specific video (with your permission, of course). It would be a valuable source of information for other Beatles fans here who are not at a fluent level in their English. In any case, it was a pleasure watching this one! My auntie in Birkenhead gave me a copy of Abbey Road with the offset Apple logo a couple of years ago. She found it at a boot sale and luckily for me the original owner (called Susan according to the name on the label) took very good care of it. I have many, many versions of this album, including all the usual suspects, but this one sounds the best. The reason I love it though is the thought that the music on it didn't even exist a few weeks before it was pressed into that particular piece of plastic that would live forever.
You knocked it out of the park again, great video. Some stuff there that most of us can only dream of owning. The lowest white albums I own is 391 and 403, I'm lucky enough to have the export issues, something new with sold in the UK, Beatles second with McCartney misprint and Beatles V1 with sold in the UK.
Hi Andrew, can you share some light on four Beatles CD's I bought in an indoor market over 30 years ago. The titles are: The Beatles- BRS73159, More Beatles- BRS73160, Rock and Roll Music- BRS73161, and The Beatles Vol. 4- BRS73162. All the discs have no country of origin on them, but do say... 'All rights of the producer and of the owner of the work reproduced reserved. Unauthorised copying, hiring, lending,public performance and broadcasting of this record prohibited.' Of course,the scarcest item here in the states could be a sleeve for the Canadian import of All My Loving(72144).The sleeve is identical to the Can't Buy Me Love sleeve(text font included)and includes the words "Of Canada"under the Capitol logo.Few have surfaced.
Mention of cover abberations.. I have PCS black and gold stereo.. the front cover says MONO but the unlaminated back board is PCS Stereo ! I found that at Banbury market stall about 10 years ago

hi Andrew, it's Henry, great video again, still so much to find, however aside from a LMD demo which may or may not have been signed by John & the usual Black & Golds, some demos ( only 4 of them inc LMD ) & Exports ( still missing HJ, YS & a YB AR as mine is a 1 box ) i do have a #92 WA. however as you probably know you NEVER see a low numbered WA in decent shape so i am lucky that aside from discolouration & a tiny stain it is in lovely order, & one day, when i am gone you may be able to sell them on to the decent home they will deserve !!
@@Parlogram well when you are next back in the UK mate, you'll need a pad & pen & need to know where the bodies are all buried, as with all collections 90% are 5 -10 quid records, but then there is that 10% ... lol !!
When I got rid of my vinyl collection in 1992 and went to CD I just couldn't part with my Beatle albums. I don't have them all but the ones I have I'm keeping for sentimental reasons. The American version of "Help!" was the first album I ever bought. I think I paid $2.49 for it. Unfortunately that album got melted.

The sticker at 4:09 says “Factory Sample Not For Sale” were also being used on all EMI releases including the Tamla Motown 45’s. 5:11 is a test pressing record which is pretty rare at the time, sadly none of the test pressings were on Tamla Motown and Stateside, because of the US test pressings are on Motown, not in the UK. Tamla Motown was the label that put out a lot of the original Motown albums from the US and imported to the UK.
What about solo stuff. I have the original Concert for Bangladesh box set with booklet inside and the Imagine album with the poster inside both in mint condition.
I was once told by a Los Angeles Radio Engineer that “acetate” demo discs had a playing surface that was about as good as recycled ASPHALT! If you were ever a Radio DJ, this will mean something to you: You could cue up an acetate a grand total of ONCE before the lead-in groove would develop a case of “cue-burn”! If you were never a DJ, cue-burn is an audible scratchy noise. Depending on how long the acetate was allowed to play when cueing up the record, the cue-burn can continue into the song!
Would be good to see one about the Apple x Delayney and Bonnie / George Harrison story and history etc ... I read that one of the Ace Records guys sold a copy of this rarity for a fair sum ... anyway, please keep up the good work I am really enjoying the Beatles content here 😊

Were the B sides the regular issue for the discs? Or were there any that were different? Were there any valuable variations in demonstration discs based on irregular B sides?
Do you have any recommendations on how to spot a genuine autograph? I've always wanted one from John, since he's my idol and I was born much too late to personally get his autograph, but I don't want to risk putting thousands of dollars to a fake.
Scored a original mono white album at a record fair last November for only $45. #0109718. It didn’t come with the four photographs and There’s a skip on three separate songs but I’m sure there are people out there that specialize in helping with that.

