Oh boy, I haven't tuned this low on video for ages! I'm really happy to see how well my Dingwall held it together even with standard strings 😍 Let me know if you'd like to hear more low-tuned songs and subscribe to be notified when those come out! 💪
Fucking insane tone and performance 👏🏻 I feel that F# is the lowest tuning for bass where the perceived fundamental note can still be heard and felt with good eqing/ compression and saturation. Anything lower yields diminishing returns imo. Anyway your dingy dished it out so nicely. Hope to own one some day, they literally all sound so good.
Dude my band is playing in drop f sharp and I'm having such a hard time finding good tone. What are you using for effects and EQ here if you dont mind me asking? Are you playing out of daw or a cab here? Awesome vid
@metalcamedy21 These tones were made with my pedalboard, I have another video where I go through everything on the board! Basically it's the Darkglass B7K and precise pre-EQing before hitting the distortion stage
F'in A, man.... Good Lord that Dingwall is a BEAST with the DG clone pedal. Fantastic playthrough! I will own a Dingwall 1 day. For now, I'll have to keep on rocking my EHB-1505MS.
Dang a 130 gauge working out in F# is incredible. I think im using a 135 for G# but youre inspiring me to try a little lower. Excellent playing!!! Isnane tone too
Hahah I used to use the same strings in D#0 as well 😂 It was a tad too floppy though, so I've now got a .155 custom set for those tunings and F# too when needed. This Dingwall really lets me get away with a lot!
@Paajanenae dude I think that extra neck length on the low end is the secret. Watching Nolly play in A on a 4 string was enough to convince me lol. That's so sick about the thicker gauge. I really wanna try one now. Beautiful color you have too! Edit: holy shit double D on a bass is insane lmao
@@J1Nflo I don't think it's just the extra length, their instruments just sing like no other bass I've ever tried 😄If you want a sample of that low D# tuning, just check out my take on Indistinct - Heart Prince
More 🔥🔥🔥 my guy. You're making it really hard for me to not want to add a D-Roc to the fleet with all these vids. I just bought a Warwick Corvette last month, so I feel like I need to chill before I pick up another bass haha
Yeah I stack both! The PD7 cleans up the Pork&Pickle and the Pork&Pickle has limited headroom so it squeezes the signal and introduces a nice mid-centric overdrive 👍
If the bass was a Dingwall NG2 model does it still need the extra clarity with PD7 for pre gain after P&P ? Actually I have an active bartolini Mk6C dual soapbars stacked with a bartolini NTMB 3 band eq with mid freq boost switch. Does it have the same response to the tone If I boost high mids with frequency and set mid&trebs *3 o clock from the guitar's PA to balance the P&P to get this specific kind of tone or PD7 kinda pedal is a must for both active and passive guitar with this kind of effect chain? I dig your kind of vibe to the genre and as a fan, I would like to learn those teachings very much like a padawan . Sorry to bother 😅
@@yalngucgoturen7413 Everything I've used benefits from having the PD7 in chain. A boost at 3kHz will give you some of the benefits it has to the tone.
Thanks for responding to my last comment about the fret buzz thing. I have one more question. With everything you said that you do (keeping the neck straight, raising action, etc) do you think you could tune as low as drop E and get that same clean results using the standard strings?
I know I’m a little late but most bands that tune that low (loathe for example) actually just keep their basses in standard tuning. So the bass and the guitar are tuned the same
Do you get a lot of fret buzz when tuned that low? I’m modifying my D-roc to fit .150 gauge to (hopefully) play in drop F and E. Hoping that I don’t have to go any thicker
Not really! I always make sure to setup the neck almost straight with a bit of relief and then raise the action until I get rid of frets choking the sustain. Since the strings are so loose, having a higher action doesn't make them any worse to play.
Hey brother so I just ordered a Droc 5 and I’m curious would I have to modify it to be able to play in drop E and F tunings? I imagine I would need thicker strings than what they come with. Thanks
I played this with the same strings the bass comes from the factory 🤝 but your mileage may vary. If you want to use thicker strings, you'll need to file the nut to accomodate those
Not really, no. But since my tone is largely based on the Darkglass B7K and usually a 410 or a 810 cabinet sim, something like those should work fine. Don't worry about the low tuning, it's not really going to make a big difference

the way you nail it everytime , being fast af with these covers, and have one of the best tones. Once again, great job!
