    I've tore down and rebuilt several OLD trimmers myself, there's a lot of satisfaction when you first fire it up after all that hard work. I've never painted a cylinder (jug) however. I've sand blasted and polished them but never painted.

    Echo really makes good stuff, especially for the money. I had one of these back in the eighties. It was built by Kioritz for Toro. It ran for twenty-five years and just got so ratty looking (still ran) that I gave it away. Still own a lot of Echo gear though. Thoughtfully designed and elegantly executed. Glad they went back to the orange color too.

      mixing Depend on brand name of 2t oil you can see on The Bottle . some kind 1L Oil with 25L gasoline , some 1L with 30L gasoline and some 1L with 50L gasoline . if you not sure you can note that , there is smoke while working . if you engine made in China of copy engine you should mix much more than original engine .

    Hello there EK, great video!! enjoyable and informative. I am wondering if you have any specs on a kioritz srm 501de? I acquired one in good condition today for a mere five dollars(nzd). The 501 is very similar to yours maybe a few years younger, very interested in knowing the cc's of engine etc... all in all a good example of a old trimmer built far more sturdy than those of today. Have a good day.

  • @rickr2029
    @rickr2029 2 роки тому

    Questions.
    1. Did you add a new piston ring and hone the cylinder?
    2. Where besides Ebay are good places to find these old Echo trimmers? I know this sounds like an obvious question but it really is not. Because in the U.S. in the early 80's, and ALL time before, the homeowner took care of their own property and mowed, edged the lawn etc. So, the "lawn service" by a company was not popular yet. For homeowner use, this type of Echo unit was way more than a homeowner would later begin with using. Honestly, when the homeowners began using this new concept of a trimmer, weedeater, the popular (massively popular) was the Weedeater brand Green and Yellow unit. Sooo, back to the original question, it is perplexing to figure who the early units were targeted for to be able to seek one out.
    3 Did you ever consider going back with original color?
    Thanks and anyone else want to chime in on the Trimmer evolution, I would love to hear their take on it.

    Only problem is as a retired mechanic that never had a large shop all my life and a lot of tools although I do have tools at this point in life I won't be getting anything major but if you're doing this on UA-cam and you're not burdened by debt or marriage or divorce or legal matters or child support and you have access to a garage or shop and you are making money all you have to do is buy the smallest sand blast cabinet and use light materials on the highest pressure with a medium size compressor and you don't have to wire wheel anything or wire brush anything and it comes out a lot better and a few things you can ask to dip to get the rust off so I would think that at this point somebody would be doing that?