I have never heard "A Hard day's Night/things we said today" was double "A" side this is new to me, if this were true there we'd have it in "1 collection" (weird album which excludes "please please me") i had never heard if John Lennon Even actually liked "things we said today"
I had the original pressing first issue of please please me before they changed to the black and yellow label the number was pmc I think unfortunately the record got broken it was the 1962 label with old classic writing
Unrelated but- did this channel ever have a video of The Sundown Playboys Saturday Nite Special? I remember years ago a channel had the 78 of that song posted and if my (horribly poor) memory serves me right it was parlogram, is that correct?
A friend of mine belonged to the Grattan catalogue stereo record club in 1963. He said he got his gold stereo Please Please Me in the same catalogue order as With The Beatles on the day the latter album was released. I assume the catalogue bought a certain amount of stock which it was still sending out from its warehouse long after the shop stock had switched labels.
Thanks for sharing that information. I'd heard something about the Grattan catalogue too. It would be great to find out more information or if anyone has a catalogue from that year.
As always, a great video. I have Australian copies of the singles "Please Please Me", "From Me To You" and "She Loves You" on the purple Parlophone label. EMI Australia switched to the black & silver Parlophone label in September, 1963. Any idea what these purple label 45s would be worth?
Would depend, of course, on their condition and which label variations you have. Both Please Please Me and From Me To You have two label variations and She Loves You has three.
I remember musician Peter Hammill reminiscing about buying early Beatles albums pre-release by mail order, to build up the attention paid to the album on release. I think he was referring to 'Please Please Me' and 'With the Beatles' in particular. Given the rare early gold Parlophone label of 'Please Please Me' have you ever seen the packaging that they would have been sent through the post in?
@@Parlogram Thank you for that, here is another enquiry that probably carries it's own dead end, but... For people to buy albums mail order in 1963 there must have been adverts in certain magazines to tell buyers the album was coming, and persuade them to buy the album in advance mail order, so in which publications might EMI have advertised?
A lot of record dealers that either don't know much or are greedy think that every record that says The Beatles on it is worth a lot of money. They usually ask astronomical prices for very common records or ones in bad condition. They should just do their homework before trying to sell things they don't know much about.
My Dad was in the forces during the Sixties stationed in various places across the world. He once told me that while he was, I think, in the Middle East, he picked up a copy of "Something New" from a NAAFI shop. When he played it, however, as he put it,. "There were no vocals!" so... he returned it. For a long time, we assumed it was a bad pressing and could have been valuable for that reason. I now think It's more likely that he had a stereo copy with tracks in fake stereo that he was playing on a mono player. That would make it less valuable... or would it? From your video, if it was one of these special imports for the British forces, it could have been worth more than ten times what he paid for it! Oh, well... I guess we'll never know. My Auntie (not directly) had a cloth that was signed by the Beatles in the early sixties along with a selection of other stars signatures where she embroidered over the signatures. Their was even a newspaper cutting showing them doing it. She's possibly still alive in her eighties (moved to the US). I wonder if that would be worth anything much?

These demo UK 45’s of Beatles songs are quite rare compared to the UK demo 45’s of every Motown singles that were on Tamla Motown with a white label with a big red A on it (same with a green label with white A), because both Parlophone and Tamla Motown are part of EMI. Tamla Motown did pretty well overseas where they exported the US releases and brought it to the UK. Every artists like Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes and others were on Tamla Motown.
A fantastic video! Greetings from Greece! I am a lifelong Beatles fan in my late 40s and this was one of the most informative videos about the Fab Four. All the knowledge that I had gained in my years of record collecting is presented here condensed, in a clarified and explicit manner! Unfortunately, I do not own any of such rarities. Yet, it really doesn't matter, since I am here mainly for the knowledge. I do own some Beatles' original vinyl copies, such as a Jobette-labelled early 1963 mono copy of the "With the Beatles" LP in VG/VG+ condition (which, as you rightfully mentioned, was not pricey at all).
Btw, a record dealer in Athens stumbled upon the McArtney-labelled promo copy of "Love Me Do" in a local record fair a few years ago. He bought it FOR PENNIES just because "it seemed different" and he was totally jaw-dropped when he discovered its rarity and value (the story is 100% true, I know the dealer personally).
One question, if I may: is there a way for me to add Greek subtitles on this specific video (with your permission, of course). It would be a valuable source of information for other Beatles fans here who are not at a fluent level in their English.

