Their late father came directly from shandong. To me, best type of noodle is la mian..

Glodok/Kota is a universe in itself. Many Jakartans - esp the middle class - are not interested to explore it. Dunno now, but back then, my goodness. The night clubs, the old Chinese houses, the not halal Chinese foods, the Chinese herbal shop and its shinshe. And, the old institution such as Cafe Batavia.

I bet the food was goood, especially those dumplings. I've liked most of the local dishes I've had during my trip. Enjoyed your content by the way, keep them coming!

You guys came so close to the authentic non halal traditional glodok chinese food. Petak Enam was built on the old building called Chandra where the legendary food court was located, the good news is that after they renovated and turn the Chandra building into Petak Enam, they keep the old food court at the back of the building. You can have the old glodok tio ciu cooking there. If you have the chance next time ask around for the old food court (chandra lama) at the back of petak enam. If you like chinese food this would be the spot.

@@InvestedAdventure below are some typical tio ciu menu - gurame tahu tausi fresh water fish cooked with tauco (fermented bean) - kodok goreng mentega frog legs fried in butter if you don't eat frogs you can substitute it with chicken same flavour different texture - ngohiong/hekeng goreng can't describe it but good stuff google it - kaylan cah sapi beef sauted with green veg - lindung cah fumak eel fried and stir fried with fumak/a type of green veg - babi kecap - babi hong if available - babi masak pete

Menu that you can find in Glodok but hard to get anywhere is kue cempedak goreng. There is also pie oh (turtle meat). Kuotie also great actually, the authentic kuotie is in middle of nowhere in glodok, but they now open at petak 6

The real authentic Chinese food is only at Singkawang Kalimantan barat. Alternatif way to taste Singkawang Chinese food at Jakarta is at Jembatan 5, Jembatan besi, or tanah sereal, not to far from Glodok.