My auntie in Birkenhead gave me a copy of Abbey Road with the offset Apple logo a couple of years ago. She found it at a boot sale and luckily for me the original owner (called Susan according to the name on the label) took very good care of it. I have many, many versions of this album, including all the usual suspects, but this one sounds the best. The reason I love it though is the thought that the music on it didn't even exist a few weeks before it was pressed into that particular piece of plastic that would live forever.
You knocked it out of the park again, great video. Some stuff there that most of us can only dream of owning.
The lowest white albums I own is 391 and 403, I'm lucky enough to have the export issues, something new with sold in the UK, Beatles second with McCartney misprint and Beatles V1 with sold in the UK.

Hi Andrew, can you share some light on four Beatles CD's I bought in an indoor market over 30 years ago. The titles are: The Beatles- BRS73159, More Beatles- BRS73160, Rock and Roll Music- BRS73161, and The Beatles Vol. 4- BRS73162.
All the discs have no country of origin on them, but do say... 'All rights of the producer and of the owner of the work reproduced reserved. Unauthorised copying, hiring, lending,public performance and broadcasting of this record prohibited.'
I hope you can clarify these for me.

Of course,the scarcest item here in the states could be a sleeve for the Canadian import of All My Loving(72144).The sleeve is identical to the Can't Buy Me Love sleeve(text font included)and includes the words "Of Canada"under the Capitol logo.Few have surfaced.

Mention of cover abberations.. I have PCS black and gold stereo.. the front cover says MONO but the unlaminated back board is PCS Stereo ! I found that at Banbury market stall about 10 years ago

hi Andrew, it's Henry, great video again, still so much to find, however aside from a LMD demo which may or may not have been signed by John & the usual Black & Golds, some demos ( only 4 of them inc LMD ) & Exports ( still missing HJ, YS & a YB AR as mine is a 1 box ) i do have a #92 WA. however as you probably know you NEVER see a low numbered WA in decent shape so i am lucky that aside from discolouration & a tiny stain it is in lovely order, & one day, when i am gone you may be able to sell them on to the decent home they will deserve !!

@@Parlogram well when you are next back in the UK mate, you'll need a pad & pen & need to know where the bodies are all buried, as with all collections 90% are 5 -10 quid records, but then there is that 10% ... lol !!
Enjoyed the part on the lacquers, i did not know EMI made their own.
When I got rid of my vinyl collection in 1992 and went to CD I just couldn't part with my Beatle albums. I don't have them all but the ones I have I'm keeping for sentimental reasons. The American version of "Help!"
was the first album I ever bought. I think I paid $2.49 for it. Unfortunately that album got melted.
Re the A label demos...I remember these being valued in Record Collector in the early 80's at around £80....

The sticker at 4:09 says “Factory Sample Not For Sale” were also being used on all EMI releases including the Tamla Motown 45’s.
5:11 is a test pressing record which is pretty rare at the time, sadly none of the test pressings were on Tamla Motown and Stateside, because of the US test pressings are on Motown, not in the UK. Tamla Motown was the label that put out a lot of the original Motown albums from the US and imported to the UK.
What about solo stuff. I have the original Concert for Bangladesh box set with booklet inside and the Imagine album with the poster inside both in mint condition.

I was once told by a Los Angeles Radio Engineer that “acetate” demo discs had a playing surface that was about as good as recycled ASPHALT! If you were ever a Radio DJ, this will mean something to you: You could cue up an acetate a grand total of ONCE before the lead-in groove would develop a case of “cue-burn”! If you were never a DJ, cue-burn is an audible scratchy noise. Depending on how long the acetate was allowed to play when cueing up the record, the cue-burn can continue into the song!
Would be good to see one about the Apple x Delayney and Bonnie / George Harrison story and history etc ... I read that one of the Ace Records guys sold a copy of this rarity for a fair sum ... anyway, please keep up the good work I am really enjoying the Beatles content here 😊

Thank you for another good video, I do like the calm with which they are presented. With The Beatles' demonstration singles what did the B sides look like? Were the B sides the regular issue for the discs? Or were there any that were different? Were there any valuable variations in demonstration discs based on irregular B sides?
The B sides of the demo were of the same design but without the red 'A'. There were no song variations.
Do you have any recommendations on how to spot a genuine autograph? I've always wanted one from John, since he's my idol and I was born much too late to personally get his autograph, but I don't want to risk putting thousands of dollars to a fake.
Scored a original mono white album at a record fair last November for only $45. #0109718. It didn’t come with the four photographs and There’s a skip on three separate songs but I’m sure there are people out there that specialize in helping with that.

I have never heard "A Hard day's Night/things we said today" was double "A" side this is new to me, if this were true there we'd have it in "1 collection" (weird album which excludes "please please me") i had never heard if John Lennon Even actually liked "things we said today"
I had the original pressing first issue of please please me before they changed to the black and yellow label the number was pmc I think unfortunately the record got broken it was the 1962 label with old classic writing
Unrelated but- did this channel ever have a video of The Sundown Playboys Saturday Nite Special? I remember years ago a channel had the 78 of that song posted and if my (horribly poor) memory serves me right it was parlogram, is that correct?

I haven't heard all of them but when I have, you'll know.
A friend of mine belonged to the Grattan catalogue stereo record club in 1963. He said he got his gold stereo Please Please Me in the same catalogue order as With The Beatles on the day the latter album was released. I assume the catalogue bought a certain amount of stock which it was still sending out from its warehouse long after the shop stock had switched labels.

As always, a great video. I have Australian copies of the singles "Please Please Me", "From Me To You" and "She Loves You" on the purple Parlophone label. EMI Australia switched to the black & silver Parlophone label in September, 1963. Any idea what these purple label 45s would be worth?
Would depend, of course, on their condition and which label variations you have. Both Please Please Me and From Me To You have two label variations and She Loves You has three.

I remember musician Peter Hammill reminiscing about buying early Beatles albums pre-release by mail order, to build up the attention paid to the album on release. I think he was referring to 'Please Please Me' and 'With the Beatles' in particular. Given the rare early gold Parlophone label of 'Please Please Me' have you ever seen the packaging that they would have been sent through the post in?

For people to buy albums mail order in 1963 there must have been adverts in certain magazines to tell buyers the album was coming, and persuade them to buy the album in advance mail order, so in which publications might EMI have advertised?

A lot of record dealers that either don't know much or are greedy think that every record that says The Beatles on it is worth a lot of money. They usually ask astronomical prices for very common records or ones in bad condition. They should just do their homework before trying to sell things they don't know much about.
I have a factory sample of Sgt. Pepper’s PCS 7027
My Dad was in the forces during the Sixties stationed in various places across the world. He once told me that while he was, I think, in the Middle East, he picked up a copy of "Something New" from a NAAFI shop. When he played it, however, as he put it,. "There were no vocals!" so... he returned it. For a long time, we assumed it was a bad pressing and could have been valuable for that reason. I now think It's more likely that he had a stereo copy with tracks in fake stereo that he was playing on a mono player. That would make it less valuable... or would it? From your video, if it was one of these special imports for the British forces, it could have been worth more than ten times what he paid for it! Oh, well... I guess we'll never know. My Auntie (not directly) had a cloth that was signed by the Beatles in the early sixties along with a selection of other stars signatures where she embroidered over the signatures. Their was even a newspaper cutting showing them doing it. She's possibly still alive in her eighties (moved to the US). I wonder if that would be worth anything much?
